LOGINLillian’s POV
He finally says it – what he has been holding back for the past three years. He is ashamed of me. He doesn’t want to marry me.
I wipe off the single tear that escapes my eyes and hold back the rest.
“Then why in the hell did you marry me?” My heart is crumpling apart, and my hand continues to bleed like my shattered heart, but I keep my voice firm and sharp.
His eyes hold mine as rage continues to form in his brown eyes, slowly turning them to golden brown with his wolf joining in. A low growl escapes his lips, spitting in disgust, “If I didn’t make the biggest mistake of marking you that night, I won’t be trapped in this tragic marriage!”
Eyes turning sharp, he lifts his hand and points a finger at me, continuing, “...All because of a false mate bond you orchestrated!”
My eyes widened. What? False mate? Orchestrated? What is he talking about? Is that how he sees it all this time? That I manipulate him?
“What are you talking about? Our bond is real! Our wolves are proof of it.”
“Stop pretending!” he shouts, making me jolt in shock. He is blazing with fire, eyes glaring at me. “Whatever trick you used, it wasn’t the mate bond, and I’m tired of all your stupid lies!”
He takes a step forward, eyes blazing as he leans down and coldly threatens me, “I won’t be so forgiving to you every single time.”
I look at him in utter disbelief, so much so that I am left speechless. Is that really how shallow he thinks I am? That I’ll bewitch him into marking and marrying him?
“Keegan, calm down. You’re scaring her,” Sienna tries to calm him down, pulling him back by his arm.
I watch her closely, as she does what I never manage to do – calm him down.
“Alpha!” Dominic, his Beta, rushes in the door, his loud call capturing our attention, and cuts off the chance of my heart breaking even more if I get confirmation.
Shifting his gaze to Dom, Keegan sneers, “What?”
Dom looks around us for a few seconds of silence, getting aware of the situation he is walking into, before he raises his tablet and gestures on it. “Alpha, something happened in the negotiations we are having with one of the pack’s companies. The board members want you to give them a call.”
Keegan nods his head. “Alright, I’ll be right there.”
Dom gives us all a look before he awkwardly bows his head in respect and sprints out of the house like his butt is on fire.
In any other circumstances, I’ll probably be laughing, but I’m too numb right now to feel any other emotions than pain, anger, and betrayal.
“Will you be alright alone? I’ll be quick.”
“Yes, of course. Do what you must. Work is important,” she replies supportively, even squeezing his arm.
I let out a mocking laugh at the sight of them. What a perfect couple.
I am his wife, and he is blatantly worrying about another woman right in front of me.
Walking away, he doesn’t even look back at me, but dares to order again, “Don’t forget to wash Sienna’s clothes and prepare her room. It better be done by the time I get back.”
He doesn’t give me the time to reply to him as he slams the door closed, leaving me there feeling like a piece of shit.
“Looks like you can’t even keep your husband wrapped around your fingers, Luna Lillian.”
My head snaps at Sienna; gone are all her facades. Her entire demeanor changes. Her innocent-looking face becomes cunning, her shy posture becomes confident, and her tearful eyes turn sharp.
Though she calls me Luna, it’s all out of mockery.
She continues, “Don’t think that because you became the Luna, you’ll rise from your lowlife self of an omega. Once a trash, will always be a trash, Lillian. Stick that through that thick, ambitious skull of yours.”
Facing her, I gesture to the closed door by tilting my head. “Now he’s gone, you’re finally showing your true colours, huh?”
Instead of replying, she approaches me and circles around me before standing in front of me with scrutiny in her eyes. “Your slutty worthless omega of a mother seemingly forgets to teach you her scunts way for Keegan to slip so easily from your grasp.”
Stepping closer, she adds after gesturing to my finger, “Do you really think that ring is enough to keep him yours? Tsk, tsk, tsk… Oh, Lillian, you still have a lot to learn.”
“Maybe next time ask your useless mom to–”
She doesn’t get to finish her next words as I explode with anger and raise my hand to teach her a lesson. With a controlled force, I swing my hand to slap her, but I probably underestimate the withheld anger within me because I exert more force than I intend, and her face swings to the other side as she falls to the ground.
“How is that possible?” I glance at my hand in surprise.
Reaching for something for support, she pulls the nearby chair alongside her, causing a loud thud.
With tears in her eyes and a supporting hand on her cheek, the front door opens and Keegan enters with a raging voice, “Have you gone mad, Lillian!”
He rushes to her side and panically examines her. Glaring at me while he protectively holds her, he curses, “You are far worse than I thought you were.”
“I–”
“What are you gawking at? Call a doctor!” his shout jolts me back from shock, and I shakily fish for my phone in my skirt’s pockets.
“Doc, I need you at our house ASAP. Someone is injured. She got her–”
My phone slips from my hand and falls to the floor when I look down at Sienna and find her clutching her stomach while blood drips between her legs.
Crying, she looks at Keegan with a begging expression. “Keegan, save our child. Please…”
Keegan’s POVThe silence that follows my outburst is deafening. The air in the small meeting room becomes so thick with my presence, especially with my wolf’s presence, that it changes the colour of my eyes. Dominance and power fill the air, so much so that Elder Rowan actually loosens his tie, gasping for a breath that doesn’t taste like my rage.My hand is still planted on the table, vibrating with the force of the growl that just ripped through my chest. For a moment, no one moves. Even Elder Mira, who usually has a retort for everything, looks pale, her lips pressed into a thin white line. For a long while, it seemed as if they got too used to seeing the incompetent version of me. The one who had tried to remain a diplomat to make up for all the mistakes that I have made. The version of me who is still broken and regretful of things that ruin my image as a husband. But they have forgotten that before all this, before being the man who starts chasing a ghost, I am the Alpha who ha
Keegan’s POVI stare at Richard when he comes into the room, looking better informed today than he was a few days back.Later, we learned that he went far beyond, even leaving his seclusion to gather more information by contacting other healers. There, he learns that there are the First Blood werewolves who are known to be blessed directly by the moon goddess.Technically, they have the blood of the ancient. The only remaining family from the first werewolves created by the moon goddess is known to be more powerful than the rest. They’re strength, instincts, and everything goes far more advanced than the rest, which explains how Lillian, who has a sleeping wolf, can still fight alongside the rest of the werewolves without shifting. Now, one can only imagine how powerful she will be once she gets her werewolf back and shifts.Hell, she’ll probably suppress me and Craig in the snap of a finger, even when we are Alphas.“This time, I’ll make sure the promise I make happens,” I whisper to
Lillian’s POVThe sunlight filtering through the curtains felt too bright for my weary eyes. It’s been like that for the past couple of days since I first had my fever, to which I’ll be honest, has been dragging me into hell.At first, my body continued to tremble with weakness. And I detest that feeling. But lately, the fever has started to subside a little. I’m not sure if it’s me getting better for real or if it’s my body getting accustomed to handling the heat.Nonetheless, I am thankful that I can finally stand. So, without further ado, I jump out of my bed and go straight to the shower like I have been reborn, and I celebrate it with a freshly changed, comfortable pair of clothes.“You know, you are the most stubborn person I have ever known!” She comments, leaning on the doorframe of my room, her arm crossed and disapproving eyes on me, as she watches me tie my hair in front of the mirror. She’s the first one to have seen me get up and leave my bed early this morning. She tried
Keegan’s POVSince Lillian’s eyes change colour into a glint of silver between their original rare shade of blue ones that’s almost purple, and the burning on her skin intensifies, the sky has been in turmoil. There’s been a storm and it hasn’t stopped since then. It feels like the world itself is holding its breath and waiting for the Blood Moon to rise. It’s been two days, and her fever is only getting worse, so we can barely sleep at night. She will usually tell me to go to sleep and rest in another room so I won’t be anxious and be sleepless like her, but I can’t. I’ll be so worried that I’ll probably just end up coming back in her room to check on her, and then changing rooms will be useless, so I might as well not start.Every night, I’ll stir from my nap beside her, my head resting on the edge of her bed, as I don’t want to pressure her with benign assumptions. But when I lie beside her, I’ll be awakened by her trembling. She’ll be whispering incoherent things, a lot of them, bu
Lillian’s POVIt looks like my fever isn’t subsiding anytime soon.My skin is burning, and I can feel like it is trying to shake me apart, even when I try to ignore it. Days blur together inside the walls of Craig’s territory. Or to be precise, in the small space of my house, since they barely let me do anything, and if I need a check-up, they’d rather have the doctors come here. The doctor says I have to take a rest. Maddox says I have to be patient. Keegan says nothing, but he’s always there, watching over me.In short, they all treat me like I’m fragile and leave me orders that are for my own good, but that only makes me feel weaker. So I stop listening to them and tell myself I can do training again. I know that my body just needs movement, and this will go away soon. So as soon as the sun rises, I step on the field just behind the house. I have the blades of frost crunching under my boots.Maddox tries to stop me. “Lillian, take a rest. Look at yourself, you cannot even stay on
Lillian’s POVThe journey back to Craig’s territory is filled with silence. Upon learning that I am here, Craig comes personally to pick us up. And Keegan, who saw us about to leave, immediately rushed over and invited himself in.His thick face and stubbornness are too much for us to just let him be. Besides, I’m already too exhausted to argue with him and Craig, even when he is Keegan’s uncle, will not win against him when he starts acting spoiled. So here we are, crumpled in this small car, the air between us carries too much of what’s unspoken—regret, exhaustion, and the ghosts of what we used to be.And Craig, always the sensitive one, reads the air immediately and keeps silent as well to give us time. And I guess, he must have ordered Maddox to do the same because she has kept her silence as well, which is unusual, as she never hides her annoyance towards Kegan.Meanwhile, I can feel Keegan looking at me occasionally. When we finally arrived at my house in Craig’s pack, we all g
