Chapter 2

Author: Ivy
The next morning, before I could recover from the night's torture, several sturdy maids barged in and dragged me up to serve Elena.

"The Don said since Miss Ivy likes scrubbing floors on her knees, she can learn how to serve properly."

I was dragged to the master bedroom that used to be mine. Elena was leaning against the headboard having breakfast. She saw me and smirked.

Her gaze fell on my neck. I was wearing my mother's silver necklace. It wasn't expensive, but the pendant held her ashes.

"Ugh, that thing looks ominous. No wonder I had nightmares last night." Elena frowned and looked at the maid with disgust. "Throw it in the fireplace. Don't let it scare the baby."

"You dare!" I lunged to grab it back.

Two maids pinned me down. I watched helplessly as the necklace was thrown into the roaring fire.

"No!" I screamed. My heart burned with the flames.

Rage overwhelmed my reason. I broke free and slapped Elena hard across the face.

Smack.

Elena threw herself onto the carpet, clutching her stomach and screaming. "My stomach! Alex, help, my baby..."

Alexander rushed in. He shoved me aside without a word.

My lower back hit the corner of the table hard. I gasped in pain.

He saw the necklace burning in the fireplace. A flash of hesitation and pain crossed his eyes, but Elena's screams replaced it with coldness.

He picked Elena up. As he passed me, he looked at me like I was dead. "If anything happens to Elena or the child, I will bury you with them."

While the manor was in chaos and Alexander took Elena to the hospital, I escaped.

I had to contact Papa. Once I returned to my family, I would be safe.

I borrowed a phone from a passerby and dialed Papa's number with trembling fingers.

The line was dead.

Panic set in. I searched for news online. The results froze my blood—Alexander's family had acquired all my family's businesses overnight under the guise of a "merger."

My father was wanted by the police for "money laundering."

Impossible. This was Alexander's doing.

I ran into the police station.

"I want to report a crime! Alexander is illegally imprisoning me! He's framing my father!" I grabbed the chief's sleeve.

The chief turned around slowly, a cigar in his mouth. He looked at me with a smirk. "Princess, I think you're confused."

He took out his phone and dialed a number, his tone subservient. "Don Alexander, your fiancée is here. She looks... mentally unstable."

I stepped back in despair. Even the police were Alexander's puppets.

Half an hour later, Alexander's car pulled up.

He dragged me back to the car and took me to that hellish manor.

In the courtyard, he had his men drag in the passerby who lent me the phone.

"I don't like disobedience," Alexander said coldly. He waved his hand.

Snap.

Bones cracked. The man screamed in agony as his legs were broken.

Alexander squeezed my pale face, his voice terrifyingly gentle. "Ivy, this is the price of running. Next time, it will be your father's legs."

(Alexander's POV)My hand grasped empty air.My fingertips only brushed a piece of flying skirt hem—the cold touch of silk, fleeting."Ivy—!!"I lay on the railing, watching helplessly as that patch of white fell, like a shooting star, smashing into the rolling black waves. The white foam churned once and vanished instantly.I didn't even think before trying to jump after her."Don! You can't!"Several trusted men behind me hugged my legs tightly, pinning me to the ground."Let me go! She's down there! She's in the water! She's afraid of the cold!"I roared, struggled, and smashed my head against the ground until blood flowed."Go save her! Whoever brings her up, I'll give them the whole family!"The search and rescue lasted seven full days.I mobilized all the family's helicopters and speedboats, even threatening the local navy to block off the entire sea area.I turned the Sicilian sea upside down. But the sea took my bride away.Except for that crystal high heel washed ashore, there

(Ivy's POV)Gabriel was dead. His body was not far from me, dragged away by Alexander's men like trash.I didn't cry, nor did I scream. When Alexander carried me back to the castle, I was like a puppet with its power cut, letting the maids manipulate me.To cover the blood of Gabriel on my wedding dress, and to mask the pungent smell of blood, Alexander had me changed into a new custom-made wedding dress. This one was even more magnificent than the last, the skirt encrusted with three thousand crushed diamonds, so heavy I could barely stand. He also had them spray a large amount of perfume on me.The strong scent of roses mixed with the rusty smell of blood remaining on my skin was nauseating."Don't be afraid, Ivy."Alexander had changed into a clean black tailcoat and walked up to me. He squatted down and personally put the crystal-encrusted high heels on me.His palms were scalding hot, gripping my cold ankles tightly, as if afraid I would turn into smoke and vanish the next second.

They applied thick powder to my face, covering my pale complexion and eyes swollen from crying.According to family tradition, on the eve of the wedding, the groom must take the bride to the ancestral home on the mountaintop to offer incense to the spirits of past Godfathers.Alexander and I sat in the back of a bulletproof Lincoln. He wore a black suit today, his hair combed meticulously. Along the way, he held my hand tightly, his palm sweaty. He seemed nervous, yet excited, turning to look at me from time to time with a look of morbid satisfaction. The convoy traveled on the winding mountain road. On one side was a cliff face, on the other a precipice.Suddenly, a screech of brakes came from ahead.A heavy cement mixer truck rushed out from a side road without warning, smashing hard into the side of the lead car.Boom! The lead car was knocked flying, tumbling down t

(Ivy’s POV)I was back in the ancient castle in Sicily. This time, there was no luxurious master bedroom, no servants attending to me. Alexander took me directly to a room deep in the basement. It used to be an interrogation observation room. One wall was a huge one-way mirror, facing directly into the adjacent cell filled with torture instruments."Sit."Alexander sat on the leather sofa in the center of the room. On the coffee table in front of him lay the familiar tablet, connected to the wall's sound system. He swirled half a glass of red wine in his hand.I stood warily at the door. "What are you doing?""Don't you love him?" He lifted his eyelids coldly and pressed the play button. "Then listen to his voice carefully."After a buzz of electric current, a heart-wrenching scream suddenly erupted from the speakers."Ah—!!"It was Gabriel's voice.Followed by the crisp sound of breaking bones, the sound of a whip tearing flesh, and heavy, muffled groans."Stop it!!" I threw myself at

(Ivy’s POV)"Ivy!"An anxious cry broke the deadly silence.Gabriel pushed through the crowd and rushed over. He was still holding the bunch of holly he had just bought. The moment he saw Alexander, he froze, then immediately threw the flowers aside and shielded me with his body, regardless of the consequences."Don't touch her!"Gabriel's frame looked frail in front of these professional killers, but he didn't flinch, guarding me firmly.Alexander didn't even lift an eyelid. He just toyed absently with the reindeer figurine, glancing at Gabriel as if looking at trash."This is him?" Alexander chuckled lightly. "The doctor who took you from my bed?""Alexander, don't do anything rash!" I poked my head out from behind Gabriel, my voice trembling. "This is Norway! There are laws here! You can't...""Laws?" Alexander acted as if he had heard a joke.He raised his hand and snapped his fingers lightly.Four bodyguards moved instantly. Their speed was astonishing; before Gabriel could even t

(Ivy’s POV)We settled in a small town called Tromsø in northern Norway.Located within the Arctic Circle, the winter nights here in December seemed endless. But this was exactly what I needed. The wind and snow here could cover all tracks.Gabriel found a job at the town's community clinic. He no longer held the scalpel famous in the medical world but bandaged frostbitten fingers for local fishermen or prescribed cough syrup for children with colds.I lived in a red wooden house not far from the clinic.Every morning before Gabriel left, he would make the fire in the fireplace very strong. He knew I was afraid of the cold, afraid of the chill seeping into my bones."The aurora index is high today," he said to me while wrapping his scarf that morning. "If the weather is good tonight, I'll take you to the top of the mountain to see it."He leaned in, wanting to kiss my forehead, but paused, eventually just rubbing my hair with restraint."Wait for me to come back for fish soup."After h
