Chapter 13

Valerie Will

~•~

Throughout the event, my eyes kept drifting to my phone.

Celeste had promised to give me what I wanted before the end of the day. But she still hadn’t reached out to me. I was nervous but I pretended like everything was okay.

I felt bad because Patrick seemed uncomfortable being in the same room with Jamal. Even if it wasn’t true, he thought I cheated on him with Jamal.

I had no idea what was going through his head.

But I knew that he wasn’t thrilled about Jamal’s presence.

It didn’t come as a surprise when he excused himself from the theatre. He claimed he was going to the bathroom but I knew he just wanted space from me and Jamal.

After a few minutes had passed and he didn’t come back, I didn’t bother asking him where he was. Not because Eli didn’t care, but because I didn’t want to put him in an awkward position.

I decided to wait until the movie was over before texting him.

Patrick made it clear to me that he was only attending the movie premier

Chapter 111Patrick Banks ~•~“What are you doing here? Have you come to complete your job?” My mother snapped as soon as she saw me walk into Benjamin’s room. “Mom! Lower your voice. People can hear you.” I said, my voice barely audible. She turned to Valerie. “Why did you come with him?” She asked, her voice cracking slightly. “Just stay outside and wait for me,” I told Valerie when I saw how uncomfortable she was. After she left, I turned to my mother. “Can you calm down? I didn’t do anything to him.” She rolled her eyes. “Yeah, right.” She took a few steps closer to Benjamin and placed her hand around his body, as though she was checking his temperature. “What did the doctor say happened to him? What is going on?” I asked, my voice strained and uneven. She let out a deep exhale. “Why are you pretending like you don’t know what is happening?” She asked, glaring at me. “I don’t know what you two were fighting about, but there were other ways to resolve it instead of trying to

Chapter 110Patrick Banks ~•~“Patrick, did you do it?” Valerie’s voice echoed through the quiet room as she walked through the door. I sat upright on the bed. “What are you talking about?” I asked, my voice slightly groggy. Ever since I came back home, I have been sleeping. She closed the door behind her and stared at me. “You can’t hide anything from me. We are in this together.” She said as she took a few steps closer to me. “Did you do it?” I honestly had no idea what she was talking about. “Do what? What did I do?” My patience was wearing thin and I didn’t like the way she looked at me, like I had killed someone or something. She paused for a while, dragging a hand down her face. Her expression became soft as she sat on the edge of the bed. “Benjamin…he…he got into an accident. And the doctors aren’t sure that he’s going to make it.” Her voice was cracked with emotion. “What?” I gasped in shock, trying to process what I had just heard. “He what? Accident? How?” I asked, m

Chapter 109Valerie Will ~•~“But it feels like we are drifting apart from each other.” Celeste’s voice cracked slightly through the phone. “I honestly thought that things had gotten better between us.” I stared at the half-empty coffee on my desk, tracing my thumb around the rim. I couldn’t get any sleep the previous night because I was restless due to Benjamin’s threat. “We haven’t seen each other in forever.” She continued. “It feels like you’re shutting me out.” I let out a slow breath, rubbing my temple. “I’m sorry,” I murmured. Celeste was the least of my problems at the moment. I knew she was just speaking out of guilt, even if she had no idea that I knew about what she did. I could tell from her voice alone that guilt was eating her up. I knew I said I wasn’t going to confront her, but I couldn’t just act like everything was okay between us. Even though I tried to act normal, I ended up finding myself keeping my distance from her. We barely talked on the phone and I alw

Chapter 108Patrick Banks ~•~The truth was that I didn’t even want Benjamin to get any position in my company. I didn’t want to work with him either. I just wanted him gone. He wasn’t even grateful that Valerie was ready to negotiate with him, he straight up gave me an ultimatum and ended the call. Benjamin was definitely out of his mind. I grabbed my phone from the kitchen counter and stormed out of the kitchen. Valerie called my name but I didn’t stop to answer. “I’ll take care of it. Don’t worry about anything.” I said loud enough for her to hear as I continued walking. When I passed the living room, I saw Liam still sitting on the couch. A part of me wanted to stop and ask for his forgiveness. But I decided to give him a little more space. I had something else to take care of. I had no idea how I was going to handle the Benjamin situation, but I knew that I would do anything to protect myself and my family. Just as I stepped into my room and closed the door, my phone star

Chapter 107Valerie Will~•~I had to promise Liam that I would take him over to Patrick’s mother’s house by myself before he stopped crying. He was so upset that Patrick deceived him and left the house without him. I understood why Patrick didn’t want to take him there, but he should have just been honest with him. After Liam finally stopped crying, we stayed in the living room and cuddled while we watched television. As he held me, I couldn’t help but wonder…If this is how heartbroken Liam was after one lie from his father, what would happen when he found out the whole truth? I closed my eyes briefly, letting out a deep sigh. I just hoped that Patrick’s visit to his mother’s house was fruitful. Patrick needed to find a way to take care of Benjamin. To convince him to leave New York. While I was still spiraling in my thoughts, the front door creaked open. I turned around and saw Patrick walking into the living room. “Hey,” I muttered. “Hey.” From Patrick’s expression, I coul

Chapter 106Patrick Banks ~•~The room fell into a thick choking silence. Then my mother’s eyes darted between me and Benjamin. “What did he just say?” She asked slowly, her voice barely above a whisper. “Nothing,” I replied. “I said he’s a murderer!” Benjamin repeated, his eyes fixed on me. “You think he’s your perfect innocent son, but I know about everything that he has done.” My fists curled into a ball. “You better watch your mouth,” I warned him. “Or what?” Benjamin asked with a scoff. My mother stood up abruptly, her eyes filled with fear. “What is going on? Who did you kill, Patrick?” She demanded, her voice cracking. “I didn’t kill anybody, I’m not a murderer!” I snapped, my voice defensive. “Benjamin has no idea what he is talking about.” She turned to Benjamin. “Who did your brother kill?” Tears had already started falling from her eyes. Why did Benjamin have to say something like that in front of our mother? He let out a humorless laugh. “Ask Valerie. Or ask him y
