MasukElena’s POV
Every single breath felt like inhaling shards of broken glass and the harsh antiseptic glare of the ambulance ceiling lights pierced straight through my closed eyelids.
I was lying on a stretcher with a stiff plastic cervical collar biting into my neck while the paramedic hastily pressed a cold oxygen mask over my face.
“Keep her still,” a voice called somewhere above me. “Pulse is dropping. We need to move fast.”
Through the hazy fog of shock and pain my gaze drifted toward the front of the rushing vehicle. Julian sat on the bench seat opposite my stretcher with his broad shoulders hunched forward. But he wasn't looking at me.. he wasn't holding my trembling bruised hand.
Instead, he was leaning over a whimpering Bianca who was draped in a thermal blanket like a delicate Victorian princess caught in a summer shower.
“You're okay. I've got you,” Julian murmured with protective panic that he had never once shown for me as he gently brushed a stray lock of dark hair away from her forehead, his thumb lingering on her cheek with tenderness.
A bitter metallic taste filled my mouth but it wasn't from the crash. It was humiliation.
When the ambulance finally screeched to a halt outside the county hospital emergency bay, medical staff swarmed the back doors with precision, shouting rapid-fire medical terms, wheeling my stretcher out into the bright frantic chaos of the trauma ward.
“Sir, you need to stay behind the yellow line,” a nurse snapped, blocking Julian as he tried to follow Bianca’s gurney instead of mine.
Julian hesitated with his dark eyes flickering between the trauma bay doors where Bianca had vanished and the narrow curtained cubicle where they were wheeling me. For one fleeting and pathetic second, I held my breath. I wanted him to choose his wife.. I wanted him to step across that line and prove that three years of marriage actually meant something.
He took half a step toward my cubicle with his mouth parting as if to speak.
Then a nurse came rushing out, calling, “Mr. Sterling? Your friend’s blood pressure is spiking. She's asking for you.”
Julian didn't look back. He turned on his heel and disappeared down the corridor, leaving me entirely alone with strangers in blue scrubs.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, I hysterically thought, staring up at the tiles of the hospital ceiling as a sharp pain ran through my lower abdomen.

The next two hours blurred together in a painful cycle of smells, cold metal instruments and hushed medical whispers. An overworked ER doctor gently pressed a warm ultrasound wand across my bruised stomach with his face settling into a grim, professional mask.
“We need to run some urgent blood panels and a secondary scan, Mrs. Sterling,” the doctor said quietly, refusing to meet my eyes. “Given the severity of the trauma from the fall, your body is under extreme physical stress. We're monitoring the fetus very closely.”
“Is my baby okay?” I whispered with my voice cracking snd tears finally spilling over my lashes to pool against my temples.
“We're doing everything we can,” he answered evasively before stepping out of the small curtained room.
I couldn't just lie there waiting in the dark while my entire world fell apart. Ignoring the fierce blinding agony screaming through my ribs, I pushed myself up off the examination table. My bare feet touched the freezing floor, sending a fresh wave of nausea rolling through my stomach.
I grabbed a discarded hospital gown, threw it over my shoulders like a shield and crept out into the quiet, fluorescent-lit hallway.
The hospital was eerily still at this hour as I limped slowly toward the private VIP consultation wing, following the soft murmur of voices drifting from an open office door at the end of the hall.
I froze outside Dr. Evans's private office where Julian’s deep and tense voice carried clearly through the gap in the doorway.
“Are you absolutely certain, Doctor? There's no mistake?”
“I am positive, Mr. Sterling,” Dr. Evans replied with his tone laced with careful professional caution. “The hormone levels and the ultrasound confirmation leave no doubt. Bianca is in the early stages of a healthy pregnancy. Roughly six weeks along.”
The air rushed violently out of my lungs.
Six weeks..?!
Six weeks ago.. Marcus had been dead for over a year. Six weeks ago Bianca was already living in her mansion of grief, crying into Julian's shoulder every single night while her dead husband's best friend played the devoted savior.
“Six weeks,” Julian repeated in a disbelieving whisper that sounded less like shock and more like a terrifying irreversible awakening. “God... Marcus...”
“Given the circumstances of the upcoming anniversary and the emotional trauma she's experienced,” the doctor continued, oblivious to the fact that a ghost was bleeding out in the hallway outside his door, “she's going to need immense stability. As the father, you'll need to be fully prepared for...”
I didn't hear the rest. The walls of the white corridor suddenly tilted sideways.
The math suddenly clicked into my brain. While I was at home planning our anniversary dinner, while I was carefully hiding my own two blue lines in a velvet clutch, Julian was busy planting his own child inside the woman who lived in our shadow! Every excuse, every late-night rescue mission and every defensive scream when I dared to question their toxic bond all clicked into place with sickening clarity.
I wasn't a wife.. I was a convenient alibi and a legal shield to hide a scandalous affair with a dead man's widow..!
The pain in my ribs burnrd hot but it was nothing compared to the dead hollow numbness spreading through my chest.
The fragile desperate girl who had spent three years begging for scraps of affection from a man who never loved her finally died right there on the linoleum floor.
I turned around and with slow agonizing steps, I limped back down the corridor, gripping the wall for support until I reached the quiet corner of the emergency lobby.
My hands shook violently as I pulled my cracked phone from the pocket of my sweatpants. My thumb hovered over the screen, tapping out a number I knew by heart... the only person in this entire world who shared my blood, the only person who had ever truly looked out for me.
The line rang twice before a groggy and deep voice answered. “Elena? It's three in the morning. Is everything...”
“Leo,” I interrupted with my voice trembling while a fresh silent tear cutting a clean path through the dirt and dust on my cheek. “Come get me.”
“El, what happened? Where are you?” My brother's voice instantly snapped from tired to razor-sharp panic. “Are you hurt?”
“I'm at St. Jude's General,” I whispered, staring down at my bruised and trembling hands, feeling the last remaining threads of my old life snap completely. “And Leo? Call a lawyer on your way. I want a divorce.. and I want to strip him of everything...!”

Elena“She has somewhere to go.”Julian turned around with his eyes narrowing as he took in Bellamy’s expensive suit and calm and imposing presence.“Who the hell are you?” Julian asked with his voice dripping with authority. “How did you get into my house?”“The front door was wide open,” Bellamy replied, stepping past Julian into the bedroom as if he owned the property. He didn’t glance at the high ceilings or the expensive artwork on the walls. His entire focus remained on me with his eyes softening as he checked for any signs of physical harm. “Are you ready to go, Elena?”I picked up my duffel bag from the floor. “I am ready.”“Wait just a minute!” Vivienne interjected, marching over to stand beside her son. “You can’t just walk into a private residence and carry off my son’s wife! Who hired you? Are you the sleazy lawyer who drafted that ridiculous extortion paper on the floor?”Bellamy finally cast a glance at Vivienne with his expression indifferent as though she were a minor
ElenaVivienne’s hands ripped the duffel bag from my grasp, sending my remaining strength sliding away like sand through cold fingers.“Let go of my bag, Vivienne,” I warned with my voice cutting through the silent master suite.“You will not walk out of my son’s home carrying Sterling heirlooms or expensive jewelry you didn’t earn,” Vivienne sneered, unzipping the main compartment with a harsh metallic tug then unceremoniously overturned the bag onto the floor.Folded shirts, simple trousers and a worn pair of leather flats spilled across the hardwood. There was no silver, no diamonds and no designer label dresses.. only the modest clothing I had brought into this marriage and maintained with my own money.Vivienne stood above the pile with her eyes searching the garments for something to validate her accusations. When she found nothing, her face tightened with a flare of disappointment crossing her features before she smoothed it over with a cold glare.“You think you are clever, do
ElenaThe dawn finally broke over the hospital parking lot and I stood near the emergency exit, ignoring the throbbing pain in my ribs and the cold air biting at my bare arms.Three months ago, a man named Bellamy Torres had tracked me down at the university research clinic. He had cornered me in the hallway with a bright, eager smile, telling me he was my eldest brother. He said he had spent years searching for me and wanted me to come home.I had turned him away. I told him my home was with Julian, clinging to the naive belief that my marriage would eventually turn into a real family.I had no idea who the Torres family was, nor did I care about reconnecting with biological relatives I had never known, but walking out of the trauma ward tonight, realizing my husband had abandoned me to tend to his pregnant mistress, I decided to reach out to Bellamy, and he responded on the first ring.A black car pulled up to the curb and the engine idled quietly as the driver’s door opened and Bel

Elena’s POVSunlight filtered through the curtains, pooling in warm and deceptive patches across the floor. I blinked against the brightness with my body still aching from the adrenaline of the night before. For a terrifying second, I expected to find the room empty with the ghost of Julian’s dark warning still hanging like smoke.Instead, the rich buttery scent of croissants and freshly brewed coffee drifted up the stairs, wrapping around my senses and dragging me out of bed.I pulled my robe tight around my shoulders, tiptoeing down the hallway with my guard up higher than a medieval fortress. I froze on the bottom step of the kitchen, completely paralyzed by the sight before me.Julian stood by the island wearing a crisp white button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The terrifying unhinged predator of last night had completely vanished, replaced once again by the man I had fallen in love with three years ago.“Morning,” Julian said softly with his voice carryin
Elena’s POVThe front door clicked shut with an echoing finality that felt less like coming home and more like entering a tomb. I kicked off my heels, letting them drop wherever they pleased, and dragged my exhausted body up the stairs.By the time I locked our bedroom door behind me, the last fragile thread holding my composure together finally snapped.I didn’t bother turning on the lights. The glow of the moonlight spilled across the floor, casting shadows that stretched like prison bars across the bed and my hands shook violently as I unzipped my dress, letting the fabric pool around my ankles like a puddle of deceitful green water. Standing there in my slip, I pulled the clutch from the vanity and reached deep inside. My fingers brushed against the smooth and cold plastic. I pulled out the pregnancy test and the two little blue lines stared back at me in the dim light, glowing with a cruel and mocking clarity.Three hours ago I had practiced delivering this news in the mirror, i
