CHAPTER 3

ZANDER’s POV

I used to enjoy my alone mornings.

The silence. The routine. Waking up before everyone else, making my bed, and getting ready without anyone getting on my nerves.

The second I turned and opened my eyes, I saw a face and sighed.

Jayden Sinclair was my roommate.

His suitcase lay half open on the floor, clothes spilling out like he'd packed shoved random shit in it. One shoe sat by the door while the other had somehow ended up under my desk.

Unbelievable.

I sighed for the 100th time this morning as I bagan packing his stuffs from my side of the room, silently praying I pack everything without waking him up because I actually was not ready to start exchanging words with him this morning.

“FUCK!”

I shouted as a sharp metal pierced my legs. I looked down to see it was the belt buckle belonging to Jayden.

I cursed silently under my breath.

There was no way that hadn’t woken up him up.

“Can’t you shut your mouth for just 3 minutes and let me get a shut eye? He groaned.

I stared at him.

"Good morning to you too." He cracked one eye open before his gaze landed on the pile of clothes in my hands.

"What are you doing?" He looked at me like I was a creep.

"Cleaning up YOUR mess invading my side of the room."

Without another word, he snatched the clothes out of my hands and stuffed them back into his suitcase.

"Don't ever touch my shit again, Zander." He said in a cold tone.

I blinked.

"I wasn't trying stealing it."

"I don't care." He zipped the suitcase halfway before glaring at me. "Just don't touch my stuff."

I let out a quiet scoff.

"Trust me," I said, grabbing my backpack, "it definitely won't happen again." Reminding me that I wasn’t wrong about rich people. They’re all arrogant for no reason.

His jaw tightened. “Good”

I left the room for him knowing we had both agreed on something.

The universe must definitely be playing a game with us because, not only did Jayden and I didn't just share a dorm, it made us share our first class too.

“How flattering that Jayden also attends art class.”

I and Tristian took the empty seat by the window, hoping to enjoy at least one peaceful lesson because we both couldn’t stand rich AND arrogant people.

Jayden dropped into the seat directly behind me while Marcus sat beside him.

"You've got to be kidding me," I muttered to Tristian.

"What was that?" Jayden asked.

"He wasn't talking to you Jayden." Tristian answered before I could. “We don’t want you getting caught mingling with us ‘middle-class nobodies.’” He quoted.

Jayden frowned for a brief second. "The hell is that supposed to mean?"

"No idea," Marcus said with a shrug.

Tristian let out a humorless laugh. "The fact that you have to ask is hilarious."

Jayden looked between us for another second before rolling his eyes. "If you've got a problem, keep it. Doesn't concern me."

He leaned back in his chair, already done with the conversation.

Before Tristian could respond with a smart comment, the teacher walked into the classroom, bringing the conversation to an abrupt end. I was actually thankful because the tension between all four of us could bring the class down.

“Good morning class” The teacher started the lecture and I immediately blocked my ears from any sort of distraction. Even the ones beside me.

“Zander, would you mind telling the class why contrast is important in artwork?” The lecturer asked,

I answered without much thought.

"Excellent." I smiled as he dropped the comment. The lesson continued and a few minutes later, another question.

"Mr. Hades?"

I answered again.

From somewhere behind me, I heard Marcus whisper loudly enough for me to hear. "You know, Hades, you don't HAVE to answer every question. We get it. You're desperate for validation."

Jayden chuckled.

"Or maybe he's trying to become another teacher’s favorite by the end of first period."

The smile slipped from my face and my chest tightened.

“No.”

“Not again.” I whispered,

I pushed back my chair so quickly it scraped against the floor.

"Mr. Hades?" the teacher called.

"I... I need to use the restroom."

He nodded, and I was out the door before anyone could stop me.

I heard Tristian calling my name but I couldn’t answer him as I felt vomit at the back of my throat caused from those terrible memories.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” I said as I felt tears stinging my eyes, “These damn bastards can’t even let me catch a break this year?”

“Why did they have to remind me of everything I tried so hard to bury?” My hands already shaking as those memories tried to resurface.

I stared at my reflection, pulling myself together because I wasn’t going to let them drag me down again. I splashed water on my face and left a few minutes after I had reassured myself that the words they said would never affect me anymore.

 I left the bathroom.

JAYDEN's POVThe shared room was an absolute disaster zone of since cardboard boxes, discarded bubble wrap, and empty coffee cups were literally covering the whole room. Graduation was literally hours away, but standing in the middle of our bedroom, watching Zander lean to pack his stuffs…..the last thing on my mind was the actual ceremony. Was it how his cropped top would raise to tease me whenever he raised his arms to carry the boxes? Or how his arms would flex as he struggled with the zipper of our suitcases? Leaving his dark hair falling messy into his eyes.“Oh God….give me the strength to overcome the urge to just pounce on him right here and then. Lock the bedroom door, and forget the entire university assembly and graduation.” I paused as I thought of how overwhelming it was.It was getting harder and harder to keep my hands to myself these days, especially with the raw, quiet certainty that had settled between us ever since that afternoon at his family’s home, carving our in

ZANDER’s POVI slid my arm up his broad torso, my fingers resting gently over the steady, heavy beat of his heart as I pulled away from the hug.Jayden’s jaw was set tight, his dark eyes staring out the window at the afternoon. Even though we’d just spent the last few hours eating and talking about our new apartment, I could feel the invisible weight settling back onto his shoulders. Whatever shit was going on with him was really suffocating him in real time.“Hey.” I whispered softly, sliding my palm further up his chest until my hand rested against the warm side of his neck.Jayden blinked, coming back to reality. He looked down at me, his expression instantly softening as his hand came up to cover mine. “Yeah, art boy?”“Do you want to get out of the city for a bit?” I asked, searching his eyes. “Before we go back to campus for final evaluations and graduation.....I think you need to clear your thoughts. I want you to come home with me and spend the weekend. I want you to meet my m

JAYDEN’s POV“Now.” I murmured smoothly, catching his lower lip between my teeth for a brief, sharp bite before sitting up. “What are we eating?”Zander leaned back on his elbows, a breathless, flushed smile lingering on his lips as he pretended to think about it. “I want something heavy? I’m thinking Chinese takeout.“Done.” I said, pulling my phone from my pocket and placing the order before setting my phone downWhile we waited for the food, the atmosphere of the room settled into a comfortable calm. I rested on my bean bag, pulling Zander back against my chest, resting my chin on his dark hair. But despite the warmth of his body against mine, my mind kept drifting back to the email sitting on my laptop in the other room. The phone I had just placed down, buzzed violently against the tiles. The screen displayed a contact name: “ESTATE COUNSEL.”I took a slow, heavy breath before picking it up, sliding the bar to answer, and pressing the device to my ear. “Talk to me.” I gave Zander

JAYDEN’s POV“Hold on.” Zander grunted, my breathing still ragged as he lifted my head from the crook of my neck. The phone on the floor was vibrating incessantly, the sharp buzzing sound cutting through the thick, heavy tension lingering in the bedroom. Zander reached out with a trembling hand, grabbing the device and staring down at the glowing screen. His eyes widened and his flushed cheeks showing his cute dimples when he smiled slightly in surprise.“It's... it's my mom.” Zander breathed out, looking up at me through heavy, dark lashes.A slow, wicked smirk crept across my face. I shifted my weight, sitting back on my heels and extending an open palm toward him. “Give it to me.”Zander blinked, pulling the phone back slightly, his brow furrowing in instant suspicion. “What? Why? No Jayden, you're not—"“Let me talk to her.” I said smoothly, my voice now dripping with pure and unbothered confidence. “I told you I have a way with women. Let me show you how the charm works.”“Jayden

ZANDER’s POVThe heat in the new apartment’s bedroom was suffocating and squirming like a desperate slut.Jayden had me pinned beneath him on the rugged floor, his broad shoulders blocking out the sunlight, his mouth moving against mine with an intensity that made my head spin. Every kiss was deep, needy, possessive, and heavy, his tongue pushing pass my lips and desire. He kept kissing me like I was his favorite meal, specially made to be devoured just by him alone. My hands held onto his shoulders, my fingers digging into the fabric of his shirt as his weight pressed down on me. I could feel the hard and throbbing outline of his groin rubbing firmly against mine through our jeans. The thought of him pounding into me sent a sharp hot pulse of desire that shot straight to my brain. He trailed his lips down my jaw, pressing harsh, lingering kisses against the shell of my ear, down the exposed length of my neck, and onto my collarbone, making me arch off the flow with a ragged moan.My

JAYDEN’s POVI lay completely still, staring up at the ceiling with my fingers gently running through his soft hair. One of his arms was thrown over my waist, his face pressed into my chest, dark curls messily scattered across my collarbone. The threats from my father were still sitting at the back of my mind like a dark, suffocating storm waiting to swallow us whole. But looking down at Zander right now, listening to his soft breathing, all I could feel was warmth and peace of mind.“Zander.” I murmured softly, my hand sliding down to press gently into the small of his back. “Wake up, art boy.”Zander let out a small, quiet grumble, his fingers tightening in the fabric of my shirt as he pulled himself closer instead of opening his eyes. “Can’t you let me sleep for as long as I want?”A faint smirk touched my lips. “We have to go.”That made his long lashes finally flutter open. He blinked up at me through heavy, sleepy eyes, his brow furrowing slightly. “Go where? Classes don't start
