•Juliet's POV•

Edward's voice echoed in my ear as I sat in the car, staring out the window. I hadn't expected him to react the way he did, and the fact that I told him about Jace being his son must've triggered all that.

"Uh, what was I thinking?" I mumbled to myself. "I shouldn't have gone to see him on my own. Now I feel awkward."

I squeezed the hand that was resting on my lap and took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly as if calming the storm within me. Luckily for me, Eric pulled into the driveway of the mansion and opened the door. I stepped out and walked hastily to the entrance.

Clutching my bag handle in my hand, I drowned in thoughts of what to do the next time I see Edward. Since I’d already told him I would reply later, I had to be sure that whatever response I gave wouldn't end up hurting me.

I walked into the living room and saw Vera and Jace sitting on the couch. Jace had a chocolate bar in his hand and was nibbling on it while he watched TV peacefully. Vera must’ve hear
