LOGINElena’s POV
The front door clicked shut with an echoing finality that felt less like coming home and more like entering a tomb.
I kicked off my heels, letting them drop wherever they pleased, and dragged my exhausted body up the stairs.
By the time I locked our bedroom door behind me, the last fragile thread holding my composure together finally snapped.
I didn’t bother turning on the lights. The glow of the moonlight spilled across the floor, casting shadows that stretched like prison bars across the bed and my hands shook violently as I unzipped my dress, letting the fabric pool around my ankles like a puddle of deceitful green water. Standing there in my slip, I pulled the clutch from the vanity and reached deep inside.
My fingers brushed against the smooth and cold plastic. I pulled out the pregnancy test and the two little blue lines stared back at me in the dim light, glowing with a cruel and mocking clarity.
Three hours ago I had practiced delivering this news in the mirror, imagining the way Julian’s face would light up with joy and how he would sweep me off my feet and bury his face in my neck. Now? The thought of telling him made my stomach twist into painful knots.
I pressed both hands flat against my lower stomach with a sudden wave of terror washing over me.
'What am I doing?'
The question echoed in the quiet emptiness of the room sharply and terrifyingly.
I was an orphan. . I had spent my entire childhood bouncing between sterile foster homes and distant relatives who treated me like an inconvenient houseguest, learning early on that nobody stays, nobody cares, and you are entirely on your own.
I had built my whole life around the desperate dream of a family... a safe harbor where I belonged but looking at the two blue lines, a cold and sickening realization settled deep into my bones.
Bringing an innocent child into this toxic suffocating mess wasn’t a miracle.. it was a tragedy. I was tying myself permanently to a man whose heart was permanently buried in a past I could never touch and tethered to a husband who chose another woman’s tears over his own wife’s dignity every single time.
The bedroom door handle rattled aggressively and before I could even hide the test, the door pushed open and slammed against the wall with a loud bang.
Julian stood in the entryway with his tuxedo jacket slung over one shoulder with his tie yanked loose, and a dark scowl carved deep into his handsome features.
“Are you out of your mind?” Julian demanded as he marched inside. “Where you out just to embarrassme? What is wrong with you tonight, Elena?”
I stood frozen near the window with the small plastic stick still clutched tightly in my right hand, hidden behind the folds of my robe.
“What’s wrong with me?” I echoed with my voice dangerously quiet. “Julian, your friends sat there mocking me to my face, and you watched. You didn’t just let them do it... you blamed 'me' for being upset.”
“You humiliated Bianca!” he snapped back, taking three long strides toward me until he was standing close enough for me to smell the cologne on his skin. “She is fragile, Elena. She is grieving the love of her life, and you walk in there throwing a childish temper tantrum just because the spotlight wasn’t on you for five seconds.”
“A temper tantrum?” I let out a dry scoff, shaking my head as the absurdity of his words washed over me. “She clings to my husband like a second skin, she monopolizes every holiday, every dinner, and every single second of your attention, and 'I' am the one throwing a tantrum? Are you hearing yourself right now, Julian? Look at me! I am your wife!”
“And you need to act like it!” he shouted, stepping closer with his dark eyes flashing with unadulterated fury. “Instead of acting like a bitter and ungrateful child who doesn’t know how the real world works!”
“Oh, right,” I sneered with the bitter pain finally boiling over into rage. “Because I didn’t come from money, did I? Because I don’t have a grand family lineage or a tragic backstory good enough to excuse destroying our marriage!”
Julian stopped dead in his tracks. His jaw clenched so tight I thought the bone might fracture as he looked down at me with a look of cold pity.
“You think you can just throw a fit and act like the victim?” Julian asked with his voice dropping into a terrifying hiss that made my breath catch. “Let’s be honest for a second, Elena. Where would you even go? Who else would put up with you? You have no family.. you have no one. Without me, you are completely alone in this world, and you damn well know you wouldn’t survive a single week on your own.”
The air rushed out of my lungs, leaving me gasping as the brutal truth of my deepest and darkest insecurity was weaponized against me by the man who was supposed to protect my heart.
He thought I was dependent.. he thought I was trapped and he thought he owned me because I had nowhere else to run.
Something inside my chest broke... not with a bang but with a cold snap. The terror vanished, replaced entirely by a fierce and blinding defiance.
I straightened my spine, lifting my chin to look him dead in the eye, refusing to let him see the tears burning hot behind my eyelids.
“Is that really what you think?” I whispered with my voice trembling with suppressed rage. “You think I’m too weak to leave you? You think I’ll just sit here and play second fiddle to a ghost and a widow forever just because I’m an orphan?”
“Elena, don’t test me,” he warned, stepping into my personal space with his chest nearly brushing mine.
“No, Julian, 'you' listen to me,” I fired back with my voice rising as I finally let the words out, tearing open the wound once and for all. “I am sick of the ghost of Marcus. I am sick of Bianca and I am completely sick of being married to a man who abandoned his wife on a red carpet! I want a divorce.”
The second the syllables left my lips, the color drained entirely from Julian’s face amd his eyes went pitch black, widening with a dark shock that instantly morphed into rage. The civilized corporate executive vanished in a fraction of a second, replaced by a predator whose territory had just been threatened.
Before I could even blink, Julian lunged forward.
He caught me by the waist with terrifying speed, slamming me backward against the cold plaster of the bedroom wall with a heavy thud that rattled my teeth.
My breath left me in a sharp gasp as his large hand came up, planting itself flat against the wall right beside my head, trapping me completely in his shadow.
His face was inches from mine with his chest heaving and his eyes burning with a dark and unhinged madness.
“Don’t you ever,” Julian hissed with his voice dangerously low and vibrating with an intensity that made my blood run ice cold while his fingers tightened possessively around my hip. “Don’t you 'ever' utter that word in this house again. You are my wife, Elena. You belong to me.. and you are going nowhere...!”

Elena’s POVI didn't answer Bianca. I went to find the only person here I had come for.The garden room was a deep sea of strangers, a few familiar faces bobbing among them. I waded through. Then I heard her, that low, rough voice that had been my comfort for so long. "Elena," she called, holding out both hands.I pushed through the last few guests and reached her. Her hands were thin, but they gripped mine hard. I looked into her face. The creased cheeks, the wisps of white hair. She was looking at my left hand, not my face. "There it is," she said, a small smile on her lips.I felt, more than saw, Bianca's emerald dress flash into the corner of my vision. She bent to kiss Grandma's cheek. "Happy birthday, Grandma."Grandma glanced at Bianca, but her gaze lingered on the chain of pearls at her throat. "Pretty pearls," she said. "Mine are real." Then she turned back to me, as if Bianca had never been there. Bianca's fingers went to her pearls. Then she drifted away.Grandma patted the
Elena’s POV"Not beige," Tracy said, holding up the midnight blue. "Never beige again."I sighed, but I could feel my lips twitching. "I don't need anything fancy. It's just a colleague's birthday.""Which colleague?" Tracy asked, unzipping the dress. She looked at me expectantly."Not today," I said, shifting my weight.Tracy stared at me for a moment, then zipped me into the dress.Tracy loosened the waist without being asked, running her hands along the sides. "Looser," she said. "You said so last time."My hand rested on my stomach for a second, but neither of us commented."Borrowed," Tracy said, handing me her small diamond studs. "Bring them back with a story."I slipped the earrings on. "I'll try," I promised.Downstairs, Bellamy was waiting by the door. He took in the dress, then my face. "Call if you need a car," he said."I'll take a taxi," I replied. He nodded once and opened the door for me.I could see the taxi lights outside the gates. I walked slowly, ignoring the urge
Elena’s POVFor a second I couldn't speak. Then, "You told me you signed it."His chest rose and fell as he breathed. "I told you what you wanted to hear. You hung up on me.""You lied.""I delayed.""Delayed until when?""Until you stop this.""Then I'll make it easy. I'll take nothing. Keep every cent. Sign the paper.""Nothing." He almost smiled. "Grandma married you to me when I couldn't open my eyes. You think a signature undoes that?""Your grandmother asked, and I said yes. If marriage cured comas, Julian, they'd build chapels instead of hospitals."I came around the desk. "You ignored this marriage when you had it. Three years. You looked straight through me at every breakfast, every dinner, every night you left for her." My voice didn't rise. "You don't get to want it now because someone else might."He laughed, once, sharp and breathless. "So there is someone else.""I'll see you in court, Julian."Something in his face cracked then. "Is that his plan? Your colleague?" He je
JulianI stared out the window of my car, watching the city blur past with my fingers digging into the armrest while an ache settled deep in my chest. I missed Elena. The silence of our empty house gnawed at me every night with the reality of her absence feeling like a wound I refused to acknowledge aloud. My pride demanded that I drag her back by force and crush whoever dared to fund her escape but a sudden realization shifted my perspective. If I attacked her mysterious investors and forced her hand through intimidation, she would only despise me more. I wanted her to return to me willingly. I needed her to walk back through my front door on her own two feet, admitting she made a mistake.“Turn the car around,” I ordered.“Sir?” my driver asked, glancing into the rearview mirror.“Cancel the pursuit and head back to the office,” I instructed him, reaching for my phone to send a quick message to my security team. “Revoke the bounty. We are standing down for now.”The driver nodded, m
ElenaI stepped out of the private elevator and walked into the vast living space of the penthouse. The rich scent of the penthouse immediately washed over me, instantly melting the lingering stress from my shoulders.Noah stood by the kitchen island pulling a tray of roasted vegetables from the oven while Finn arranged a ridiculous amount of food across the long dining table.“The conquering hero returns,” Finn cheered, setting a bowl of pasta down and tossing a dish towel over his shoulder.“I survived my first day,” I smiled, dropping my purse onto the nearest armchair before walking over to hug them both. “So what's this emergency about?”“You look exhausted,” Noah noted, gesturing toward the spread of food. “This is the emergency. Come on.. we're not all here but at least Finn and I are free, so we wanted to hangout over an early dinner. Sit down and eat. We made your favorites to celebrate your new beginning.”The dread eating me up since I saw the message instantly gave way to
ElenaBianca slapped both her hands flat against the top of my desk with the sharp smack echoed in the small room and rattling the pens I had carefully aligned earlier.“You are using this job to get back at me,” Bianca hissed, leaning over the desk to glare into my face. “You think you can play doctor and diagnose me just to get petty revenge for your failed marriage. You orchestrated this whole setup.”I leaned back in my chair and folded my hands over her intake file, refusing to match her frantic energy.“Your marriage and mine are separate issues, Bianca, and no one forced you to book an appointment here. You use your pregnancy and your exaggerated grief as tools of emotional control. You manufacture these health crises because you deeply fear Julian will discard you the second you become inconvenient to his daily routine.”“You know nothing about us!” Bianca screamed. She snatched her handbag off the floor and clutched it against her chest like a shield. “You are just jealous be
