Alyssa

I stood in my huge walk in closet brushing through my pretty dresses and customized clothings before settling for a plain black pair of jeans and a simple black top and I pulled a big gray hoodie over it.

I looked at myself in the mirror my face was pale and eyes were still a little red and puffy from all the crying.

I walked down the big curved staircase of my house the workers in the house, the maid and the cook, they looked up at me with surprise.

Yeah!

They havent seen for seven years now. They were used to my absense.

"Good morning Mss White," they said their voices quiet and careful.

I just gave them a small nod not say anything.

I walked straight to the front door and opened it.

Marcus was waiting outside.

There was a whole line of black cars a big convoy with serious-looking guards standing beside them.

It was like a parade.

I looked at Marcus. "Where are we going with so many cars?" I asked my voice flat. "I want a single car nothing to drag attention. At least not yet."

Marcus frowned. "I’ve watched you do as you want for years and now that—."

I shook my head. "No not today, Just one car…Please."

He tried to argue again. "But—"

I cut him off my voice was still quiet but it was firm. "Marcus one car."

He looked at my face seeing the new hardness in my eyes.

He sighed a big heavy sigh and waved his hand.

The guards nodded and got into the other cars and drove away leaving just one sleek black car.

We got into the back seat as Marcus handed me a folder that contained the divorce papers.

As the car started to move I opened the folder seeing Damon's handwriting all over the places where he had to sign.

His signature was on every page It was the same handwriting that used to write me love notes.

Now it was writing me out of his life.

My heart felt heavy like a stone was sitting on my chest as I took the pen Marcus offered me.

With a hand that shook only a little I signed my name on every line he wanted me to.

My life as Alyssa Hall, It was over.

Soon we got to the front of Damon's company building.

The building I helped him design, The building I spent so much on.

I opened the car door. "Stay here Marcus," I said. "Let me handle this."

He looked like he wanted to argue but he just nodded. "I will be right here."

I walked into the big shiny lobby.

My sneakers were quiet on the marble floor as I walked straight to the front desk where his secretary was sitting.

"I am here to see Damon," I said, my voice calm.

She gave me a sweet fake smile. "Do you have an appointment?"

"No," I said. "But he will see me tell him it's Alyssa."

She shook her head still smiling. "I'm sorry ma'am without an appointment I can’t let you in. Mr. Johnson is a very busy man."

I felt a flicker of anger. "Please," I said trying to keep my cool. "Just call his office and tell him I'm here."

She was about to say no again when I heard a sound of his familiar voice, I turned my head.

The door to Damon's office opened and he walked out, lright beside him clutching his arm like she owned him was Rachel.

They were laughing about something.

My whole body froze.

It was like my feet were glued to the floor my heart that cold rock shattered into a million pieces all over again.

Just seeing them together here in this place that was supposed to be ours hurt more than I could ever explain.

Rachel saw me first.

Her smile turned into a nasty sneer. "Honey," she said her voice sharp. "What is that bitch doing here?"

Damon looked up.

His eyes met mine.

"Alyssa" he called out his voice cold. "What are you doing here? I thought I made it clear that I never wanted to see your face again."

My eyes started to sting with hot tears I could feel my lips begin to quiver as I tried to be strong, I hated myself for being vulnerable in front of the man that had destroyed me.

"I... I came to give you these," I whispered, holding up the folder. "And to curse you, Damon, to curse you for making me lose my babies, our twins. You left me there to die you bastard… after everything"

He shrugged looking unbothered with no sign of remorse’s

Then Rachel laughed It was a cruel high-pitched sound. "You stupid woman," she said. "He never wanted to have babies with you anyway. That's why for years he made sure to exchange your vitamin pills with pills that stop you from getting pregnant!"

The air left my lungs.

I felt like I had been punched in the stomach as I gasped. "What... what are you talking about?"

Rachel smiled, looking proud of herself. "You are such a fool, Alyssa. For six years Damon and I have been together. He was only infatuated with you at the start but after he met me, he knew what real love meant. He was only with you because of your brains.. you were so smart to help him with his company, somehow every idea you gave seemed to work for him."

As she said all this I felt myself breaking.

Shattering.

So all this time... all those years I cried because I couldn't get pregnant... it was him.

He was the reason.

He was poisoning me and then he had the nerve to insult me in front of everyone to say I couldn't give him an heir.

Him and his parents they all knew.

They all laughed at me behind my back.

A rage like I have never felt before exploded inside me mixed with the hurt and the pain until I couldn't see straight.

"You monster!" I screamed, lunging at him.

I grabbed the collar of his suit clutching the fabric in my fists as I cried. "I hate you! I curse the day I met you! I regret every second I loved you! You are a devil!"

"Get away from him you crazy bitch!" Rachel yelled as she tried to pull me off of him.

I pushed her away from me not hard but she stumbled back.

Damon caught her his face turning bright red with anger.

"How dare you touch her! Are you crazy? Do you want to kill our baby” he yelled placing a hand on her bump. "Security! Security!" He called out

The guards in uniforms walked up to us grabbing my arms and pulling me away from Damon.

Rachel was holding her stomach now pretending to look scared. "She tried to kill my baby!" she cried her voice loud and dramatic.

"She tried to push me! Take her to jail! File a report for attempted murder of my baby!"

“Make sure she spends a year in jail…” Damon fires as the guards started to drag me away.

I didn't fight them.

I had no strength left.

The rage was gone and all that was left was a deep numb emptiness.

I let them pull me through the shiny lobby past the staring employees.

My heart was filled with so much pain, anger, and hurt that I couldn't even speak.

I just let them take me my head hanging down in shame.

Alyssa I haven’t stepped out of the house since the incident at the company the bumiliation from the board meeting was a constant, screaming noise in my mind. I couldn't sit still.I couldn't think. I just paced.I ended up in the kitchen of my penthouse. I needed water. My throat was so dry I grabbed a glass and filled it from the tap. My hands were shaking as I lifted the glass to my lips and started gulping the cold water down trying to drown out the thoughts. The sound of the front door opening and closing made me jump. I choked as water went down the wrong way. I started coughing hard. My eyes watered. I bent over putting the glass down hacking into my hand.I heard his footsteps fast he was coming towards me but I refuse to look at him.A hand landed on my back. It was big and warm. He started to rub slow circles trying to help me breathe. As soon as I felt his touch a new kind of panic shot through me. I straightened up fast, pulling away from him so violently I al

AresArthur White stood by the fireplace, his back to me, his shoulders rigid.“It’s the only way,” I said my voice cutting through the silence. “You heard what happened in the boardroom. Martin used Article 12 and the’ve voted, she’s out. She’s not the CEO anymore.”He didn’t turn around. “And your solution to this is to marry her?”“Yes.”Finally, he turned. His face was a mask of fury. “Have you lost your mind? You want to marry my daughter? As a solution?”“It’s not a real marriage,” I said, forcing the words out. They tasted like ash. “It’s a contract, a business arrangement. We get married. She meets the company’s requirement and gets her position back. Martin loses his power. It’s simple.”“Simple?” Arthur roared, slamming his glass down on the mantle. “You think marrying my daughter is simple? Do you have any idea what you’re asking?”“I know exactly what I’m asking,” I said, my own temper rising. I had to make him see. “I’m asking for the legal right to stand beside her to b

Hire a new head of security.”That was it. He was gone Just like that, after everything. He just left.I felt numb as I threw myself into work. It was the only thing I could do.This morning I got a message. It was from my uncle Martin. His message said: ‘Emergency board meeting. • Divorce? Your Biggest Mistake.   CHAPTER SIXTY NINE

AlyssaThe car ride was quiet at first, I just stared out the window watching the beautiful old buildings of Italy blur past. Ares didn't talk either which I’m very thankful for cause right now the last thing I want to do is talk.We soon arrived out our destination and we got out and walked. It wasn't a tour, not really but rather we just walked. We went to a small café and he ordered coffee for us then we sat at a tiny table outside. Ares has been doing most of the talking and I’m very sure he’s beginning to notice too. My lips quivered as I struggle to back bite the words, but it was starting to become too hard as my heart began to escalate. All the confusion, all the fear, it was still there but in that quiet moment, it was overshadowed by one simple terrifying truth.I took a deep breath as I looked at him.He was looking out at the water, his profile strong and serious.“Ares,” I said my voice was soft.He turned to look at me. His dark eyes were calm. “Yes?”I swallow

AresMy phone buzzed in my hand it was Arthur White.I answered it. "Yes.""Update," his voice was a low growl. "I have my man keeping tabs on Martian," I said keeping my voice down. I was standing outside the hotel. "His every move, he has been meeting with Mr. Johnson."There was a silence on the other end. A dangerous silence."Johnson?" Arthur finally said. "What is my brother doing with that old fool again?”"I do not know yet," I said. "But it is can’t be good and Marcus... he convinced Alyssa to bring Damon on this trip. It was his idea."Another silence then a curse. "Marcus too? Are you sure?""Yes," I said. "They are all connected that we know and they’re trying to lure Alyssa into their plan. I do not know the plan yet but I will find out.""You make sure she is safe Ares," Arthur said. His voice was hard. "You keep her away from them. I do not care what you have to do. You keep my daughter safe.""I will make sure she is safe," I said. "I promise."Just then a voice b

AlyssaWe were currently in the boardroom having a meeting with the investors."Thank you all for having us," I said my voice was clear it filled the room. "We can now begin."The men from the Italian company Moretti Enterprises started their presentation. One of them began, he talked about numbers, profit, growth as he showed charts on a big screen."Your company White Enterprise is very strong in America," Giovanni said. "Our company is strong here in Europe we can control the market."I listened as I watched the charts. "Your numbers for the last quarter are impressive," I said. "But I see a problem here." I pointed to the screen. "Your costs in shipping. They went up twenty percent. Why?"Giovanni looked a little nervous. "Ah yes, the fuel prices. It was a difficult season.""I understand fuel prices," I said. My voice was cool. "But your competitors did not have a twenty percent increase they had twelve please explain the difference."He shifted in his chair. "We use a differ
