Bella's POV

I guess it was about time I stopped building castles in the air and faced reality. Alex was certainly not going to give me a chance. Not now, not ever. And since Linda was back in his arms, Alex and his family were going to dump me like I never existed.

I sniffed, rubbing the tears off my eyes, my face etched with a bold resolve. I refuse to be dumped. I was going to be the one to dump the Hayes this time around. Going to give them a taste of their own medicine.

A weak smile that didn't reach the corner of my eyes spread across my face and metamorphosed into a light giggle. They were stunned that I dared laugh, making a fool of them while they were yet speaking and they glared at me.

Having secured their rapt attention wrapped around my fingers, I patted my lips slightly with elegance allowing the savory taste of the meat engulf me while I let out a satisfactory "mmmh" nodding my head in agreement.

Sophia scoffed, as I took a sip of my wine, "Look at you. Are you not ashamed of yourself?" She yelled, rising to her feet in fury. "You're not just disrespectful to us all, but you've also lost your manners for my mother?" She swung her hands in the air, perhaps to dash a slap across my face.

A strange energy and morale engulfed me and I made for her hands, catching it along the way before it got to my face. "Don't you dare lay your filthy hands on me". I warned, rising to my feet as well. She gasped in shock and so did everyone. I expelled her hands, but not after torturing them under my firm grip until she winced in pain, as a reminder that I was the senior one.

Her husband, Mr Claud, my fellow riffraff to the Hayes family, Who was always at their beck and call, serving them and cleaning the dust under their feet like a nonentity, stood up and wrapped Sophia in a warm embrace in an attempt to comfort her. But she rebuffed in disgust, slumping the innocent man forcefully to his seat.

"You weakling. Didn't you see she almost damaged my skin and called me filthy? Is that all you can do? Can't you act her like a man!?" She sneered, towering her frame over Mr Claud.

He shakily stood to his feet to speak like the moron he was, but a sharp voice cut through the air. "Sit your poor ass down!" Mrs Caroline ordered. "This is not your part to handle". She said but Mr Claud hesitated. Within a fleeting second, my eyes caught sight of Linda and Mr Claud sharing an understanding gaze, Linda's eyes pleading with him to remain calm and obey. He eventually did and sat down.

Mrs. Caroline made a face at Sophia that she, too, was included. Sophia grudgingly sat down, after shaking her lean frame like a worm in a salty environment and rolling her eyes at me like a roller coaster, giving out a false promise to tear me into shreds if given the chance. But the truth is, Sophia was the weakling, whose strength lay only in her tongue.

Mrs Caroline focused every ounce of her being as she addressed me, "I can see you've grown wings. Who gave you the right to talk to my daughter in such a manner? Because we gave you the privilege to sit at table with us?" She queried, using her hands to access my frame with disdain.

It felt like a chord struck my heart, and my face gloomed from its painful impact. Three years. Three solid years and I'm not even regarded as a Hayes. So my being here, regardless of my marriage to her son, was just a privilege?

This marriage was as good as over by the way. It was time to tell her what she needed to hear. With my head raised high, "I am not-"

"Enough!"

My gaze fell on Alex as I recognized the caution was from him. He finally got to look at me and say something for the first time all through the night.

For a split second, his voice calmed my nerves, and my expression softened because he was the asshole whose intervention I'd craved so much.

He is the asshole I love. But not anymore. To hell with you too, Alex!

My face lit up with a sarcastic smile, "Finally decided to say something, huh?"

"Bella-"

I held my hands up, a sign to shush him and he obeyed indeliberately. The shock was what silenced him and caged his words. He arched a brow at my audacity.

I grabbed my bag and strapped it to my arms, "Thanks for dinner, Hayes. Let's never catch up some other time." And with that, I walked out on them under their scrutinizing gazes.

My mind was made up. I was going to complete what I'd started. I got home, and amidst the greeting from our housekeepers, I strode up the stairs straight to the room.

Within a few minutes, my fingers fumbled over my clothes as I packed them haphazardly into my box. I was done. Three years gone and wasted, invested in someone that never appreciated me. A tear dropped on my hands and that was when I knew I had been sobbing all along.

I deserved better. People who would treat my heart with care, not like some piece of shit. The old Bella died right there at dinner tonight. It was time to pursue a new version of me where all that mattered was my happiness.

My mind plunged into a thought, and I paused for a second. Talking about my happiness, it was time to take back what I'd sold out to the Hayes all these years for their good, blinded by my desire to be loved and accepted.

It is mine after all, my sweat, my sleepless nights. And I don't care the damage it's going to cause them; I'm taking it back. Everything is leaving this damn marriage with me.

I couldn't help the smirk that rose to my face as I rested my butt on the dressing table, folding my hands neatly underneath my bust. My voice was filled with contempt while I reveried their future suffering, "Oh Alex just wait. You are so going to pay for every dine you've caused me in this hell of a marriage. You and your proud Peacocks!"

  • Divorce? Just Not Yet Darling!   Dragos!

Alex's POV My attention wasn't on the chandeliers. Or the orchestra. Or her excitement. But somewhere in the crowd. My eyes continued moving slowly through the sea of faces as we made for that table. Searching. Waiting. Because I knew Dragos was here tonight. He should be.Near the curved balcony staircase at the end of the hall, ten more steps would've taken us there, to those broad shoulders I sighted standing at the foot of the stairs, palmed dark hair brushed back in careful precision, light skin tone, and a still posture - the exact one I've been accustomed to. My heartbeat froze.Because even from that distance, even after all these years, there was something unmistakably familiar about that silhouette. My fingers tightened around Bella's hand. That looked exactly like Dragos. My eyes had already decided before my mind could catch up. Was I to take Bella to him now?The thought barely settled before his movement broke the illusion. I discovered he had a phone in his hand and h

  • Divorce? Just Not Yet Darling!   I'm I really doing this?

Alex's POV The lights flashing from every corner were blinding, the bustling murmurs of crowds filled the air, cameras capturing elite personalities, apparel whispering in cool shrills graciously on the floor, beautiful ladies draped delicately on the arms of their gentlemen as they alighted their vehicles. This was more like an opening night for the Le Bal des Étoiles charity gala. It was a place where kings met, whether to show off or for an alliance. A search for dominance was the word for them tonight. Everyone dressed to impress, to outshine, to be relevant, swaying their bodies elegantly to be caught in the spotlight of the numerous cameras that clicked without exhaustion. This was the kind of meeting everyone especially the old-money European families, art patrons, diplomats, discreet billionaires, and 'power couples' looked forward to.It was well known for prestigious charity fundraising, philanthropic awards, private auctions of art, rare jewelry, and heritage pieces. • Divorce? Just Not Yet Darling!   Just Let Me Do This

Alex's POV Our ride arrived soonest - a sleek black Rolls-Royce stood by the curb, its polished body reflecting the golden streetlights as the driver stepped out to open the door. I guided Bella gently into the passenger seat before taking mine, beside her. This year, the Le Bal des Étoiles charity gala was scheduled to take place at the magnificent Palais Garnier Opera House, located in the heart of Paris. So we were in for quite a journey. There was this heavy silence between us, thick with unspoken words. What transpired back at the hotel had somehow seeped in, like the invisible third guest that sat uninvited. I cleared my throat awkwardly a dozen times, working on my bow tie to loosen it. I could feel the tension rising inside me, and the lump in my throat I had to exhale heavily like a burdened horse, to press down. It wasn't the awkward kind of tension. No! It was the kind that came with my heart beating wildly against my chest, like a caged lion.Heat beads gradually pulsed

  • Divorce? Just Not Yet Darling!   A Kiss?

Alex's POV I worked on my cufflinks, every now and then wondering why the shower was still on. Until it stopped abruptly, making me shoot my head instantly to the bathroom door itching to applaud Bella. She finally decided she had scrubbed enough."Alex, you're still there?," I heard her call out from inside the bathroom and I stiffened mid-motion. Oh right! She needed space to get dressed so we could head out."Yeah!", I responded sharply, making sure my voice was high enough for her to hear, as I tackled the last one. "Heading out now so you can get dressed". The door creaked open before I could move and I stood spellbound, refusing to move. The only thing that rang out in my head was the thought of Bella striding out of the bathroom naked, probably with only her panties on, thinking I had left the room. I swallowed a large lump that had formed in my throat and refused to lift my eyes to avoid a mistake she wouldn't want me to make. "I was about heading out", I said stiffly, hea

  • Divorce? Just Not Yet Darling!   Baby!

Claud's POVI dragged my feet to the glass door under her gaze, still thinking of any excuse to give. But there was none. I dialed Lord Lee's number as soon as I got into the car, panicking before I even heard the answer he was going to give. With my elbow slanting from the armrest, I struck my head with my index finger listening to the automated ringer. If they were smart enough and did hide their location, then that would be good. But if they didn't, that would be bad. Too bad.He picked. "Sir".I hesitated, rubbing vigorously against my temples. "Lee... the broadcast today. I want to hear that you cleaned up your trail and cut off every signal that could lead to you".There was a brief pause on the other end before he said calmly. "Yes, sir. Every loose end was covered. Our location can't be trailed. I made sure of that". "Hidden well... completely?" I pressed, lowering my voice."Completely, sir."I lifted my brows at once, relief sagging my shoulders. "Oh. Really?", I asked wit

  • Divorce? Just Not Yet Darling!   We Gave Them A Fucking Trail

Claud's POV I couldn't even hide the confusion that came with those words. "She wants Linda released soon", she added, trying to answer the unasked questions in my mind. "They are trying to track the location of those fucking bastards"."They what?!" I screamed, eyes widening in alarm and Sophia dropped her wipes to stare at me with more confusion than I had on my face. I couldn't believe my ears. "I know, right?", she drawled, resuming. Her stupidity was valuable to me in times like this when she couldn't use common sense to read the writing on the wall. She felt unbothered, unmoved.... unwilling to ask why I reacted like that. And that was good. Better. Because I was even too fussed, to think of any excuse that would do. "I thought they were intelligent rogues too," she continued, wiping the skin under her eye delicately. "But it turns out we are smarter than they are"."Who suggested this?" I queried, hastily. I was eager to know, even though somehow I knew. Of course, it won't
