Lillian’s POV
He finally says it – what he has been holding back for the past three years. He is ashamed of me. He doesn’t want to marry me.
I wipe off the single tear that escapes my eyes and hold back the rest.
“Then why in the hell did you marry me?” My heart is crumpling apart, and my hand continues to bleed like my shattered heart, but I keep my voice firm and sharp.
His eyes hold mine as rage continues to form in his brown eyes, slowly turning them to golden brown with his wolf joining in. A low growl escapes his lips, spitting in disgust, “If I didn’t make the biggest mistake of marking you that night, I won’t be trapped in this tragic marriage!”
Eyes turning sharp, he lifts his hand and points a finger at me, continuing, “...All because of a false mate bond you orchestrated!”
My eyes widened. What? False mate? Orchestrated? What is he talking about? Is that how he sees it all this time? That I manipulate him?
“What are you talking about? Our bond is real! Our wolves are proof of it.”
“Stop pretending!” he shouts, making me jolt in shock. He is blazing with fire, eyes glaring at me. “Whatever trick you used, it wasn’t the mate bond, and I’m tired of all your stupid lies!”
He takes a step forward, eyes blazing as he leans down and coldly threatens me, “I won’t be so forgiving to you every single time.”
I look at him in utter disbelief, so much so that I am left speechless. Is that really how shallow he thinks I am? That I’ll bewitch him into marking and marrying him?
“Keegan, calm down. You’re scaring her,” Sienna tries to calm him down, pulling him back by his arm.
I watch closely, waiting to see if Sienna is someone who can do something I never manage to do – calm him down.
“Alpha!” Dominic, his Beta, rushes in the door, his loud call capturing our attention, and cuts off the chance of my heart breaking even more if I get confirmation.
Shifting his gaze to Dom, Keegan sneers, “What?”
Dom looks around us for a few seconds of silence, getting aware of the situation he is walking into, before he raises his tablet and gestures on it. “Alpha, something happened in the negotiations we are having with one of the pack’s companies. The board members want you to give them a call.”
Keegan nods his head. “Alright, I’ll be right there.”
Dom gives us all a look before he awkwardly bows his head in respect and sprints out of the house like his butt is on fire.
In any other circumstances, I’ll probably be laughing, but I’m too numb right now to feel any other emotions than pain, anger, and betrayal.
“Will you be alright alone? I’ll be quick.”
“Yes, of course. Do what you must. Work is important,” she replies supportively, even squeezing his arm.
I let out a mocking laugh at the sight of them. What a perfect couple.
I am his wife, and he is blatantly worrying about another woman right in front of me.
Walking away, he doesn’t even look back at me, but dares to order again, “Don’t forget to wash Sienna’s clothes and prepare her room. It better be done by the time I get back.”
He doesn’t give me the time to reply to him as he slams the door closed, leaving me there feeling like a piece of shit.
“Looks like you can’t even keep your husband wrapped around your fingers, Luna Lillian.”
My head snaps at Sienna; gone are all her facades. Her entire demeanor changes. Her innocent-looking face becomes cunning, her shy posture becomes confident, and her tearful eyes turn sharp.
Though she calls me Luna, it’s all out of mockery.
She continues, “Don’t think that because you became the Luna, you’ll rise from your lowlife self of an omega. Once a trash, will always be a trash, Lillian. Stick that through that thick, ambitious skull of yours.”
Facing her, I gesture to the closed door by tilting my head. “Now he’s gone, you’re finally showing your true colours, huh?”
Instead of replying, she approaches me and circles around me before standing in front of me with scrutiny in her eyes. “Your slutty worthless omega of a mother seemingly forgets to teach you her scunts way for Keegan to slip so easily from your grasp.”
Stepping closer, she adds after gesturing to my finger, “Do you really think that ring is enough to keep him yours? Tsk, tsk, tsk… Oh, Lillian, you still have a lot to learn.”
“Maybe next time ask your useless mom to–”
She doesn’t get to finish her next words as I explode with anger and raise my hand to teach her a lesson. With a controlled force, I swing my hand to slap her, but I probably underestimate the withheld anger within me because I exert more force than I intend, and her face swings to the other side as she falls to the ground.
“How is that possible?” I glance at my hand in surprise.
Reaching for something for support, she pulls the nearby chair alongside her, causing a loud thud.
With tears in her eyes and a supporting hand on her cheek, the front door opens and Keegan enters with a raging voice, “Have you gone mad, Lillian!”
He rushes to her side and panically examines her. Glaring at me while he protectively holds her, he curses, “You are far worse than I thought you were.”
“I–”
“What are you gawking at? Call a doctor!” his shout jolts me back from shock, and I shakily fish for my phone in my skirt’s pockets.
“Doc, I need you at our house ASAP. Someone is injured. She got her–”
My phone slips from my hand and falls to the floor when I look down at Sienna and find her clutching her stomach while blood drips between her legs.
Crying, she looks at Keegan with a begging expression. “Keegan, save our child. Please…”
Keegan’s POV“Somebody get the doctor!” Dom’s voice echoes in the room as footsteps start to come from every direction.I watch, frozen, while holding my crying pup in my arms.“Alpha!”“Alpha!”Dom shouts, trying to take my attention while his eyes shift in panic between me and Sienna, who is already crouching in pain and is being supported by him.I should be moving, I know. But I just can’t find any care within me to go and help her out. Before I can even move, a doctor arrives with his team, pushing a wheelchair that they guide her into.“Keegan…” Sienna looks up at me, hands raised with difficulty, and eyes looking at me with hopefulness, but I only look away, leaving her in disappointment as she’s been pushed out of the room and into the infirmary.Dom stays by my side.Feeling the look of judgment he is giving me, I sigh and nod at the door. “Go and supervise her treatment.”“You are not–”“Go,” I ordered firmly, interrupting his words. Zipping his lips and nodding his head, he
Keegan’s POVSilence fills the air for a few moments, every pair of eyes landing on me, waiting for my answer, where doubt and hesitation are only growing every passing second. They are all here, pushing me and expecting me to sacrifice everything for the sake of the pack that has taken my childhood away from me, all for this responsibility I didn’t choose and yet have to carry since I’m a pup.I’m not ungrateful or anything. It gives me power and authority to change things around me and make a difference, but it’s something that also cages me and limits me beyond expectations. As the ruler of an entire pack, I’m not even free to pursue the woman I love. How ironic is that?“Alpha!” someone shouts and slams their hands on the table, pulling me out of my trance. When I look up, all three of them are looking at me with that stern look full of judgment. If I am not the Alpha, I’ll bet everything that they’ll be already down here and smucking the wit out of me.The elder in the middle fir
Keegan’s POVI watch intently as the black Maybach car drives off out of the border and out of my sight. My heart is clenching, like it's being squeezed by tight hands, blood and life being squeezed out of it.“She and that newborn are now your responsibility. Your priority. Not me, and most definitely not us.”Her words puncture every bit of me, leaving me cold and stoned in my place. It is the biggest slap I have ever felt in my life.Suddenly, the sweetness and joy I felt last night is a bitter goodbye.“Leave her alone, son. We don’t need her.” I feel my mom’s hand on my shoulder, tapping it comfortingly, but her words contradict her actions because they only agitate me even more.Turning around, I glare at her. “When will you ever stop hurting her, Mom?”Her eyes widened in shock.“Cuz…” Evie calls out in shock as well.Pointing at her, I snapped, “And so are you.”Eyes shifting between them, I utter, “This goes for both of you. Don’t let me hear you saying anything bad about her
Lillian's POVThat hit like a sharp knife in my bleeding heart. I can’t even stand, and my throat feels like it is constricting, air being sucked out of my lungs.Everything… It’s all just too much for me to handle in one go.Suddenly, it’s so hard to come up with words and fight for myself, and all that manages to escape my lips are the pathetic whispers of words that can’t form a proper sentence. “I… I didn’t… It’s not–”My words are cut off by Maddox, who stands protectively in front of me, snapping on my behalf. “That’s enough!”As always, she doesn’t even fear whether Whitney is Alpha’s mother or Luna herself. A small, prideful smile forms within me. She’s really strong. Far stronger than me. Far stronger than what she takes credit for.“W-what? What did you say?” Whitney asks, looking dumbfoundedly at Maadox, who is far from being stopped.“If anything, you have to thank her!” Maddox shouts before pointing at me and gesturing to my bloody arms and the blood stains in my clothes
Lillian's POVIt’s his voice… The same gentle and coaxing voice that moaned my name last night. The same ones who betray and hurt me time and time again… The same one I thought I’d never give in to again. The same one I have betrayed my own principle for… only to get a reality check.I halt on my step, my spine burning cold, knowing he is probably looking at me while holding his pup and Sienna warmly.I whisper, not caring if he hears me or not. “This… This is why we can never be.”We will just end up hurting each other over and over again, and the same goes for Sienna and your pup. And the worst part is, I know I’ll always be the last priority. And being the second and third choice… Being treated as the last is just something I can never accept.Without turning around, I continue to walk out of the pack with one thing in mind. “Keegan… This will be the last.”This is the last time I’ll make a mistake. As I walk on the empty road that leads out to the border, coldness envelops me, my a
Lillian’s POVI look at her and feel something I think I’ll never experience in my entire life – I feel sorry for my rival in love.Wild-eyed and sobbing, Sienna keeps shaking her head. “I can’t… I can’t lose my pup!”Then… she looks up at me, looking like she momentarily forgets how much she hates me, and there’s begging in her eyes. “I can’t lose my pup! Please! D-don’t let me lose my pup!”Back then… If there’s someone with me, I’ll probably be like her. Begging for the life of my unborn pup, no matter who it is. Even if it is the one from our enemy line.Forcing a calm breathing and demeanour, I hold her arm and look at her firmly, which mimics the tone of my voice. “Listen to me.”“Sienna! Listen to me!” I repeat, trying to pull her away from her panic state and get her back to calmness.Stress will only increase her risk of losing her child.Squeezing her hand, I stare her down and use my commanding voice. “You’re strong enough. Focus on my voice.”Taking a deep breath, I let he
