Jessica froze.

She stood up straight and dropped the cupcake. Turning around, she plastered on a sweet smile. “Oh, Theo… you came back early. Dave and I wanted to surprise you-”

“What the hell were you doing?” I interrupted her, wondering if something was wrong with her head.

If I hadn't come in and witnessed it for myself, I wouldn't have believed it.

“Uhmm, w-what?” Jessica stammered, putting on a confused look. “What do you mean, Honey?”

“Witch! Didn't you try to poison me just now!?” Dave grabbed a tissue and wiped off the smudges of cupcake on his lips.

He jumped down from the dining chair and ran to my side. “This wicked witch has been harassing me since morning. What took you so long, Theo?”

I wanted to reassure him that I was here and would end Jessica's craziness.

First, it was posting the boy's photos on the internet, and now this!

But Jessica's stance wavered.

She staggered and grabbed the chair's handle, staring at us in disbelief. “What's this, Theo? Dave is just bein

Jessica was just desperate for a child, that's all. Many times, she'd brought up the topic of having our own child even though I kept postponing the wedding. Her desperation was born from my mother's constant nagging who had been longing for a grandchild for many years now. “That's enough, Dave… Return that bag. Besides, I haven't found your parents yet.”Which will be my priority from now on. Thomas Sinclair had been apprehended. The doctor had already agreed to go to the Island,Most of my worries had decreased, and the only important task ahead was finding his parents. Otherwise,It's not only Jessica’s craziness I'm wary of. My mother could do something as crazy too.“I'm not staying in this place until Jessica leaves. And promise that she never comes back,” Dave grumbled, pursing his lips. It's not like I like Jessica's company. She must have left already in fact. So it's not something to worry about. Noticing the boy holding his stomach, I frowned a bit. “Hungry?”Dave re

I don't need to wait for the lab results. I hated that boy at first sight and my instincts never lie! He's Theo's son indeed even without the DNA results. Damn! He resembled Theo so much, I was such a fool that I failed to notice it earlier. On our way to the hospital, I clung to the man, burying my head in his chest and crying as hard as I could.Theo was too quiet and impassive. Worry crept inside me as the Butler came forward and took Dave's hand. Grandpa is a grumpy old man. I've never seen him interact with kids before. Wouldn't it be awkward? Dave is a grumpy little boy as well who seems to have a passionate dislike for adults. What if he said something that could irk the old man off? No! I have to stop this.As the Butler led the boy to Grandpa's bed, it was too late for me to stop them.Grandpa suddenly sat up and picked Dave up to sit beside him.Very interesting. The old man could be this agile as well. How cunning!I wasn't over my initial surprise yet when Grandpa shocked me again. For the first time in many years, I saw the old man smile brightly. He cupped Dave's cheeks in his palms, giving him a doting look. “What an adorable little boy. Indeed, you have inherited the best genes. Tell Grandpa how Theo has been treating you.”“He's just so-so.” Dave put on a pouty look, acting spoiled in the old man's presence. “Forget about Theo, are you ge

I returned to the hotel suite, feeling some of the heavy weight lifted off my shoulders. For whatever the reason was for Grandpa Victor to quit his act, I'm so grateful.Imagine following the medical crew to the Island and wasting my time. Imagine counting all my hopes on Dr. Davison alone. Grandpa Victor decided to put up such a cunning act. For what reason, though? Was it as the nurses speculated? Was it to fish out his enemies? It seemed to have worked as Thomas Sinclair and his allies just happened to reveal their true colors while the old man was in a coma- or should I say faking it! “Damn that idiot! I turned around, nodding to his question.Reading the seriousness on his face, I could guess he wanted to discuss an important topic.“I'm all ears,” I said and sat on the bed. Ethan sat beside me. “Are you sure about this, Olivia? Me acting with you as a couple…”I looked down. Well, I hadn't thought much into it.That day, at the hospital, I jumped into the act when Dave addressed Ethan that way. I didn't think whether Ethan was comfortable with it or not, and I continued with the act whenever Theo was present at the scene. “Sorry for dragging you into this…” I looked up, reading his expression for any signs of discomfort. But Ethan smiled at me. “Why do you apologize? I'm not complaining. I just thought maybe that-”“Theo will see through our lies?” I completed his words, convinced that's what he wanted to say. Well, that's something else. I don't want Theo to know that I'm putting on this act all because of him. I have no problem with spiting him by acting like a couple wit

Was she cursed to spill every secret?I never knew the Nanny could be such a blabbermouth.I'd tried to hide this from Prof. Joanne as best as I could while upstairs in order not to increase her stress levels. The old woman had gone through enough shock for today, right? That's it.“You can leave now, Maya. Please don't find us until I call you.”“Ah, why not, Ms. Lawson?” Maya let go of the old woman and rushed to me. “I thought you had forgiven me already. Isn't that why you asked me to stay?”I only sent her inside, detecting that she could spill the truth in Theo’s presence after seeing her reaction when Dave called Ethan his Dad.Walking to the couch, I picked up my bag and brought out some cash. “Here's money for a taxi. And if Theo Wellington finds you and asks you anything, please don't spill a word.”Maya lowered her head, a look of realization flashing in her eyes.Nodding obediently, she apologized, “I'm sorry for every inconvenience I've caused you, Ms. Lawson- I truly am.

I cursed inside, tossed my phone aside, and rushed out.Damn! I shouldn't overlook this, knowing that Theo would try to take Dave away, I should have kept him beside me.On leaving the house, I found the man's car parked outside the small fenced gates and he's trying to make Dave sit in it.It wasn't only Theo convincing my son to get inside the car, but also the Nanny who I've just turned away.“Come on, Dave… Nanny will be you with, and Mr. Wellington is your Daddy. Don't be scared, Sweetie… we'll be back in a jiffy.”“Let go of me!” Dave shouted. “He's a bad guy.”“Hehe- I know it's sad that he accidentally made Grandma Joanne faint. Well, if he was a bad guy, you wouldn't have followed him to L.A., right? You knew all this time that he was your Daddy-”“You!” I stopped running, staring at the Nanny speechlessly. Seeing how hard she's trying to convince Dave to enter the car while Theo held the car's door open, the cunning man must have promised her something.“What do you think y

A Few Minutes Later I was lucky to bring Prof. Joanne back to her senses. The old woman was too weak to sit down, so I made her rest on her bed.“I thought you considered me your family, Olivia. Why did you hide this secret from me?” She complained. “Did you think that I wouldn't stand up for you because you're hiding from someone so powerful?”Shaking my head, I sighed. That wasn't my reason. In all these years, I didn't discuss Theo with her because I didn't like even the mention of his name.I'd lied to Prof. Joanne that Dave's father was someone insignificant and not worth mentioning because that's how I'd regarded Theo in my heart.“I'm so sorry, Professor. If I knew Theo would barge in on us-”“I understand…” The woman patted my hand and smiled weakly. “Now I know the reason behind your sudden visit. But you can't run from problems, Dear. Or they'll keep piling up.”Well, what do I do now?All thanks to the Nanny, Theo has found us. He has finally seen Dave, one of my worst f

Olivia's POV This neighborhood is so serene and secure, unlike the apartment building downtown buzzing with the activities of people.I should consider buying a house around here and moving here. This way, nobody could barge in or come here announced. “Why do you need a house when your time here is almost over, Dear?” Prof. Joanne asked me as we went through some research papers together.Well, I can't believe how fast time flies. It's five years already and the project will soon be over. “Actually, I'm considering staying behind…” I revealed. “I like it here in Geneva, Professor. I think I've adapted to life here.”“Uhm, that's strange.” The woman gave me an inquisitive look as if she didn't quite believe me. “Don't you miss your family in the U.S.? I thought you were planning to move back there. Unless you've changed your mind.”“Y- Yeah…” I smiled and picked up the teacup in front of me, sipping on it. “Dreams can take a person anywhere, right?”Prof. Joanne nodded in agreement

Vanished?Likely story. Why am I not surprised? After giving me the fake sample, Olivia would definitely try to evade me by running away with my son.I sighed and ended the call. Now what?Geneva is not like L.A., and I can't guarantee that I'll find her easily.Where do I start looking?Yet again, I had another sleepless night. My time in Geneva isn't as I've planned at all.I'd thought after hearing that I'd canceled the wedding with Jessica, Olivia would be touched.I'd thought that she'd feel free and tell me the truth. But it's more difficult than I'd imagined. In the morning, despite my exhaustion, I left for the apartment building to see it for myself.True to the investigator’s words, Olivia was gone and her apartment was locked. What to do next?I'd never been this confused or clueless. If only I could get a single hint.Who could help me in this situation?I sat on the stairwell, thinking for a long time. Then an idea lit up in my head.Although I was not very sure it woul

…Theo's POV I'm not so dumb. When I asked for the sample, knowing there was no way Olivia would allow me to see Dave, I expected her to say no and insist I left. But then, she agreed and instantly brought me a sample.I'm not a fool to believe her. But I have to change strategies.Approaching Olivia directly or pleading and showing her my desperation won't get me what I want. She's hellbent on denying me access to Dave.I never knew she could be so stubborn. “Mr. Wellington, here is all the information you asked for.” The private investigator’s voice dragged my attention. Not only were they written information,There were also some photos attached to the file. “Five years ago, Dr. Lawson came to Geneva, following a professor for an important project. A few months later after she came, she gave birth to a boy.”As the investigator narrated the story, my heart stirred with a complex emotion, seeing Dave's photo when he was an infant. Olivia was sitting on a hospital bed, looking

“Olivia-”“Please leave, Theo Wellington.” I cupped my palms together, giving him a hopeless look. The man's desperation scared me.The more he pushed, the more anxious I became.Never would I imagine a scenario whereby my son could be snatched from me someday. And Theo Wellington is capable of that. His eyes are on Dave now, and he'll do anything to take him away. “I've already told you that he's mine and Ethan's son. Just leave us alone, Theo!”I pleaded in a desperate tone, hopeful he would heed my request. But he stared at me as if I was the one torturing him. “Stop doing this, Olivia. Both you and I know Dave is our son. I don't remember you to be a dishonest person.”When did he start trusting me?Who cares if he thinks I'm honest or not?I'd rather be dishonest than let go of my happiness.I'll be selfish in all sense if it comes to ensuring my son's safety. “Allow me to do a DNA test,” Theo added. “Once the result comes out, I'll naturally leave if Dave is not my son.”But he

Olivia's POV Unless that kidnapper was invincible, he would not be so brave to step into the apartment building in daylight. He couldn't bypass the security or even had the guts to knock. When Nanny Maya ran back inside with that frightful expression, I already had an inkling who that kidnapper was. Despite that, I hoped it was not him. It shouldn't be Theo. My warning yesterday should be enough to make him back off.“Ms. Lawson, it's- It's that man.” Maya was literally shaking like a leaf as she spoke incoherently.Sighing, I took her hand, heading back in the same direction.Dave is in his room, and I don't want this to alert him.Peeking through the hole in the door confirmed my suspicion.Theo is here!“Do you know him, Ms. Lawson?”I nodded to the Nanny's question to stop her from panicking further. “B- But how?” Maya exclaimed. “Who's he? They took Dave away the other time.”I couldn't possibly explain everything to the Nanny, especially exposing Theo’s identity. So I reass
