Chapter 5

Author: Perfect Timing
Everyone whipped their heads around to see a middle-aged woman storming straight toward Patrick.

Before anyone could react, she charged onto the stage and snatched the microphone from his hand.

"Young man, are you delusional? Is this lottery ticket even yours? Yet you've got the guts to broadcast it live to the whole world?"

Then, she turned toward the cameras.

"Don't be fooled by him, everyone. He's just trying to use this gimmick to become some internet celebrity. Instead of putting his energy into something proper, he's resorting to tricks like this to scam people. I'm going to teach him a lesson today!"

Her words left the whole room stunned.

The livestream chat exploded.

[Wait, what's going on? I thought he won big.]

[So this guy was bluffing? And he dared to do it at a graduation party?]

[Don't tell me the whole class is in on this stunt.]

Snapping out of his shock, Patrick roared in anger, "Bullshit! I clearly won the lottery! Open your damn eyes and look at it!"

He wa

Finally, Patrick understood everything."So that's it... You knew when I bought that ticket but didn't stop me. You even pretended to buy a house to provoke me."All those loans I took out... It was you who reported the convenience store, wasn't it? And that woman who won the prize... You arranged for that too!"I only smiled, neither confirming nor denying that.Yes, I had orchestrated all of it.However, if Patrick had not been driven by his own greed, then no matter how careful my plan was, he would not have ever stepped into it.Suddenly, his phone rang. He picked it up.A woman's voice said, "Mr. Patrick York? This is a call from the bank. This is a reminder that the three million you borrowed is due in ten days."Patrick's face went deathly pale as he hung up. Immediately, another call came in.He shut his phone off in a panic."It's useless," I told him coldly. "Even if you turn it off, they'll still find you."Within days, Patrick was dragged to the police station fo

Patrick lunged at Emily, clawing wildly, screaming at the top of his lungs."You bitch! You said you loved me! That was all a lie. The only thing you've ever loved is money! You're just as responsible for the debt I owe! You're not running away from this!"His words earned him another resounding slap across the face. Then, as if struck by some desperate idea, Patrick collapsed to his knees in front of me, clutching at my pants."Oliver, please! I'm your best friend. We've been classmates since junior high. You can't just watch me die. I owe a few million dollars! Your family has two old apartments, right?"Can you sell one and help me pay it off? Please? Don't worry, I'll write you an IOU. Once I get a job, I'll pay you back, little by little."His plea only made me laugh. He wanted to use me as his scapegoat again? Did he really think I would be his fool for life?I crouched until our eyes were level.I gripped his chin tightly and whispered into his ear, "In our previous lif

Luckily, the police officer nearby reacted quickly and held him back.Patrick's eyes were bloodshot as he roared at me, shouting, "Oliver, what the hell is going on?! Why is this ticket fake? That's impossible! You bought yours from this same shop too!"The crowd buzzed with confusion."What does he mean? Oliver also bought a ticket?""Didn't hear him say that before.""Patrick looks like a complete clown now. Look at him now, all talk but no prize."The livestream comments lit up with mockery as well. That served him right. He had popped the champagne midway, boasting to everyone and laughing at others.Well, he was the biggest joke.Patrick thrashed violently, screaming at me in hysteria.I simply curled my lips into a cold smile, looking between him and Emily."Patrick, buying the lottery ticket was your own choice. I didn't hold a knife to your throat and force you to do that."Before I finished, Emily suddenly yanked at my wrist."Oliver, don't play innocent. Patrick

For a few seconds, the entire restaurant fell into frozen silence.Patrick's voice trembled. "What...what did you say?"The woman rolled her eyes. "I said the prize money has already been deposited into my bank account. You kept insisting mine was fake, that I'd been scammed. Well, tell me, what kind of scammer would give money to their victims?"As soon as the words left her mouth, Patrick staggered backward. The crowd around them gasped."No way! What's going on here?""She's already been paid the prize money. There's no way that's fake.""If she's real, then Patrick's..."Panic flashed across Patrick's face.Emily quickly grabbed his arm to steady him. "It's fine, Patrick. Don't listen to her nonsense. She's just bluffing. She's doing this for attention, to become some internet celebrity."Patrick's breathing slowed. He steadied himself again and snapped back, "That's right. You vicious woman. How dare you mess with me? Just you wait. I'll make your life worse than death."

Before the woman could even react, Patrick shoved her aside impatiently."Enough already. Get lost. You're just here to leech off the traffic from my livestream."Straightening his tailored suit with an exaggerated poise, he turned back to the camera."Everything's clear now. This woman bought her ticket from some no-name lottery shack in some backwater village. Obviously, she got scammed."His words did not spark relief among our classmates and lecturers. Instead, they looked regretful."That shop must've been run by a scammer.""Yeah, I know the lottery companies won't make mistakes like that.""Poor woman, she must've been cheated.""She probably didn't mean to cause trouble."The woman just stared blankly at her phone, dazed. Some classmates even went over to comfort her. However, I simply stood at the edge of the crowd, watching this whole farce coldly.Patrick, seeing that she still refused to leave, sneered."Come on, ma'am. Don't think just anyone can win 50 million
