Chapter 1 Sight Restored, Husband Caught Cheating

Elora's POV

Three years after I went blind, my sight returned. It was a miracle.

As the blurry world around me sharpened into focus, I could barely hold back tears of joy. I rushed out of the bedroom to tell my husband the good news. But the sight that greeted me was almost unbearable.

"Oh, oh, yes, you're fucking me so good..."

A woman's shameless moans filled the room. I could see everything clearly: Chloe Hart on the couch with her legs spread wide, her face slack with pleasure as she took Daniel Mitchell inside her.

Daniel gripped her waist hard and drove up into her, every thrust making a filthy, wet sound.

"Ah, be gentle, it's too deep..." Chloe threw her head back, her full breasts bouncing. Her sweet voice made me sick.

Daniel was breathing hard. He cupped her breast and lowered his voice. "Keep it down. Elora will hear you."

"So what?" Chloe gave a sultry laugh and arched up to meet him. "Even if she hears, just tell her you're watching porn. She's never suspected a thing."

"Elora's blind, not fool." Daniel groaned as she tightened around him. He shoved her down onto the rug and took her hard from behind. "The noises you make are filthy."

"You don't like it?" Chloe writhed beneath him, arching shamelessly into every thrust.

"Of course I like it. You're going to be the death of me!"

The words exploded in my head, leaving my mind blank.

Daniel was my husband. The man I loved more than anything.

Three years ago, Daniel and I were in a car accident. I shielded him and injured my eyes.

He escaped with only minor injuries. My world went dark.

I still remembered waking up in the hospital. Daniel was at my bedside, holding my hand and crying like a little boy.

He made me a solemn promise. "Elora, even if you never see again, I'll always take care of you. I'll be your eyes."

I believed him, and for three years, he kept that promise.

He took me to every rehabilitation appointment. No matter how late his business dinners ran, he always came home and held me before bed.

Everyone said I was the luckiest woman in the world. Even after I went blind, my husband had stayed by my side.

Only now did I understand that my so-called luck was a joke.

And the woman riding him was Chloe. Three years earlier, her mother had fallen seriously ill, and her family couldn't pay the medical bills.

She'd been desperate enough to consider selling plasma to pay for her mother's treatment.

I was the one who felt sorry for her. I got her a job at the Mitchell Group.

I told Daniel she was smart, that if he gave her a chance, she'd do great.

She became his secretary. She thanked me and swore she'd repay me one day.

I never dreamed this was how she'd repay me!

Why them? How could it be them!

In that moment, three years of sweet memories turned to poison.

So many times, I'd heard panting from the couch while I napped. I'd even stepped barefoot in sticky, wet patches on the rug.

It wasn't that I never suspected anything. I asked Daniel about it. He said the sounds came from porn he watched to blow off stress.

And the wet spots on the rug? A drink he'd spilled.

And I'd actually felt sorry for him. I hated that he was under so much pressure at work, and I blamed myself for being blind, for not being able to be a real wife to him.

Nausea surged up from my stomach. I dug my nails into my palms and forced myself not to make a sound.

Blood welled up in my palms, but it didn't come close to the pain in my chest.

For three years, we'd relied on each other. More than 1,000 nights of whispered words in the dark had been real, and so had the way he cared for me.

Even after seeing something this ugly, part of me still hoped.

Had he just lost his head for a moment? Had Chloe seduced him?

If he admitted he was wrong, could we go back to the way things were?

But the sounds from the rug kept pounding at me. Skin slapped against skin. Their breaths came hard. Every sound shattered another lie I was telling myself.

As they shifted positions to continue, I reached out with a shaking hand and knocked over a glass on the dining table.

The glass hit the rug with a thud, and water splashed everywhere.

The two tangled bodies on the rug froze.

"What was that?" Daniel rolled off Chloe and grabbed a throw blanket to cover himself.

"Daniel, is that you?" I turned toward him and fought to keep my voice steady. "What are you doing home?"

Daniel stared into my eyes, probably checking my pupils.

Only when he was sure my gaze was as empty as ever did he relax.

"It's me, honey." He cleared his throat, and his voice went soft. "I just came home to grab a file. I'm heading right back to the office."

He got up and pulled on the clothes scattered across the floor, shooting Chloe a look. Then he came over, gently smoothed a hand over my hair, and straightened my shawl.

"I've got to get back to work, sweetheart. I'll bring you your favorite croissants tonight."

My nails dug deeper into my palms. I still couldn't accept it. This sweet, thoughtful man in front of me had been squeezing another woman's ass and pounding into her a minute ago.

Chloe bit her lip, jealousy and resentment flashing in her eyes. Still, all she could do was scramble into her clothes and slip out cautiously after Daniel.

The second the front door closed, I sank into a chair. The tears came without a sound.

The happier I'd been then, the more it hurt now.

But it was done. I couldn't let myself drown in the pain. I had to prepare for what came next.

My hands shook as I took out my phone. I had to take several deep breaths before I could calm down.

I called my friend and lawyer, Sophia Grant, and told her I was on my way to her firm.

Then I put on my sunglasses, grabbed my bag, and left the house alone.

At Sophia's firm, I stopped outside her office and knocked twice.

Sophia was poring over a case file. When she looked up and saw me standing there alone, she jumped to her feet.

"Elora, you came by yourself? If Daniel finds out you went out alone, he's going to be so mad!"

She hurried over to take my arm.

But I pushed her hand away, reached behind me, and locked the office door.

I walked to her desk, pulled out the chair across from hers, sat down, and took off my sunglasses.

"Sophia, I can see again."

Sophia sank back into her chair and stared at me. A few seconds later, she screamed.

"Oh my God, Elora, you can see? You can really see? That's amazing. Daniel's going to be so..."

I cut her off. "Sophia, I need you to draw up divorce papers."

"How did you know?""The airline account you used is linked to my email," Daniel explained. "I was checking my inbox and saw the itinerary. That's how I found out."While I was blind, Daniel had set up many of my online accounts. Now that we were separating, I'd forgotten to unlink them from his email.I didn't want to explain, so I brushed him off. "Something came up. I need to get there early.""Can I at least drive you to the airport tomorrow?" Daniel asked.I turned him dow

Once he decided he could accept it, he turned the page and picked up a pen to sign. But when he got to the second page, he suddenly stopped."Both parties acknowledge that this agreement creates no obligation to remarry or resume cohabitation. Any future reconciliation shall be each party's independent decision."Daniel read the clause aloud. Then he looked up at me, confused."Elora, what's this supposed to mean? Didn't we agree we'd talk about that once things with the baby were settled?"I was about to answer, but Chloe beat me to it."Daniel..."

"Open it."I took the box and opened it.Resting on the velvet was a custom-made fountain pen, solid black and pleasantly heavy."An early divorce gift." Alexander held my gaze.
