Jasper sighed. "It's just a theory."

He still had no definitive proof that Mark would go through with it, just the probability.

"I'm not leaving," Renee said bluntly. "We've gone through so much to expose Mark. I'd like to wait, especially when we're this close to the truth."

Jasper didn't argue, seeing how determined she was.

Even though he held her and coaxed her to sleep, she remained uneasy. "Just go. It won't do if they catch you here."

"Just sleep. If I can get here, I can leave," he said, patting her back assuringly.

Renee hence leaned against his chest, wrapped in his warmth and his fresh scent, feeling utterly safe.

Even though she kept telling herself not to fall asleep and enjoy every moment she had with him, her eyelids felt like lead, and she just couldn't keep them open. She soon fell sound asleep.

She was still asleep the next morning when she was woken by the knocking on her door, and her mind was blank as she sat up.
