Sophia shrugged dismissively. “You don't have to say anything if you don't want to.”

“I'm heading to bed. Goodnight,” she said, making her way towards the stairs, but Alexander stopped her.

“Don't go yet, I'm not hiding anything. I can tell you whatever you want to know.”

She paused and looked back at him, unsure whether he meant it.

“You know you don't have to. I was just mentioning it casually.”

“She's the young girl who saved me many years ago. I only owe her a debt of gratitude. Nothing more.” He said reassuring her.

Sophia felt a lump in her throat. Owing a debt of gratitude to a woman? She felt very uncomfortable with that thought.

“So how are you going to repay her?” she asked folding her arms.

The question stunned him. He hadn't thought about it yet. He had promised himself that he would marry her if she wasn't married when they reunited. But meeting Sophia changed everything. So he wasn't sure how to r

She really wanted to stay in his embrace but she had to go to work and she knew the delicate balance they had to maintain. She was determined to build her career without relying on her husband, and that's why their relationship had to be kept a secret especially now that he was their chairman. They had a quick breakfast together and as they prepared to leave for the day, Alexander insisted on driving her to work. “I'll only agree on one condition,” she said, wiping her mouth with a napkin.“What condition?” he asked, raising his eyebrows quizzically.“Well, you have to drop me a few blocks from the Allure building. I don't want anyone to see us together.”“Okay.”  He nodded chuckling at her insistence but complied, understanding her desire to maintain her independence at Allure Fashion. When they neared the drop-off point, Alexander

What competition?” he asked, his interest piqued.“There will be an international design competition coming soon. It'll be held in our country, probably in Averia,” she revealed, her eyes glistening with anticipation. She continued filling him in on the process and the competition within the company. That same evening, Catherine was grocery shopping. As she left the supermarket, she accidentally bumped into someone. She had many shopping bags and some were now on the floor. “Oh, I'm sorry.” She said, struggling to pick up the scattered items. “It's okay, I'll help you.” A young man interrupted her and quickly gathered the shopping bags, picking up all the items. Catherine was touched. She had been in a hurry and hadn't seen the man, making her the one at fault. Yet, instead of getting upset, he graciously volunteered to help. “Thank you so much, young man. That's very kind of you.” She thanked him sincerely. “No problem at all. You can call me Larry.” The man replied respectfully. “Oh, thank you, Larry, you must've been raised well.” “Do you need a ride? I see you've shopped quite a lot.” Larry offered. “Oh, no need. My car is nearby. I was feeling bored at home so I stepped out today.”

Larry looked at her for a moment, considering the offer. He had to play along, though the thought of hurting Sophia made him sick. “Let me think about it,” he said after a pause. “But I'm not making any promises. I don't want to hurt Sophia.” Jessica let out a cold laugh. “You're sweet, Larry. But don't worry, this won't hurt her. Just think about it and let me know. I'll be waiting for your call.” With that, she stood up, smoothing her dress and giving him one last look before sauntering out of the bar, her heels clicking against the polished floor. Larry watched her go, his mind racing. He needed to figure out a way to navigate this without blowing his cover and, more importantly, without letting Sophia get caught in the crossfire. *** Over the next few days, Sophia didn’t hear from Larry. But she didn't have time to dwell on it as she was busy with work. She preferred it that way anyway She and her team were almost done with their draft, just a few more touches

“I’ve been close enough to Sophia to know what's going on in Allure Fashion.”“What about it?” Jessica asked, leaning closer.“There’s an international competition in three months, and the selection for who’s going to represent Allure happens in the next two days. Sophia is almost guaranteed to win.”Jessica narrowed her eyes. “Are you sure about it?”“I’ve been keeping tabs on the company. From what I've gathered, she's the frontrunner. The panel loves her leadership, and her team is strong. If she's chosen she'll represent Allure on a global stage.”Jessica smirked. “That's exactly when we strike.”Larry nodded. “Exactly. If we sabotage her during the competition, Allure’s reputation will take a serious hit. And who will Alexander blame for that? He’ll see her as incompetent, and it’ll drive a wedge between them.”Jessica leaned back, deep in thought. “Sabotaging her sounds easy, but how do we make sure it doesn’t

Well, yes something came up with my other business. I have to leave the city for a while.” He said, watching her reaction. “Are you okay? Over the next few days, Sophia was busy finalizing her drafts for the competition. Alexander got busy with his work too, and surprisingly, he hadn't heard from Jessica since that night. He had done a lot in cornering Gerald, making it hard for him to make a move. On this day, he was standing by the window of his office, his eyes cast over the view of Eldridge City. He could see almost three-quarters of the city from his office. But his mind was consumed with other matters. The city view didn’t catch his attention at all. A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. “Come in,” he said, still looking outside. Mark, his able assistant, walked in with an iPad in hand. “Boss, the investigation about Larry is done and the information has been compiled. Should we send it to him?” Mark asked, scrolling through the data. Alexander turned around, tucking his hands in his pants pockets. “There’s no rush. Wait for the right time,” he said, walking back to his desk. “Alright, boss,” Ma

Once inside, Nina saw an elegant looking young woman, probably in her twenties, adjusting her makeup in the washroom mirror. She looked like the kind of woman who never checks price tags because everything about her screamed wealthy. She was dressed in a silky white blouse tucked neatly into caramel-colored trousers that hugged her just right. Her heels were sharp, shiny, and expensive. Even her designer handbag, resting by the sink, looked like it had its own security detail. Her makeup was impossible to miss; long lashes, bold red lips, heavy eyeliner, and skin so smooth it looked airbrushed. Her black hair hung straight and sleek down her back, parted perfectly in the middle. She didn’t need to say anything. Just standing there, fixing her lipstick in the mirror, she looked like someone who was used to getting her way.***Meanwhile, in the tallest building in Eldridge City, the Evans Tower, Alexander sat at his desk as he listened to Mark deliver the financial reports. After Mark

“What is it?” He turned around, eyeing her vigilantly.“Can you promise me that no one will ever find out about this, please? Not even Sophia,” she requested.Alexander paused, overwhelmed with guilt. If he had been more careful, none of this would have happened.“Okay, you have my word,” he promised and left the room.As the door clicked shut, Jessica’s trembling lips slowly curled into a cunning smile.“And the game has just begun. Sophia... I hope you’re ready, darling,” she whispered, wiping away her fake tears.By the time Alexander settled, it was already past 1 AM. He checked his phone and was shocked to find several missed calls from Sophia.“Oh no, I forgot to update her!” he mumbled, his muscles tensing as he raked a hand through his hair.It was too late to call her now! With a heavy sigh, he sent her a text:‘Hi honey, I hope you’re doing well. Back in Sadrova restaurant, Alexander emerged from the bathroom after several knocks on the door.He wrapped a towel around his waist and opened the door.Tim hurried in with his bag. He looked just like any other thirty-year-old guy who happened to be on duty. His white doctor’s coat was slightly creased like he’d rushed out of the hospital without a second thought. Underneath, he had on a black T-shirt and jeans, just something comfortable for a long shift. A stethoscope still hung around his neck, probably out of habit more than anything. His glasses gave him a smart, slightly serious look, but there was an easygoing air about him.“What took you so long?” Alexander asked, masking the discomfort in his body."I left my patients waiting just to come here, and you're complaining?" Tim asked casually, placing his bag on the couch.Alexander just snorted, glaring at him before making his way to the couch.Tim didn’t waste time once he saw Alexander’s condition. She tried to resist but this time, Alexander shoved her harder, and she fell from the bed.He didn't even spare her a glance; he quickly bent toward the bedside table, grabbed his phone, and staggered out of the room.He struggled to walk in the hallway, holding on to the wall for support. When he reached the next suite, he found a couple holding each other as they were about to make their way in.The man opened the door with a gentlemanly smile, signaling to the lady to get in first. Before the woman could react, Alexander snatched the room card and staggered inside leaving the words, “Sorry, I need to use the room.”Before the man could react, he had already locked the door from the inside.“Damn it!” The man

Meanwhile, back in Hawthorne's ancestral home, Marcus knocked on his grandpa's bedroom, casually tucking his other hand into his pants pocket. After Raphael murmured from inside, he pushed the door open and walked inside. The room was dimly lit, with a bedside lamp casting a soft amber glow over the space. The air held a comforting mix of lavender and woody from the old oak furniture.A large, neatly made bed stood against the far wall, its thick duvet turned down slightly, perhaps he was ready for bedtime. An antique clock ticked quietly on the wall, and a pair of slippers sat perfectly aligned by the edge of a plush rug.Raphael was seated on a couch near the window with a steaming cup of tea on the small table in front of him. Despite the warmth in the room, he had a shawl draped over his shoulders, and the lines on his face seemed deeper under the soft light. He seemed to have aged more since the last time Marcus saw him. “Grandpa,” he greeted.“Sit,” Raphael said, pointing at t

Mark turned to him apologetically, “Sorry, boss, I will...” “It's okay. You can go.” Alexander cut him off coldly. Then he added, “Mark, you can take your leave. You will be rewarded for today." He had just remembered it was supposed to be Mark's off day. “Thank you, boss.” Mark nodded happily before walking out, knowing that his boss didn't blame him. She walked over to Marcus and patted his shoulder like he’d just won a major award. “I’m so proud of you, son.” “Marcus, I hope you're not still dreaming of bringing her back,” Lauren scoffed, tilting her chin up in distaste.
