Xander turned, the blonde woman under him gasped and pulled the sheet over herself. I just stood there, frozen in place, remembering Jax and Tom together. This time around, this betrayal made me feel worse. My eyes blurred and I knew I was about to cry, but I wouldn't do that here, not in front of them.

I picked up my purse, “Kaia,” Xander called out as he got up from the woman and approached me.

I took a deep breath, calming myself down and smiled at him.

“Enjoy yourself Xander.” I said and turned around. As I walked further, the tears came flowing as I walked.

You handled that well kai. I told myself as I walked to my room. I wouldn't let this break me, no this time. We still hadn't caught whoever was trying to scare me, so I could still say my life was in danger.

That night, Xander didn’t come looking for me. Honestly, I wasn't expecting him to. The next morning, I showered, dressed for work, and left before he was even up.

That became the routine, we lived in the same house but didn’t speak. Ate at different times. Slept in different rooms. We passed each other like ghosts, like two people who used to know each other in a past life and had forgotten how it felt to care.

The silence was worse than the screaming would have been. Silence gives you space to think, and thinking, thinking will break you.

I buried myself in work, extending hours, volunteering for projects I didn’t care about. The office became my escape, the place where I could pretend things weren’t falling apart. I laughed when people spoke to me, nodded when needed.

The second time I caught Xander having sex with another was on a thursday.

I got home early because I left a file behind and had to return it. The driver dropped me off and I walked in, heels clicking against the marble floor, I called for him without even thinking.

He didn’t answer, then the scent hit me again. Same as before, same direction, same damn guest wing. I followed it, heart pounding but not with fear this time, with anger. I pushed the door open and there was my supposed husband on top of a different woman.

I didn’t drop my purse this time. I just turned and walked out.

By now, even the guards avoided looking me in the eye, the staff whispered when they thought I wasn’t listening. My skin crawled in that house, and I couldn’t sleep without locking my door. I was a prisoner inside a mansion, a wife on paper. Nothing more.

The third time broke something.

It was raining when I got home. I hadn’t bothered with an umbrella, soaked by the time I stepped through the door. I didn’t go looking this time. I didn’t need to. The moans echoed off the walls before I reached the stairs. The kind you can’t mistake.

I just stood there. Water dripping from my clothes, my hair plastered to my face, and I stared at the staircase.

I didn’t cry. I was too empty for that. What hurt wasn’t the cheating, not even the sex. It was that he knew it would break me, and he did it anyway. Over and over, with no remorse.

I went to my room, peeled off the wet clothes, wrapped myself in a towel, and sat on the floor until the sounds stopped.

Then I got up, walked to the closet, and pulled out my suitcase. It was time.

The next morning, I waited for him.

He walked into the kitchen in joggers and a t-shirt like nothing had happened. Like I wasn’t dying a little every day in front of him.

“We need to talk,” I said.

He didn’t look surprised, didn’t even sit. Just crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the fridge.

“I want to end the contract,” I said, voice flat.

  • Double the sin   On the same side

The news hit me like a punch to the gut. I didn’t wait, I grabbed my phone, keys, and bag, and ran.I didn’t care about the judgmental stares from coworkers or the way the receptionist blinked at me like she didn’t know what was happening. I had to get to him. He might have broken my heart, but this wasn’t just about love or betrayal anymore. This was about his life’s work, his reputation, everything he’d built. I couldn’t stand by and watch it crumble, not like this.My phone buzzed constantly as I sped through traffic. Texts, calls, news updates, it was all a blur. When I reached the building, the media was already camped outside. Cameras pointed at the entrance, reporters shouting over each other for a statement. I pushed past them, head down, heart pounding. The lobby was chaotic, assistants ran in and out of elevators. Phones rang nonstop. The usually pristine space felt like a battlefield.“Good afternoon,” I greeted the receptionist there. She seemed to have recognized me. “I'm

  • Double the sin   Someone from the office

Xander's POVThe drive to the office was silent, except for the low hum of the engine. My mind replayed Kaia’s words over and over, her voice cold and final. "I want to end the contract." I had stood there like a fool, unable to respond, and then I watched her leave, knowing I had pushed her to that point. When the call came from my secretary, I thought it would be a minor issue. But the urgency in her voice said otherwise. As soon as I stepped into the office building, I could feel the tension like a physical presence. Phones ringing off the hook, assistants scrambling from desk to desk, voices raised in hushed panic. People avoided my gaze or gave me tight, fake smiles. My secretary, Melissa, rushed to me, clutching a tablet with trembling hands. “Sur, someone leaked your private life, it's everywhere. Social media, blogs, news channels. And Kaia... they know she left you."She tapped the screen, showing headlines screaming things like:Billionaire Xander Kendricks Caught in Cheatin

  • Double the sin   Something is wrong

XANDER'S POV I want to end the contractSomething tightened in my chest as I heard it, I felt like the world shifted under my feet.I didn’t show it, I stood there, with my arms folded, leaning against the fridge like nothing she said could possibly affect me. But inside, it was like something cracked open. I nodded slowly, the weight of it settling in my chest. She turned and walked away without another word. I stood there for a long moment, unsure of what I was even thinking, or feeling.Kaia wanted out, and it made sense, God, it made sense. I had done everything in my power to push her away, and when that hadn’t worked, I took it further. I cheated on her although i knew how she felt when Jax cheated in her. It was punishment for something that wasn’t even her fault. All because I couldn’t bear the guilt that came with wanting her.Shit, I cursed the moment the front door slammed shut, and ran a hand through my hair. I paced the floor for half a second before bolting after her.

  • Double the sin   Back to work

The sun was already high by the time I opened my eyes. The silence in the room pressed in on me. I sat up slowly, the weight of last night still in my chest. I had waited last night, thinking Xander will come back and apologize or offer an explanation, but he never did. My honeymoon break was over, I wanted to tell Xander that I'll be resuming work today, since he wasn't here, I guess I'll just go without telling him. I stood up to take a shower and get dressed. Outside the bedroom, two of the house guards stood in the hallway, with straight like they always were.“Have you seen Xander?” I asked, trying to keep my voice even. One of them, the younger one with buzzed hair, exchanged a quick glance with the older man beside him before answering. “He said he needed to be alone.”I swallowed. “Did he say where he was going?”“No, ma’am.”I nodded, then turned. “Can someone take me to work?”Five minutes later, I was in the back of the car, with my eyes on the blur of the city as it ro

  • Double the sin   Slipping Away

That night was the beginning of something raw and animalistic. And for the next several days, that’s all we were, skin on skin, heat, breathless moans echoing through the walls. We did it everywhere, the kitchen counter, the stairs. We couldn’t stop, I didn’t want us to. It felt safer to give in to the physical than risk what was bubbling underneath. “You're trying to kill me,” I muttered one afternoon, sprawled out on the cold marble floor, catching my breath. Xander smirked, leaning over me, hair sticking to his forehead with sweat. “Then I’m doing something right.” “It’s not healthy,” I said, but even as I said it, I was reaching for him again. “Hm,” he murmured into my hair. I froze, it wasn’t the version of him I was used to. But the moment passed, and he was pulling me back under, lips on mine, hands everywhere. Today, I walked into the kitchen and found him shirtless, with his hair damp, standing over the stove like he belonged there. His toothbrush poked out of his m
