I looked at the papers on the table and my heart was beating tight. Only hours ago, I believed that the divorce will be the most easiest thing in my life. Now I understood that it was just the very beginning. “I can never believe I forgot about the registration,” I said to myself, and I rubbed my fingers up against my forehead. “How could I be so careless?” Mira shook her head at once. “Do not begin to blame yourself,” she said. “You trusted your mate. That’s normal. Darius took advantage of that confidence on you.” I sighed deeply. “It was company of my mother,” I said to myself. “She built it from nothing. All bottles, all formulas, all herbal elixirs... she did her best to make it a success. I assured her when she was dying that I should defend it.” Mira bent forward a little. “And you still can,” she said. “But it won’t be easy.” I looked at her. “What do you mean?” She moved the papers aside and crossed her arms. “Right now, Darius is the owner in the eyes of the law. It will mean that it will have to fight a legal battle and a miracle to take it back.” My stomach twisted. “A legal battle?” I repeated. “Yes,” Mira said. “And not just any legal battle. Darius is employed in Grimclaw Holdings. They possess one of the most powerful legal teams in town.” I had a bitter laugh on my lips. “Of course they do.” Mira looked sympathetically at me. “You must have somebody stronger than they are,” she said. I frowned. “Is that even possible?” She did not respond on the spot. Rather, she was tapping her fingers on the table as though she was thinking. Then she said, “There may be one person.” I lifted my head. “Who?” Mira hesitated for a second. “Lucian Silverfang.” The name meant nothing to me. “Who is that?” I asked. Mira threw back her chair. “He is the Alpha CEO of Silverfang Pack Holdings,” she said. “An enormous law and corporation pack. Influential, brutal, and very powerful.” I raised an eyebrow. “And why would he help me?” Mira gave a small smile. “Because he hates Darius.” That caught my attention. “Hates him?” “Yes,” Mira said. “Their packs have been the competitors over years. Corporate takeovers, law suits, business battles, you name it.” I sat back and attempted to digest the thought. “You use his foe against him?” “Exactly.” I stared at the table again. It sounded tempting. There was something about it that I did not like. “I don’t know,” I said slowly. “This is dangerous, this, and this is a kick in the groin to Darius.” Mira shrugged. “He fucked Lila with that groin.” “Ouch.” I gasped and she smiled. Again she bent forward in a serious voice. “Selene, listen to me. We shall lose, should we go against Darius with an average lawyer. His legal team will crush us.” I swallowed hard. “And this Lucian Silverfang?” “Only he can compete toe-to-toe with them.” The room became quiet. I looked down at my hands. My mother’s herbal elixir distillery. The building. The formulas. The memories. Everything Darius had stolen of me. My heart contracted in anger. “I will not allow him to have it,” I said to myself. Mira nodded. “Then you need Silverfang.” I exhaled slowly. “What are we going to do, get in touch with somebody like that?” Mira smiled slightly. “Leave that part to me.” I looked up at her in surprise. “You may even manage to book an appointment.” “I have some acquaintances that work with his pack,” she answered. “Law school connections. One of them owes me a favor.” It was the first time that I had a flicker of hope. “You’re serious?” “Very.” She said. I sat up straighter. “Okay,” I said. “Let’s try.” Mira seized her phone. “I’ll start making calls.” The following two days were spent in waiting. Mira made numerous phone calls, messaged and even made some late-night calls. My heart skipped every time her phone was ringing. At last one afternoon, on the third, she entered the living room with a smile on her face. “Good news.” I quickly stood up. “You got the meeting?” She nodded. “Tomorrow morning. Ten o’clock.” I began to feel my heart beat quicker. “Where?” “Silverfang Pack Holdings headquarters.” I suddenly felt nervous. “What if he refuses to help me?” Mira crossed her arms. “Then we’ll find another plan.” I nodded slowly. But I could feel that there was no other good choice. I put on a good dressing the following morning. I took a plain black dress and pulled my hair. I wanted to appear professional, calm and confident—although my nerves were not calm at all. Mira brought me to the building. As the car pulled before the head office of Silverfang Pack Holdings, I was checking the tall glass tower before me. It was enormous. “You will be all right,” Mira replied. “I hope so.” Once I was in the building, the receptionist sent me to the first floor. My heart beat increased as the elevator was rising. This encounter might alter the whole situation. Upon opening the elevator doors, a secretary met me. “Miss Blackwood?” “Yes.” “This way, please.” She followed me along a long corridor until we came to a huge wooden door. “The Alpha CEO will see you now.” I nodded nervously. “Thank you.” She shut the door and stepped aside. I walked inside. The office was big and luxurious. The city was visible through floor-to-ceiling windows, and an enormous desk was located close to the middle of the room. Behind the desk sat a man. He was bending his head down over some papers and his black hair was a little falling over his forehead. “Miss Blackwood,” he said calmly. “Please, have a seat.” As soon as he raised his head, my whole body stopped. My breath caught in my throat. No. It couldn’t be. But it was. The man who was sitting in front of me was the same man of the full moon tavern, the powerful Alpha CEO of Silverfang Pack Holdings. The bed of that man which I had woken up in a few days ago. I felt heat rush to my face. I wanted to scream at my mind to run back. But I couldn’t. Not when he was like he was not remembering the night we spent. Maybe he didn’t. I had to walk and sit across the table, opposite him. I was keeping my face still, with stiff hands in my lap. My mind was racing within me. Of all the people in this city… Why did it have to be him? I drew myself straight and tried to make my voice steady. “Good morning, Mr. Silverfang.”Selene’s POV"Good morning, Mr. Silverfang." I repeated.I sounded calm, but I felt that my heart was beating too fast inside.Lucian Silverfang gazed over the big desk at me. His face was cold and indifferent, as though nothing out of the ordinary had occurred between us up till today."Good morning, Miss Blackwood," he answered in a polite way.No reaction. No recognition. Nothing. I thought a moment that he really did not remember me. Perhaps, that last night was nothing to him. Perhaps he had forgotten my features already.Or not! Funny that that should go through my head. I soon suppressed the feeling, however. I was not here on personal grounds. My mother’s legacy had come to see me.Lucian slightly leaned back in his chair."You requested this interview," he said, "and I give it to you. What can I help you with?"He spoke in a detached professional manner.I straightened in my seat."I started by saying my name, Selene Blackwood. My deceased mother had a company called Blackwoo

Selene’s POVI slowly awoke, and my head felt as though it were being hammered by some one. I did not know where I was at one moment. The room looked unfamiliar. The roof above my head was white and smooth, unlike that in my bedroom at the den. Then I heard the sound of running water. My eyes widened. The bathroom. The recollections of the previous night came back at once. The full moon tavern. The drinks. The stranger. The hotel room.My heart began to beat quicker.“Oh my God…” I whispered to myself.I hastily arose in the bed and glanced around the room. The door leading to the bathroom was closed and the water noise informed me that he was taking a shower.Panic filled my chest. What have I done?I leaped out of the bed and my naked feet came in contact with the cold floor. I glanced about, and I saw that there was a wardrobe close by the wall. I came to it and opened it blindly.Shirts and pants were neatly hung in the inside.I took the first white shirt that I came across, and
Selene’s POVI held on to the steering wheel when I drove out of the garage leaving Darius’s behind on the coffee table. The engine roared to life and I began driving, with no idea of where to go but this much I know, I do not want to be in there. The city lights had faded and I had still been thinking about the betrayal. Darius had impregnated some woman. Lila. And now after all all--my miscarriage last year, what the doctor said to me that I should never have a baby again. Was that why? had he recourse to her, that I might not have provided him with what he wanted? My eyes were stinging with tears, which I shook off. I needed to numb this. There was a neon sign, which attracted my attention: a full moon tavern with bass. Perfect. I parked and walked in and the heavy door shut me out of the world. The place was crowded and bodies were grinding on the dance floor but I had gone to the bar. I ordered a vodka, and another and another. The alcohol scalded my throat, and the feeling of th
Selene’s POV I was standing in the kitchen, checking and fixing things that neither need checking nor fixing. Four years. Four years ago Darius and I had sworn to love each other endlessly, even though that promise isn’t being fulfilled. I wanted tonight to matter. I wanted him to recollect as to why we fell in love, why we chose each other. Perhaps, perhaps, a bit of warmness might return to our cold and dying bond. The candles were burning with a gentle full moon glow on the neatly prepared dishes. I had prepared his favorite food, which was beef wellington and roasted vegetables and even baked a small chocolate cake. I did not think he would pick up the details but I wanted him to. I wished he would notice that I still cared. I glanced at the clock. Seven forty-five. At seven he should have been at the den. I attempted to convince myself that he was at work or that there was horrible traffic, or that there must be some reason. But the knot in my stomach would not be unloose
