Gwen POV:

My heart was still hammering frantically against my ribs. The distance between us was so close that a slight tilt of my chin would have brushed the tip of my nose against his. I stood frozen, eyes wide as I stared into those fathomless, obsidian irises locked onto mine, accidentally catching the razor-sharp edge of vigilance that had just flickered across them.

Before reason could even form a question, a loud noise from the doorway shattered the heavy, leaden silence.

Gwen’s POVI froze in place. A sudden, suffocating tightness seized my chest, squeezing the air right out of my lungs. It wasn't until the roar of a passing motorcycle ripped through the quiet roadside that I snapped back to reality.I swallowed hard, forcing my tense facial muscles to relax. Blinking rapidly, I managed to carve a strained, brittle smile onto my face. "It's nothing..."I pretended to brush an invisible speck of dust from my jacket, carefully avoiding the screen of his phone."I'm just starving, that's all," I blurted out, my voice laced with fake urgency. "We'd better hurry, or the guys will eat everything before we even get there!"Without waiting for Ashton's reaction, I spun on my heel and took long, brisk strides toward Lucas and Mr. Kenneth, who were standing a short distance away, loudly debating where to eat. Beneath the sweltering midday sun, my thin field shirt felt heavy, soaked with sweat, and plastered against my clammy skin.Lunch at the cramped BBQ joint

I stood frozen, eyes wide as I stared into those fathomless, obsidian irises locked onto mine, accidentally catching the razor-sharp edge of vigilance that had just flickered across them. Before reason could even form a question, a loud noise from the doorway shattered the heavy, leaden silence."Hey, Gwen! The window-squeegees, I put them... Oh?!"Lucas's booming voice cut off mid-sentence. He had just stepped inside, gripping a brand-new broom, but the sight that met his eyes caused his jaw to drop into a perfect O, his eyes bulging as if he couldn't trust his own senses. That sudden appearance was like a bucket of ice water splashing straight into reality.I jolted, panicked, and shoved hard against Ashton’s chest with all my might, stumbling backward. Moving too hastily, my heel caught the edge of

  • Don't Wake The White Wolf   Chapter 32: The Slip and the Skipping Heartbeat

Gwen POV:My eyes locked onto his. I couldn't believe it—what on earth was he doing in this God-forsaken corner? The fleeting moment of bewilderment made me completely forget that this guy was serving the exact same punishment. As our skin accidentally brushed, the heat radiating between us triggered an instant spike of adrenaline, sending a sharp jolt straight up my spine. I jerked my hand back immediately, dodging the high-voltage contact—whether it was deliberate or just an accident, I had no clue."You should only fill that bucket halfway instead of hauling it to the brim. You can barely carry it as it is, and keep straining like that, you're going to snap your wrist before you know it."Ashton’s voice sounded almost concerned, but it carried the distinct edge of a mockery. Before I could pull my wits together, I was left completely speechless, swallowing hard over and over. A sudden, creeping chill traveled down my spine at being left alone with the guy whose very presence automa

  • Don't Wake The White Wolf   Chapter 31: Nominal Jokes and Isolated Truths

Gwen POV:"Be my girlfriend"—it sounded like nothing more than a sick joke. It carried more than enough weight to bruise anyone's self-esteem if the person saying it didn't mean a single word of it.Yet, looking at that unsettlingly serious expression on Chris's face, I couldn't for the life of me guess what kind of game he was playing. This was insane... or was it just another performance? He stared at me without blinking. That unsettling composure made it impossible to tell where the truth ended and the lie began. That calm demeanor was precisely what made him so infuriating. It gave even the most absurd words the unsettling illusion of having been meticulously calculated beforehand. If I hadn't seen right through the plotting hidden beneath that polished facade, I probably would have fallen for it.My chest tightened as if someone were squeezing the air right out of me. The annoyance that had just begun to subside instantly flared back into a blazing fire. The mere presence of Chri

Gwen POV:A long, dragging day melted away. My only salvation was tomorrow—Sunday, the day the school schedule finally loosened its grip.Just the thought of curling up in my quiet little corner to hide from the chaos made the corners of my lips curve upward. The blueprint for a day of absolute peace was already mapped out: cleaning, decorating, and cooking a genuinely good meal. Nothing beat molding a tiny apartment into the exact sanctuary I had spent so long yearning for.Lost in that comforting vision, I let out a soft chuckle until a familiar set of footsteps yanked me back to reality. Mr. Kenneth walked in, carrying the heavy, oppressive atmosphere that always accompanied the weekend homeroom briefing."Good morning, class!"He called out, his gaze sweeping across the room before hastily darting past my desk in the back of the fourth row. The guilty set of his shoulders told me he was still nursing some residual conscience over the inspection board incident the other day.I casua

  • Don't Wake The White Wolf   CHAPTER 29: RAGING FURY

Gwen POV:My eyes were bloodshot, glaring straight into the redhead's smug face. Giving zero damns about her cheap threat, I took a deep breath, my chest heaving as I choked back the words to expose that bastard Chris's sick joke. Before I could spit out a single syllable, that arrogant prick beat me to it.Chris lowered his voice. The exact second he did, a heavy, suffocating pressure—a thick wave of male cologne laced with crisp citrus and spicy clove—slammed straight into my nose. My chest seized up out of nowhere. That nauseous, suffocating feeling from lately flared up again, making me curse the damn aftereffects of tumbling into that sewage pond. His gaze swept the area cold as a razor, radiating an overpowering authority that forced the surrounding crowd to instantly shrink, shoulders hunching and necks pulling in from pure terror. His hair-trigger, reckless temper, long his trademark, made him roar without a single shred of hesitation, his gravelly pitch sharp enough to slice
