The sun had already dragged itself halfway down the sky by the time I finally forced myself out of bed. My head vibrated with a heavy ache, the kind that clings after a night of dreams you don’t want to remember.

I didn’t dare think too much about them, about the silver eyes that baked me with heat, the other voice, dark and whispering my name like a secret promise.

I forced myself up, clutching the sketchpad I had forgotten on the table. The pencil lines on the page made me stop, not Damon. Anyway, just a pair of eyes, dark and stormy with faint glow, and another pair beside them, silver, sharp as blades. My hand shook. I slammed it shut before I looked longer.

“Get ready.” I muttered to myself, shoving it under my pillow. “ Pretend everything is normal.”

But nothing was normal. My wolf had not stopped pacing since the Moon Ceremony, a low, restless hum under my skin, like she was waiting for someone.

I dressed quietly, tugging on a loose sweater and pulling my hair into a messy

The house was too still. Still enough that I could hear my own heartbeat echo in my ears, a hollow thrum against the quiet. The locket at my throat pulsed faintly, warm where it lay against my skin, the hairline crack along its edge catching on my fingertip whenever I brushed it.I had been avoiding my mother’s eyes ever since the chapel. Her questions clung to me like smoke, but tonight I couldn’t escape. Not after what happened with Jace.“Don’t look away from me, Ivy,” my mother said softly, her voice like the snap of crumble leaves. “Tell me what he did.”I swallowed hard. “He… he touched me. Just my wrist.” My throat tightened around the rest, but I forced it out. “And the pain, it stopped. Like someone poured water over a fire. For a second, it was gone.”The air between us thickened, hot, suffocating. I could hear the faint click of the grandfather clock in the hall, each tick measuring out my guilt. I wanted to tell her I didn’t mean it like that, that I wasn’t spiraling in

The moment I pushed through the broken chapel gates, the air shifted. Heavy, like the kind of silence that only comes before a storm tears the sky apart. My wolf hummed under my skin, hackles raised though I hadn’t shifted yet. Every feeling in me screamed that Ivy was inside. And not alone. The bond yanked, a steel thread pulling tight around my chest. I didn’t need sight or sound to know that it was her fear that vibrated through the marrow of my bones.Gemma ghosted at my side, sharp and steady, her eyes already scanning the shadows for snipers or strays. Out of the corner of my vision, a shadow peeled away from the tree line, Rowan. He didn’t need orders. He flowed toward the chapel’s side wall, low and soundless, like he had been born from the stone itself. The crowd’s focus was on me and Kyle, but I could feel Rowan combing the edges, one step ahead of the danger I hadn’t yet seen. But Kyle was here too…Elder Kyle. I could smell him before I saw him, old ash and iron, the st

The old chapel loomed like a corpse propped against the horizon, its spire cracked, its bell eaten by rust.Every step I took toward it felt wrong, like the earth wanted to push me back. My boots sank in damp moss where stone had split, weeds curling through the bones of forgotten graves. The air was thick, metallic like old blood that had dried too many times and still clung to the walls.I didn’t want to be here. My body screamed for Damon, for the safety of his scent and the way his sigil burned against my wrist. But Jace’s voice had wrapped around my skull, whispering like smoke: Come to where you were bound. I’ll show you why you burn. That was the hook. Not even his threat and his claim. It was the why. Because every day, the locket cracked deeper, and every night the bond tugged harder, and no one, no one could tell me what my mother had done to me.The chapel doors groaned as I shoved them open. The sound went up my spine like a saw.The air inside the chapel was heavy , a

The war room stank of ink, sweat, and betrayal. Maps bled across the table, edges curling from candle heat, symbols scrawled in charcoal like wounds that wouldn’t close. Gemma’s voice cut through the silence, sharp as broken glass.“Elder Kyle isn’t just a protector,” she said, throwing down a packet of faded letters. Her silver eyes, so steady in every battlefield I would ever put her in, glared like twin moons now. “He was Kara’s handler. Their correspondence goes back fifteen years.”The name hit me like a blade across the ribs. Kara? A ghost I had buried under stone and rage. My pulse vault, teeth aching against the pull of my wolf who wanted to rip the name from the air itself.I forced my jaw tight. “Handler?”Gemma stabbed the page with her finger. “He transmits her senses, and sheltered her cell when the Council was sniffing around. And look at the date.” Her knuckle whitened. “The last letter? It mentions a ritual… The Severing Moon.”I rub the bridge of my nose, but it d

The locket burned hotter than skin should ever bear. I pressed it into my palm as I pushed open the door to our house, the old wood groaning in protest, as if it knew I was dragging a storm inside. My pulse was unsteady, rattling against my throat, caught somewhere between rage and the unshakable whisper of Damon’s sigil chased into my mind. His mark was the only thing keeping me from unraveling right there on the entrance..Mother was at the table. She always sat there when she pretended everything was fine, hands folded like some portrait of peace, face carefully composed into that mask she wore for the world. But the way her eyes flicked quick, guilty toward the chest near the hearth told me everything I needed to know.“You left it open,” I said, voice raw, sharp as the edge of a blade. Her hands stiffened, but she didn’t look at the chest again. “You shouldn’t be rifling through what you don’t understand, Ivy.”My laugh came out delicate and hollow. “Understand? You think I do

The inspector smelled of iron filings and smugness. That particular cocktail always curdled my temper. He was packing up his rune bowl and ledgers, already scribbling something across his parchment like Ivy’s fate was a neat equation solved in ink.I stepped into his shadow before he could cap the inkwell. “Your assessment,” I said, voice even almost bored. That always furious men like him more than growling. He didn’t flinch, but his fingers hesitated just long enough to prove I had him. “An anomaly was detected,” he answered, eyes sharp. “Protocol dictates she must be flagged for further inquiry.”I leaned against the table, slow and deliberate. My claws itched beneath my skin, but I kept my tone silky. “Protocol also dictates,” I murmured, “that anomalies must be verified by a second inspector within seventy two hours if the subject is under Luna's protection.”His brows twitched. He hadn’t expected me to know the old documents buried in the Tribunal’s scrolls. I did. I made it my
