Kira and Sonya were waiting for me when I went downstairs. As I came down, I heard the captain who told me the senator behind Maxim’s capture on the news. He was calling me a liar on air.

He said that I was arrested for drunk driving and then I manipulated the media into believing that they had kidnapped Maxim. He cited that it was a lie to cover up that Maxim was a gangster who had been taken by his enemies and his officers refused to help me.

I couldn’t help but shake my head. The man had just lied when he knew all the information I had on him. He had to be stupid for that. Either that, or he thought I had a moral compass.

“Are you okay?” Sonya asked.

“I am.”

Luckily, I was way ahead of it. The breaking news was interrupted by the arrest of his son with multiple counts of sexual assault and murder. While he was busy slandering me, there were officers in his home arresting his son.

“Wow…” Kira said.

“No one will remember what he said just now. They will remember that he used his conn

I paid a local crew to bring building supplies by boat. I hired a local man with a snowmobile to take me back and forth until the work was done. I bought a generator, a wood stove, and stocked food.I paid extra for privacy and comfort so I could settle in peace. I gave the old woman who gave me shelter money for her trouble. She didn’t want to take it at first, but I insisted.I told the broker to keep my name out of anything public. He used a holding company, a fake name on paper, nothing that would ping a system if someone tried to look me up. It cost more, but I didn’t care.I still had tens of millions to spare.I bought a new satellite phone, better quality, and no contract. I used it once to check my balances. Then I buried it behind the cabin in a tin box. I didn’t want to talk to anyone anyway.Supplies came by boat every few weeks. A young boy drove the snowmobile when the water froze. I gave him good money, enough to keep him from talking. I was being extra careful because

  • Don Maxim's Plaything   A New Place

The boat ride was very uncomfortable, but I was willing to endure it all to live the kind of life I knew I deserved. There wasn’t a bed and barely any food, and my tummy was protesting, but believe it or not, it wasn’t the longest I had gone without food. The boat ride took days, but I didn’t even know how many, and I didn’t ask. I want to talk to the crew so as not to raise any suspicion. I was scared and I was seasick. It wasn’t the kind of life I had normalized for a while, and it was all I could envision.Things were about to change, and I had to move with the times. The food was terrible, and I could barely eat.I stayed in the hold most of the time. When the crew came down, they brought old bread, canned fish, and water. I paid extra to one of them to tell me when we were close. He said they’d drop me near a nearby town that I didn’t know.I didn’t ask if that was legal because I knew that it wasn’t. But I would do anything to get a new life. When we got close, I climbed out ont

He looked impressed when he was talking about how far Livia would go to get away from me. If I didn’t know any better, I would say he was enjoying himself a little too much. He probably liked that I would never find her.“Or someone could sell her out like the FBI did, but I doubt she would make the same mistakes twice. She is the kind of person to learn from her mistakes. She would never allow someone to do her out twice.”I was frustrated when he was finished talking because he hadn’t given me any new information. It had been a waste of time to look for him and hope he would tell me anything. All he had done was remind me that I would never find someone who didn’t want to be found. How was that even helpful to me?“Please—”“I don’t know where she is. I am not lying to you. She told me she gave you what you need to take down Alfonso. She also made me promise to help you, so I will. I can’t help you find her, but I can help you destroy your enemy.”“You’re Italian. Why should I trust

“Technically, you’re not. You married Livia Brown, her fake identity. Her name is Ottavia Rossi. So, pipe down, soldier.” He said with the most smug smile that he could possibly have on his face. I wanted to hit him until I knocked his teeth out.And then we would see how widely he would be smiling afterwards. I almost lunged at him, but I caught myself before I made a mistake. He was the only one who knew where she was, and maybe he would agree to tell me if I assured him that I wasn’t going to hurt Livia.I was telling the truth. There was no way I would hurt her. She was the love of my life and the only woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I would never fumble her now that I knew she was trying to help me take down her father. The information she left me was gold. But that also didn’t mean she wouldn’t atone for her sins. It would take a lot for me to trust her, but it wasn’t impossible.“I just want to find her. She’s my woman, and I can’t bear to be apart from her. I

“I am going to find her. Don’t compare me to her pervert of a father. I have better chances of finding her than he does because he thinks all his children are obedient dogs. How much do you want to bet that she is not the only one who has wanted to escape him?”“He is a nightmare, and I think some of his children, if not all of them, probably feel the same. We need to find a weak link. Livia said she thought it was Salvatore, but I don’t think he is.”“Are you sure we can trust her? What if all of this is just another scheme so she can take us all down? She was with her family before she left. What if she went crawling back to them?” He asked, and they were all valid questions.I had trusted Livia all those years, and she seemed to have been lying to me for a long time. But there was something I could say confidently. It hadn’t cost me my empire to trust her. Yes, she caused at least two tragedies, but she solved one, and she never repeated her mistakes again. Most men who were with t

For the next week, we looked for Livia everywhere. There was no record of her or anyone with a similar name leaving Russia. There was not a single camera that picked up on where she was. There were cameras all over Moscow, and none could even locate her. We were all going crazy trying to find her. I felt like I was going crazy just thinking that she could have been taken by her father, who was a known pervert. For all I knew, he could have taken her and sold her off to a brothel or to the highest bidder. I wouldn’t put it past him to sell his daughter because he had already done it once, and he could easily do it twice.I tried to contact anyone she knew to tell me where she was, but nobody had seen her. She didn’t even bother to tell Mikhail goodbye. It must have been a last-minute plan. But if it was so last-minute, how had she executed it so well? She was long gone from Russia, and there was no way of telling where she could have gone. There was no way she could have gone to the U.
