INICIAR SESIÓN"Stop the carriage! You two, come and have a drink with me!"
The command came suddenly from the back seat. The two guards exchanged a puzzled glance. They couldn't begin to guess what the young lady was thinking. Inside the tavern, the lights were dim and the music pounded. The noise swallowed her whole. It was Hannah's first time in such a place, and the racket made her uneasy. But somehow the chaos eased the knot in her chest. She slid into a corner booth and ordered several bottles of brandy and sparkling wine. When the waiter brought them, she lifted a glass, tipped back her head, and drained it in one swallow, as though it were medicine for her wounds. Glass after glass. She drank like someone who had lost her mind. The guards tried to stop her, but Hannah had sunk too deep into her own grief to hear them. The wine tasted like sweet spring water, soothing her parched heart. As the hours passed, the alcohol took hold. What had seemed mild turned fierce, and its sting crept up on her. But she stayed lost in her own world. Men around the tavern had noticed her beauty and were eager to approach. But when they saw the two grim, broad-shouldered guards beside her, they thought better of it. As the night deepened, her thoughts blurred. Her body swayed, her eyes lost focus, and her words slurred. The guards knew she couldn't go on like this and moved to take her away. Hannah shoved off the guard's hand and shouted drunkenly, "Tonight, everything is on me!!!" The music drowned her out. But the people nearby heard and laughed. "Beautiful lady, is that true?" "Is she just showing off?" "Ha! Look at her. She's so drunk she's like a sack of flour. She doesn't know what she's saying." A wicked smile spread across her lovely face, like a night sprite's. "Of course it's true!" They assumed she was babbling and ignored her. Hannah turned to her guard. "Tell their manager to come and settle the bill with me tomorrow." He shook his head and sighed. "Miss, you've had too much. Let's go." "No... I... I didn't drink too much! I can still drink!!" Her tongue tripped over every word. Then she gripped his arm, her face suddenly grim. "I'm going to be sick. Take me to the washroom. Now." The guards hurried her there at once. She hugged the basin and retched until most of the wine was out. Then she splashed her face with water and felt a little clearer. As she stumbled back into the corridor, she saw someone she recognized: the man from the luxury boutique. He was alone. His face was slightly flushed, clearly from drink, but he still carried himself with striking poise, tall and straight in his black suit. With a touch of wine on his skin, there was something severe and untouchable about him. He passed her on his way to the washroom. Their eyes met, and his flickered. He recognized her too. In that moment, a wildly reckless idea crashed into Hannah's mind. She and Lucas had been married for years, and she had never conceived. The healers had said she wasn't barren, only that it would be difficult. The man before her was extraordinarily handsome, with a face like a carved statue. She couldn't help glancing back at his broad shoulders as he walked away. She swallowed. Then she hurried to her guards and whispered, "Find a way to bring that man to an inn for me." Her intention was plain. The two guards stared at each other. They had never imagined the dignified young lady could be so reckless, or have such mad ideas. One of them hesitated. "Miss, are you absolutely sure?" Hannah nodded firmly, her eyes bright. They looked troubled, thought it over, and said reluctantly, "Miss, we'll do our best. But it may be difficult." She smiled faintly. "If you succeed, I'll have my father reward you handsomely when I return to the Harrington house." At that, both men straightened and brightened. They moved fast. They slipped into a shadowy corner of the washroom corridor and waited. At last the man stepped out. The guards traded a look and approached. One of them struck without warning, using a swift sleeper hold, and the man went limp, unconscious. It was clean and silent, and no one noticed. Hannah had already returned to the carriage. She sat waiting in the front seat, her eyes full of hope, silently praying it would go smoothly. Time dragged. Finally she saw the guards returning with the man. Her heart pounded. When she saw him, a satisfied smile curved her lips. The carriage rolled smoothly onward and stopped at a grand hotel. She took a room and ordered the guards to carry the man up. After they left, only she and the unconscious man remained. His crystal was buzzing again and again, full of missed calls and messages. Hannah picked it up. Dozens of calls had come in. She unlocked it with his hand and sent a short reply. If you're busy, don't disturb me! The instant it was sent, the calls stopped. She let out a breath, silenced her own crystal, tossed it aside, and turned to the man on the bed. She reached out and gently touched his cheek, feeling the warmth of his skin. A flicker of guilt crossed her eyes, and she whispered, "I'm sorry... I know this is wrong. But tonight, I'll repay you with my body." This night was fated to be a night of passion.Eleanor hesitated, but she agreed. "Well... in that case, I'll pack and go to Rosalind in a few days."Edmund cut in firmly. "There's no need to wait. We leave first thing tomorrow morning! The sooner we arrive, the sooner we can prepare. I can also use the trip to introduce Rosalind to the heir of the Smith family. She's so outstanding that if we form a bond with that house, it will greatly help the Harrington Group's expansion into foreign markets."Once she heard it touched the family's business, Eleanor stopped wavering. She gave Hannah an apologetic look and spoke softly."Hannah, Mom has to go away for a while. Focus on your studies while I'm gone. When I'm back, I'll spend much more time with you."Hannah smiled and nodded. "Okay, Mom. I'll study hard at home."Seeing how obedient and understanding her daughter was, Eleanor felt comforted. But Sebastian's face darkened. He frowned."Father, this heir of the Smith family. Do you mean Herbert Smith, the one tangled up in all thos
Night fell over the Harrington manor. In the great dining hall, a vast table was crowded with dishes that made the mouth water.Foie gras, caviar, black truffles, deep-sea tuna, king crab, Southern Isles lobster, prized highland beef...The finest delicacies from every corner of the world covered the table, their aromas curling through the air. The meal was worth more than an ordinary family earned in a year.Eleanor had spent the whole day leading Hannah around the island, and Hannah had been astonished a hundred times over. After seeing the Harringtons' extravagance, nothing surprised her anymore. No wonder people say the happiness of the rich is beyond imagination. If you're not happy, you simply aren't rich enough!Eleanor had also told her the truth about her sister, Rosalind.Rosalind was not Edmund and Eleanor's blood child. After Hannah was stolen, Eleanor wept day after day. She lost her appetite, her mind frayed, and eventually she fell into a very serious sickness of the sp
Inside the lift, Eleanor happily explained the layout."The second floor is your father's and my chamber. The third is Sebastian's. The fourth is Rosalind's. And the fifth is yours alone!"She squeezed Hannah's hand. "Everything is ready. If anything isn't to your liking, tell me, and I'll have a designer redo it."Hannah nodded. "I'll like whatever you and Dad arranged. There's nothing I'd change."The lift doors slid open, and a breath of luxury drifted out.Hannah stepped through into a magnificent entrance hall, as if she had walked into a palace. She stood frozen, stunned.Slowly she walked deeper in, and an enormous sitting hall opened before her. Its ceiling was painted with a glittering starry sky, casting a wondrous glow. The hall alone must have been over five thousand square feet. It held a lounge, a reception salon, a hall for entertainment, a small concert hall, a dining room, a tavern bar and a kitchen, every corner elegant and comfortable. The furniture was arranged wit
Edmund's face went dark and still, like a stagnant pool.Sebastian's words were not without sense. Hannah carried his blood, yet she had let herself be humiliated this far. She was hardly fit for any important task.If it had been Rosalind, she would have kept the Hales firmly in hand, and there would have been no divorce, no betrayal. In the end, it was because Hannah hadn't been raised at their side. She lacked experience and polish, and so she wasn't ready for the public eye.Eleanor frowned in thought, as if sharing the same worry.Seeing his father silent, Sebastian kept quiet too. He had already gotten what he wanted.Ha. She doesn't even know what she is. She has no ability and no education, and she still dreams of being loved by her parents. Dream on.Hannah's thoughts churned as she listened. She could see plainly that Sebastian harbored a deep hostility toward her. Her own brother did not want her in the family. His words were meant to drive a wedge between her and Edmund, t
Hannah looked around. The great hall was vast, bright and dazzling, every inch of it breathing grandeur. Her lips parted slightly, her face full of awe.Off to one side, Sebastian watched her with deep disdain.Ha. What an ignorant creature. If she weren't his parents' blood, he would never have wanted anything to do with someone of her station.Edmund and Eleanor had eyes only for their daughter, and didn't notice him.Hannah wandered across the hall, praising everything she saw."Mom, Dad, our home is so beautiful! It's so big, calling it a palace wouldn't be an exaggeration!"Eleanor smiled and stroked her hair. "Hannah, I've had the fifth floor decorated for you. Go up and see if you like it. If anything isn't to your taste, tell me, and your father and I will bring in a designer to redo it however you wish." Her voice overflowed with love.Hannah smiled. "Since you arranged it, I'll love it, whatever the style.""If you like it, that's all I need! If you like it, that's enough!"
Hannah stood stunned, unsure how to respond. Then the young man stepped forward and looked her over. A flash of disgust crossed his eyes and was gone in an instant."Father, Mother, is this my real sister?"Edmund and Eleanor nodded quickly."That's right, Sebastian. She is your sister."The young man showed no surprise. He gave a slight nod, his expression distant, his eyes cool and aloof. He extended his hand and spoke calmly."Hello. I'm Sebastian Harrington, your older brother. If calling me 'brother' feels too familiar, you may simply call me Sebastian."It was as stiff and formal as the opening of a business meeting. There was none of the warmth that should have existed between siblings.Hannah was puzzled by his manner. She hesitated, then politely shook his hand."Hello, Sebastian. I'm Hannah Winters..."Before she could finish, Edmund cut in. "Hannah, now that you're home with the Harringtons, it's time to introduce yourself differently."Her heart tightened, and she correcte
