Natalie’s POV

“When did this happen?” Brandon finally spoke.

“Just finalized,” she said, almost singing the words. “Your mother and I spoke this morning when she came to visit me in the hospital. I couldn’t wait to share the news personally.”

I was caught completely off guard. After everything Mrs. York had heard from Carmilla about the kidnapping, she’d still chosen to cozy up to Vivian—no doubt swayed by Vivian’s powerful name and family connections.

Or maybe she believed Vivian’s lame excuse about it.

Well, whatever. I shouldn’t really care what their relationship is or if Vivian will start working here. I can just stay out of their way.

But unfortunately, I did care. Fuck.

“Come on, Brandon,” Vivian suddenly said, linking her arm with his. “Let’s go to your office to discuss.”

Brandon exhaled and set his shoulders. “Congratulations,” he said evenly. “But I can’t stay to discuss details right now. I already have plans.”

The smile on Vivian’s lips wavered—just for a heartbeat—b

Emma’s POVI woke up to warm breath on my neck.Warm. Male. Definitely not mine.My eyes flew open — and I almost died right there.Lucas Ardent’s arm was wrapped around my waist while my back was pressed against his chest. His leg was thrown over mine and his face was buried against my neck.Like we’d been spooning all night.“WHAT THE—?!” I shrieked, jolting upright. He groaned sleepily, blinking awake. “Morning, Emma.”“Morning?!” I kicked him — hard — off the bed.He hit the floor with a thud. “Ow—! What the hell, Emma?!”“You—were—ON—ME!” I pointed wildly, my face on fire. “Why were you ON MY BODY?!”Lucas pushed himself up, hair messy, still annoyingly handsome, rubbing his side. Then the bastard actually laughed.“Relax, sweetheart. I sleep-move.” He smirked. “Admit it — you wanted to cuddle me.”“I want to drown you,” I snapped.“Kinky,” he said with a wink.I threw a pillow at him. He dodged.“Shut up! I’m calling the front desk.”I grabbed the phone and practically stabbed

Natalie’s POV“Come on,” I said quickly, my voice thinner than I wanted. “Let’s… let’s go home. We’re drenched.”Home. God. I didn’t even know why that slipped out.My heart was racing so hard it practically drowned out the thunder. I couldn’t feel the cold rain anymore—just the heat rushing through my veins, lighting up every nerve like fireworks.Brandon blinked, snapped out of whatever moment we’d almost had, and nodded. “Yeah. Let’s go.”We took off running through the puddles, half-laughing. Rain slapped against our faces and soaked our clothes until they clung to our skin. There was something wild and ridiculous about it, something that made me forget—just for a moment—who we were to each other.By the time we reached the parking lot, my hair was plastered to my cheeks and I could barely see.“That was insane,” Brandon breathed out, brushing water from his eyelashes.“Yeah,” I said softly. “Insane.”But the word meant something entirely different inside my chest. He reached his

Brandon’s POVThe moment Matthew jogged off after that phone call, the silence he left behind felt… charged.Just the two of us now.Natalie adjusted the strap of her bag, looking anywhere but at me. “You don’t have to stay. I can go home by myself.”I shoved my hands into my pockets. “Matthew asked me to take you home.”“I’m perfectly capable of—”“I know.” I exhaled, trying not to sound like an idiot. “I just… I’m here anyway.”She finally looked at me — a quick glance, sharp, assessing. My throat tightened before the words slipped out, uninvited. “So… is he your boyfriend now?”Her head snapped toward me. “What? No.”The relief punched through me so fast I nearly lost balance.I recovered quickly — or tried to. “Right. I mean… sorry. It’s none of my business.”“It really isn’t,” she muttered, crossing her arms.Jealousy twisted in my chest. It was ridiculous. Irrational. Completely unjustified. And completely unstoppable.I cleared my throat. “Do you, uh… want dessert?”That got he

Natalie’s POVThe food truck park was glowing with fairy lights and neon signs, the air thick with the smell of grilled cheese, tacos, and something sweet like cinnamon waffles. People were laughing around us, music played from hidden speakers, and honestly…it was the first time all week I felt like I could breathe.Matthew handed me a paper cup filled with cold lemonade. “Extra ice,” he said with a smile. “You always look like you’re one sweat bead away from murdering someone when you’re stressed.”I snorted. “Wow. Such a compliment.”“You’re welcome,” he said brightly, bumping my shoulder. We settled at a wooden picnic table, the bench slightly wobbly but charming in its own way. For a minute, we just ate in comfortable silence—me with my chicken wrap, him with some massive overloaded hotdog that I was sure defied several health codes. Then he exhaled, long and steady.“Natalie,” he began, voice softer than usual, “I’ve been thinking.”My heart thudded. Oh no. Not this. Not now.“I

Brandon’s POVA few days had passed, and I still wasn’t sure if what happened at Grandpa’s mansion had been real… or something my exhausted brain made up.Because there, in that dim, quiet room filled with dust and memories, Natalie had softened toward me. She had looked at me the way someone looks at a person they actually care about. She had stayed beside me—even when she could’ve left. In the car afterward, she’d spoken gently, carefully. Like she didn’t want to hurt me.For a moment, I’d almost believed… That she saw me and maybe felt something. But then Monday came. And in the office? She was back to being… Natalie Harris. The ruthless legal consultant I had hired. Not friendly. Not warm. But normal.Professional smiles. Crisp updates. Clear reports. And just enough eye contact to make me wonder if she was avoiding me or just genuinely drowning in work. And she wasn’t angry anymore, which was progress, but the distance— damn, it felt colder than before. This morning was no diffe

Emma’s POVWater dripped down his chest. His hair was damp and pushed back. And his eyes—Oh god.His eyes were on me. On my mostly-bare body.“What—WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?!” I hissed, scrambling for the closest robe hanging behind the door.He blinked slowly… way too slowly… like he was taking his sweet time appreciating the situation. Then the bastard smirked.“Just observing,” he said lightly. “You have a habit of barging into rooms without checking.”“I stay here too!” I shot back, tugging the robe around me so hard I nearly strangled myself. “And I thought you weren’t here yet. You—you—just—get out!”Still laughing under his breath, he walked forward to pass me.And that’s when it happened. His arm brushed my bare arm—just the tiniest glide of warm, wet skin sailing across mine—but it was enough to send a bolt of electricity straight through me.I gasped. He definitely felt it.Because he paused. And angled his head. And looked at me like he knew exactly what he’d just done.“Yo
