My head snaps in the direction of the deep voice, so cold and commanding.

Mr. Linch lets go of my arm and takes a step back from me. He transforms into a jovial man so quickly, "Mr. Conti, you just walked into a little misunderstanding." He turns to me and says, "You are free to leave Alexa."

I stumble a step back but my shock at seeing the hottest man alive makes it hard for me to control my body. I take in a deep breath and let it out, breaking the spell I’m under.

Something about Mr. Conti screams danger, yet at the same time, I feel drawn to him. Maybe it’s because he just saved me from a potentially horrible situation. This time, I don’t think I would have been able to dissuade Mr. Linch’s advances.

I walk towards the door, hoping to get out of this office as quickly as possible, worried I might cry. Mr. Conti has a cold, neutral expression on his face that gives away nothing as I pass him, but it feels like there is an impenetrable force field around him.

He has a power radiating from him that makes him seem completely untouchable.

Tony is at the door waiting for me. He alternates between looking towards me with a kind expression and looking at Mr. Finch in absolute anger. Once I reach the door, he puts his arm around my shoulders and pulls me through, closing the door behind us.

"I can't believe that bastard did that!" he rages. "I was gone for 5 minutes. He is shameless."

He leads me towards my desk and sits me in my chair. He disappears for a moment and comes back with a black coffee for me. He also has a Coffee Crisp, my favorite chocolate bar. I smile at him and accept the offerings.

I gratefully eat the chocolate, knowing full well that I’m going into shock, and it will help keep me calm.

"Tony, how am I going to last 9 more months?" I ask, desperately.

"I am going to come with you to report this to HR," he says, rubbing his hand along my back to comfort me.

"None of my previous reports have resulted in anything other than Mr. Linch being more of a dick for a few days," I point out uselessly.

"We'll tell them that it happened in front of Mr. Conti and that he was not pleased with the display. Something like that can risk whatever deal they are working on," Tony says reasonably.

"I don't want to use someone's name to help me."

"Then take out Mr. Conti's name and just says it was a major prospective client."

I nod and say, "Okay, let me drink this coffee and relax a bit before we go. I don't want to cry, and I think I am still in a bit of shock."

Tony goes back to his desk, but I can tell he’s keeping an eye on me. I slowly relax and feel more and more comfortable with Tony's plan. He's right, I can't let an incident of this magnitude go by unreported.

We expected the meeting to last at least 30 minutes, but Mr. Conti walks out after 10 minutes. His demeanor hasn't changed, but he looks towards me and says, "Grab your stuff, we're leaving."

"I can't leave," I say, a bit confused, "I work until 5."

"You are getting a paid week off. I'm going to walk you out."

He says it with such authority that I don’t question him. Who am I to turn down a week of paid time off? I grab my purse and phone and walk around my desk to stand beside Mr. Conti.

Being this close to him gives me goosebumps. I can feel Tony’s eyes on me, watching my reaction, but I keep my head forward. I don’t know why I’m feeling this way around Mr. Conti and I know Tony will want answers I don’t have.

Mr. Linch bristles and says, "Mr. Conti this really isn't necessary. It was all a misunderstanding. I know we should have been better at staying professional at work, but Alexa and I have a more personal relationship."

My head whips up to look at Mr. Finch, "No, we don't. I have made it clear on many occasions that I wish only to have a professional relationship with you. I will be reporting today's incident to HR just like the other times."

"Not necessary," Mr. Conti says, "You no longer work here."

He walks out the door and towards the elevators, forcing me to run after him to catch up and get some clarification. I get to him just in time to get on the elevator together.

I had been so thrown off by his last statement, that I didn’t stop to think about being alone with him in an elevator. It feels dangerous, but I don’t know why. I feel an attraction to him that I’ve never felt to anyone else.

Sure, he’s handsome, but it’s more than just that. There is something powerful in his presence that makes me want to know what he’s thinking. It makes me wish he would talk more, instead of the few short sentences of command I’d heard so far.

However, as we traveled down to the main floor, my panic at not having a job was growing. It overwhelmed my nerves and finally forced me to talk.

"Mr. Conti, I can't quit this job. My contract makes it next to impossible. I won't be able to pay off the relocation f*e, and I'm here on a work visa…"

Mr. Conti raises his hand to stop me, calmly saying, "Don't worry, all of that will be sorted. Just enjoy your week off and report to work at this address next week."

He hands me a card, then steps off the elevator and walks away without another word. I’m left standing in the elevator completely shocked and am only spurred into action when the doors start to close. I get off the elevator just in time to see Mr. Conti get into the back of a car. Of course, he has a driver.

I walk home in a daze and take time to register everything that happened this morning. Am I dreaming, or did all that just happen?

Firstly, Mr. Conti is the best-looking man I have ever seen. If not for the harassment situation, I'm sure that is what Tony and I would have been discussing for the rest of the day and over drinks later.

He has beautiful green eyes, dark wavy hair and perfectly tanned olive skin. He's tall with broad shoulders that were perfectly framed by his suit. Even when he looked at me with cold disinterest, there was an intensity in his gaze that made me feel like he could see everything.

He seems like a man who is never not alert. Guessing by how much secrecy and respect the man had in our office, I assume he is a very successful businessman.

Once I’m home, I spend some time googling the new company I’ll be working for to find that Mr. Conti is the CEO of Ombra. It’s a relatively young company with massive success.

There isn’t much information about him available on the internet, which only makes me more intrigued.

Who are you Cassio Conti?

  • Don't Love Me   Tea Time

Today, I'm allowed outside the bedroom for the first time. The guards came to the room without Valentina, which, at first, had me worried. She usually hated letting them interact with me.They untied me from the bed and instructed me to wear a robe. I appreciated the little bit of modesty. A bath robe like this thin silk one, would have made me feel very bare before, but now it is like wearing a parka. Compared to the see-through, lacy lingerie, it was downright conservative. The house was richly decorated, but you could tell it hadn't been in use for years based on the dated furnishings and the dusty smell. I wondered if we were in an out-of-fashion neighbourhood. It was a shame that a house this large and beautiful was left empty when there were so many families in need of a home.I was taken down a flight of stairs to a sitting room where Valentina was enjoying a morning tea. She was dressed impeccably in a cream cashmere sweater, tucked into cream slacks. Her red hair in a perfect

She smiles demurely and says, "Oh, you know I don't get involved in that kind of thing. Best to leave it to the men. I'm happy to support you all by making sure you're fed and rested.I smile back like we're close friends again and say, "Allegra, I know you're more capable than that, and you see everything that happens in the house. Is there anyone that's been looking suspicious to you?""Cass, you know women only survive in this world if they know how to stay quiet," she says, pretending to be nervous."The door is shut, this room is soundproof and you know I can keep a secret," I say, hinting at our affair. It does the trick. She says, "Look, ever since Christmas, Constantine has been different. Not just with me, with the business as well. He's been trying to clean up the illegal aspects and distancing himself from them. Kind of like how you did in Chicago. I don't know why the sudden shift, but there are a lot of people who don't want the illegal side of things to end. That's where

  • Don't Love Me   Digging for Leads

I swipe my hand across the table, knocking a crystal vase onto the ground. The sound of it shattering gives me a momentary feeling of relief before the agony rises to the surface again."That's not good enough!" I yell, and I can see that Constantine is trying to be patient with me. He normally doesn't tolerate being treated like this and my tantrums have been incrementally increasing over the past two weeks without Alexa.I'm in hell knowing that she's with Valentina. She was finally starting to get over what happened the first time and now she's right back there, only this time we can't find her."Calm down," Constantine says, waving off the guards in the room. I know he's struggling with the guilt of her being taken from his own house, he'd even let it go when I punched him a couple of times."It's been two weeks, and we don't have a clue where she is!" I rage."We know she's no longer in the city of New York, which means she's probably being hidden in the suburbs somewhere in New

  • Don't Love Me   Focused on the Positives

Valentina came back early that day and watched a movie with me. She sat behind me with me between her legs and held me in her arms. It was an intimate position that felt extra vulnerable because I couldn't see her. She would periodically caress my hair or arm and it would give me shivers. Not the good kind. For the next week, the days pass slowly in a similar pattern. Valentina bathes me and stays with me for breakfast and joins me later in the day for a movie and then dinner. During meals, I try to keep the conversation fun so that she lets her guard down with me.Mostly, I keep learning of the horrors of her upbringing. She talked about each of her brothers and their particular tastes in the bedroom. I was absolutely horrified. If I made it out of this alive, I wouldn't even want her punished. I would want her to live comfortably in a good psychiatric facility where she could get help and some peace.I felt we had spent long enough establishing a routine that, during dinner one even

  • Don't Love Me   On a Mission

Breakfast is waiting for us at the table and I'm a little unnerved that I didn't hear anyone come in during my bath. It leaves me feeling exposed. We go to the same places as yesterday and we both have the same dish of one poached egg and avocado in front of us. After sharing two meals with Valentina, I'm starting to wonder if she maybe has an eating disorder, because this definitely isn't enough food for one full meal.I'm already starving from only eating a salad yesterday, so I decide I need to invoke Cass's name in the hopes of getting more food."Could I possibly get some toast with breakfast?" I ask. Trying to ask nicely first."I don't eat carbs," she responds, like it's the most reasonable response."Cass and I eat carbs every morning, it's good for brain activity," I explain. She looks up at me suspiciously, then asks, "And you let him decide what you eat? That seems a little controlling. I'll have to talk to him about it."I hold back my laughter at the irony of the situatio

  • Don't Love Me   The Name of the Game

I eventually fell into a fitful sleep. For hours, I had nightmare after nightmare until I was finally exhausted enough to fall into a deep dreamless sleep.I wake up to a gentle stroking of my hair and I know it's Valentina. I try to keep my breathing steady so I can pretend I'm still sleeping. I'm hoping she just wants to watch me sleep and that she'll get bored and leave soon enough. However, after what feels like forever, I finally pretend to wake up.I open my eyes to see her leaning over me. I wonder briefly if this is going to be in my next nightmare. She smiles such a loving smile that you would never know she was crazy."Good morning, sweetheart," she says.I can't bring myself to respond, so I just smile. Her eyes light up at my response, thankfully telling me it's enough."I thought you might want to clean up a bit today," she says thoughtfully. "I've run a bath for you, and I'll help you wash."I don't relish the thought of having her present while I wash, but it's been a c

  • Don't Love Me   Security Threat

It's a couple of weeks until Christmas, and I'm actually looking forward to returning home for the holidays. With Alexa by my side, my last visit was somewhat enjoyable, and I only see that improving as she gets more comfortable around my family. That being said, I'm still keeping the visit brief.
