Chapter 1

Fighting back the swelling ache in my throat, I finished my food in silence and retreated to my room.

My chest throbbed uncontrollably, and hot tears pricked my eyes.

But before I could even dig out my allergy medicine, my door was kicked open.

Jaxon stood in the doorway, arms crossed, looking utterly impatient.

"Whip me up some stimulant potions. Hurry up, I need them for tomorrow."

Suppressing the rising itch of my allergy symptoms, I desperately wanted to say no.

But I knew Jaxon's explosive temper. If I refused, he would definitely throw a massive fit.

I could only give a weak nod. "Okay."

At that exact moment, Wyatt strolled over, sounding just as entitled.

"If you're making his, you're making mine, too. I want top-tier sleeping potions. Don't slack off."

The preparation processes for these two specific potions are not only complex but actively clash with each other. It would take at least a full day and night of non-stop work.

I tried to reason with him. "Then wait until tomorrow..."

"No!" Wyatt snapped, glaring at me. "Why do you have to make Jaxon's first? Are you doing this on purpose so I lose to him?"

The allergic reaction was sapping my strength, leaving me with almost no energy to argue.

Right then, our mother, Corrine, heard the commotion and hurried over.

She shot me a sharp, disapproving glare. "It's just a potion, Harper. Why did you have to say no? Or are you actively trying to make your brothers fight?"

"You know we've always been fair to them."

Staring at the room full of accusing eyes, a bitter laugh bubbled up in my throat.

It turned out that fairness in this family was entirely situational.

When resources were divided, Jaxon and Wyatt got fairness.

When it was time to shoulder the blame, fairness suddenly landed squarely on me.

I didn't waste another breath. I crouched down in silence, gathered a basket of herbs, and headed down to the basement.

I stayed up for over ten hours straight to finish brewing them.

My vision began to tunnel—a telltale sign of a blood sugar crash from starving.

I forced myself up the stairs and staggered into the living room to grab a glass of warm water.

Only to walk in on Mom beaming as Jaxon and Wyatt shared a fresh batch of cookies she had just baked.

They had each taken half. Not a single crumb was left.

My dad, Silas, caught sight of me. A brief flicker of awkwardness crossed his face, but he quickly masked it.

"We know you don't like sweets, so we didn't save you any."

I forced a stiff smile.

"I love sweets, Dad."

Dad froze for a heartbeat, but only a heartbeat.

With Wyatt impatiently rushing him, he brushed past me and replied over his shoulder.

As his footsteps faded, my composure finally cracked.

My hands clenched into tight fists at my sides, my chest feeling like it was being pierced by a hundred needles.

After finally settling my stomach with some bland food and water, I headed back to my room to crash.

Instead, I opened the door to find my room crammed with random workout equipment.

There was so much junk that there wasn't even an inch of floor space left.

Jaxon's heavy dumbbells were sitting brazenly right on my desk.

My brain buzzed with static.

I couldn't stop myself from glancing back toward the living room, which was still echoing with laughter.

Mom just happened to glance my way.

In that split second, I knew for a fact she saw my embarrassment and sheer helplessness.

But she just offered a dismissive glance and turned her attention back to the boys.

This was far from the first time something like this had happened.

After hanging up, I sat in my quiet lab, feeling a tiny prickle of annoyance. To ensure they had absolutely zero leverage over me, I spent the entire night running a brutal audit of my childhood. I calculated the exact cost of my basic rations, my minimal clothing, and standard pack fees. The final total was so appallingly low I actually laughed out loud. Just under eight thousand dollars. For twenty-five years of existence. I temporarily unblocked my parents on the mind-link and methodically read the itemized bill to my mother. When I finished, the link was dead silent before my mother whispered, "Harper... why are you doing this?" My father's gruff voice chimed in, sounding bewildered. "There is no way it's that low." I leaned back in my chair, staring at the ceiling. "I'm just following the standard you set." "My entire life, you two obsessed over absolute fairness. You split every resource perfectly down the middle—but my name was never on the ledger." "I didn't undercut

All the color drained from Corrine's face. A high-pitched ringing pierced her ears, and a cold sweat broke out across her spine. "What did you just say?" The Guild Master looked deeply uncomfortable. "With all due respect, Luna, you should be fully aware. The Alpha personally signed her Pack Secession Agreement." Corrine's initial reflex was to scream that he was lying, that it was impossible—but a terrifying memory suddenly surfaced. She instantly mind-linked Silas. When Silas heard the words, the memory slammed into him like a freight train. The afternoon he demanded she surrender her business assets to the twins. She had handed him a document. A document he gleefully signed without even glancing at the header. Corrine's legs buckled slightly as the truth set in. She stammered, her voice thin and reedy. "Master... please tell me... exactly when did she file that paperwork?" The Guild Master gently recited the date. The final puzzle piece clicked into place. Corrine sque

Wyatt had completely collapsed. The guards rushed him to the pack's elite healing ward in record time. After running rapid diagnostic spells and blood tests, the Head Healer approached Silas and Corrine, his expression grim. "It's an acute strain of Lycan blood degradation." "He requires a massive, immediate blood transfusion. And it must come from an immediate, biologically matched family member." At the word transfusion, Jaxon recoiled, his face draining of all color. He instinctively threw his hands up and backed toward the exit. "No. Absolutely not." The Healer blinked at him. "You are his identical twin. Your biology is a near-perfect mirror." "His organs are shutting down. We need you in the chair right now." Corrine lunged forward, grabbing Jaxon's wrist in a panic. "Jaxon, please. It's just a little blood. He's your other half." Jaxon violently ripped his arm from her grip, his eyes wild. "Why? Why should I have to suffer for him? That is not fair!" Listening to

The room was gutted. Every single item belonging to Harper was gone. The heavy storage trunks she used for her clothes and botanical supplies were wiped totally clean. Even her unique, subtle scent had almost entirely dissipated from the stagnant air. The horrific truth finally slammed into Corrine and Silas. Harper hadn't returned to the estate after the birthday blowout. She had been gone for days. A cold, heavy knot of pure dread settled in Corrine's stomach. Her hands shaking violently, she reached out through the pack mind-link, desperate to locate her daughter. Harper! Where the hell are you?! You ran away from your own pack over a petty argument?! Silas stood frozen, his face darkening like a storm cloud. He didn't speak, just chewed brutally on the end of his unlit cigar. The mind-link returned a dead, hollow static. Corrine's eyes widened. She had been completely blocked. True panic set in. She grabbed Silas's forearm, her nails biting into his sleeve. "Silas,

(Corrine's POV)Thanks to the absolute trainwreck of a party, vicious rumors regarding the toxic dynamic among the Crescent Ridge siblings ripped through the pack. The Elders Council officially hauled Corrine and Silas in for a stern reprimand about their blatant favoritism. "A pack's survival hinges on unity," the Head Elder had warned. Corrine was mortified. Naturally, she channeled all her humiliation straight into rage toward Harper. Glaring down the hallway toward Harper's door, she intentionally projected her voice so it would carry. "Effective immediately, nobody in this house speaks a word to her." "Not until she crawls out here, admits what she did, and begs for our forgiveness." But the days bled together. The entire household treated that bedroom like a quarantined zone. Nobody knocked. Nobody checked in. And from inside that room, there was nothing but dead, heavy silence. Not a single footstep. Corrine's patience finally frayed. She cornered Silas in his study.

The polite applause died instantly, replaced by an icy, suffocating silence. The blood drained from my face. Wyatt wasn't finished. "None of you know this, but Harper's first shift was so pathetic she hid in her room crying for a week..." He spun a wildly exaggerated tale, hellbent on tearing down my dignity and turning me into the evening's entertainment. The truth was, the reason my first shift was delayed and weak was because that severe fever they ignored during my childhood had permanently damaged my early development. Surrounded by the guests' muffled snickers and pitying stares, my nails dug into my palms until they bled, and I finally screamed, "Shut your mouth!" Wyatt just scoffed. "Make me. You clearly love the attention, right? Let them hear the real story." He jutted his chin out defensively. "Why does Elder Thorne kiss up to you and ignore me? It's complete garbage." I realized he was just throwing a tantrum because my praise had slightly eclipsed his special nigh
