Countdowns-Morbius

Life is pain

There is no pain in death

I am the destroyer, the deliverer

I choose who lives and who dies

I am no God

I am a messenger of evil

There is no such thing as happily ever after

There is death,

There are no emotions

Its just me and my knives

They need me as I need them

They are all I will ever have

My mantra leaves my mouth smoothly just as it does every morning. Staring at my reflection there is no expression on my face. The scars tell their own story just as the demon that stares back out of my eyes. As I stare I don’t even blink. What would be the point?

Once my morning routine is done I do the essentials. The water I use as I wash myself would melt off the skin of others. No matter how hot it gets I will never be clean. I will never be pure. There is nothing in this life that I haven’t taken for myself. I know that today will be a day like any other day. A day that I kill. A day that I come home to wash away the blood on my hands. Just like every other night, the souls of the innocent will scream inside my head.

The neatness of my closet brings me joy. I whip the towel off of my hips and grab a pair of pants. I only own one kind. Ten sets of the same kind. There are pockets for all my weapons. There is nothing else needed. I cover my scarred chest with a black t-shirt. The fabric pulls tight across my skin and allows me the mobility I need to catch my prey. Not that its challenging.

I enjoy the quiet of my room as I start in on my knives. The Tungsten steel alloy of the blades gleams in my eyes as I cherish the reflects. The sharpest part of the blade gleams a bright yellow where I infused it with my scales. I sharpen it against another just like it and the sound is music to my ears. Sparks fly between the blades as they clash.

This is the one thing I am always meticulous about. My weapons have to be in perfect order. If not then it could mean my life. I may not have much of one but I know that I serve a purpose. Just as I sheath the last one in my neatly ordered belt, I see the light flash above my door. I rise to my feet eager for something to do.

Seeing that light flash could only mean one thing. All hands are on deck. That light flashing means that there is work to be done. More bodies to be brought in. Another mission for me to run. I brief second of surprise hits me when I open the metal door to my room. I had expected to see the Doctors other little foot soldiers running around. Instead however it’s the white coats as they rush to their labs. It must be something good if he has them assembling this early. I watch as one of them heads into the room where my favorite prisoner rots.

I try not to think of who else is currently occupying that cell with him. My mind has continued to stray in that direction way more than I would like. As the door opens and the white coat slips in, I get a whiff of her scent. Its almost like it hits right in the gut. I lean my back against the wall trying not to let it falter my steps. I had no idea that a smell could do so much to someone.

A part of me wants to go toward that smell but I know that I cant. Revealing the nature of what she is to me could end up making things a lot worse for her. She is already going to have to endure so much here in these labs. I don’t need to add extra on to it. Besides, they have been in there alone all night together. Who knows what has happened between them or what has been said. It would only be right if she ended up hating me at the end of all this. Being my mate doesn’t have to have anything to do with it.

Deciding that I need a good distraction, I flip my cell out of my pocket. He should be expecting my call and I know that he will have orders for me. He always has orders for me. The phone doesn’t even finish ringing once before his annoyed tone comes over the phone. Looks like I will be keeping this conversation short as always.

“Speak” he commands. I pinch the bridge of my nose in irritation at his tone. I know that he is always like this. As much as I do for him though, its about time he showed me some respect.

“What’s my part?” I ask him already bored. I do hope that its something good and that takes me far away from this place. Normally I treasure torturing the people who work here but today I just want the outdoors.

“Speed up the search for your kind. We are going to need more people to test the serum on. Soon enough we will have all the names of every dragon mate. Once the O serum is complete we will begin procedures. I need fresh bodies every day. It doesn’t matter where you get them from” He tells me.

I pause for a beat while I remember what the O serum is for. Deciding that nothing else needs to be said when he doesn’t continue, I end the call. A smile crosses my face as I think about the game of cat and mouse I will soon get to play. Chasing down someone who thinks they are smarter than you is always fun. It makes the catch well worth it.

A blonde nurse pauses as she comes around the corner. She eyes me wearily as I lean against the wall. I pierce her with my gaze and listen as the beat of her heart speeds up. Her skin flushes red and the scent of her fear quickly fills the air. I use my dragon speed to move fast as I kick a foot up to the wall blocking her path.

The scream that she lets loose is blood curdling and causes me to chuckle. Her entire body freezes as she watches the leg I have up not letting her pass. One of the piss ant white coats comes up behind her and grabs her arm. He throws an angry glance in my direction and I growl. His hand flies to his heart as his heart rate picks up to.

I gently lift my leg down from the wall. Just as they move to step past, I jump in front of them. “You should be more careful where you lay your gaze. Sometimes when you look a monster in the eye, they have no choice but to attack”. It is with that final warning to the new chick that I leave. I walk down in the direction of my favorite prisoner with a whistling tune. I cant help but to whistle even louder when I hear her burst into tears. This is going to be a very interesting morning indeed.

As I sneak into the room I immediately eaves drop on the conversation that is being had. The sound of my mates voice is a shock to my ears. The tone she is using is the only one that I have heard from her. She sure is an angry little thing.

“I have told you once but I will tell you again since you seem to be a bit dense. I am not going to answer that damn question” She screams.

“It’s a simple one miss. If I have to do the test myself then it is an invasion. If you would just simply tell me the answer, then there is no need for me to touch you” The doctor pleads.

“Fuck off” She shouts.

I finally decide to round the corner and make my presence known. My brother growls at me as I throw him a wink. The doctor holds up his hands in front of him as she wields one of the patient stools from the room. I almost laugh at how small she is compared to the doctor himself. I know that he could easily take the stool but it seems that he is restraining himself from being rough with her.

I decide for the moment to ignore them both as I walk over to the exam table. I pick up the clip board only to see the standard questionnaire that we try to give all prisoners. It looks like he hasn’t been able to get a single answer from her. Looks like she is to be sent to the lab in a just seven days. He would have had a week to run his test to get the answers he would need. This means that we will go ahead and add stubborn to the list of traits for my given mate.

The doctor takes another step toward her and she swings the stool in his direction. My brother pulls himself away from the wall as if he could get out of those chains to protect her. The good doctor turns red in the face and I know that he is about to loose his temper. I have no idea how I will react to someone touching my mate so I decide it’s a good point to intervene.

Stepping forward I walk right in between them and catch the stool with a hand just as she swings it at me. I shove it forward making her loose her balance before I snatch it away. She falls on her ass with an oomph as the doctor takes a step back. She looks up at me with a menacing glare as I allow my sense forward. I take a good long whiff of her scent as I stare into her chocolate brown eyes.

“Her name is Julia. She is not pregnant. It has been more than six weeks since she has been with a lover. Her blood type would be O positive. She more muscle than body fat, so her weight is around one hundred and fifty four pounds. She uses natural deodorant but puts products in her hair. She also has a thing for sweets” I state evenly.

I walk back to the good doctor and push the clip board into his chest. He fumbles as he takes it from me but immediately starts to write down what I said.

“Who the hell do you think you are?” She yells as she rises from the floor.

I chuckle at the way she looks. I can tell that she is already good and pissed. It would only be like minded to add fuel to the fire. Besides, mate or not, no one questions me. “I am your executioner. Depending upon how long I keep my deplorable temper in check is how long you live. When my temper is no longer in check, I haven’t decided if I will use a knife to cut your pretty little throat or if I will just let my dragon have you as a late night snack” I growl.

My words have the desired effect and I watch as she backs down in disgust or shock. I have no idea which emotion it is that I see on her face and nor do I care. She steps closer to my brother as she eyes me wearily. I watch as something flashes in her gaze as she looks at me. What she says next leaves me dumbfounded.

“You do know that normal people would have just answered with their name. I would get stuck with someone like you who has to take things to a whole other level. Just my rotten luck” She states as she folds her arms.

I blink at her audacity to speak to me that way. She is about to get the lesson of a life time if she thinks im going to let this go. Turning toward the good doctor who seems to be paying way to much attention to this interaction I shove him. “You have enough answers for the day. I think its time you leave before you see more blood than your code of honor like”. I warn him.
