Chapter 1

Henry's POV

It wasn't the first time I was left alone. After seeing every last guest out, I made a phone call.

"Does the deal we made ten years ago still stand?" I asked.

A soft laugh came from the other end. "Yes."

I hung up.

The news about Rachel Trent going on a rampage for the man she loved had already shot to the top of the trending searches.

She had ignored the auction rules, barged into the private room, paid 20 million dollars to take Clarence Spears away, and then proceeded to give every woman who had participated in the bidding a piece of her mind.

The comments section beneath the news articles was filled with people clamoring for gossip.

Every now and then, someone would point out that Rachel already had a fiance.

Those comments were quickly buried under replies like, "The unloved one is the real third wheel."

Clarence's latest post on social media appeared soon after.

It was captioned: "After three years of waiting, I finally got what I wanted today."

The photo showed clothes scattered across the floor, along with a used condom, and a sleeping Rachel in the background.

Unlike the previous 98 times, I didn't lose control or make a scene. I simply clicked on the like button and commented, "Congrats."

Less than half an hour later, Rachel called me.

"I finally managed to calm Clarence down, and you left that snide comment?

"I promise you, this is the last time. He won't pull something like this again."

I had lost count of how many times Rachel promised me it would be "the last time".

At our first wedding, Clarence threatened suicide.

At our second, he pretended to leave the country.

At our third, he threw a wad of cash in my face and told me to leave Rachel.

Every time, he found some new way to cause trouble, and every time, Rachel chose to indulge him.

Her only explanation to me was always, "This is the last time."

Yet, somehow, the next time always came right on schedule.

I had finally come to my senses. There was nothing sincere about the promises that came out of this woman's mouth, and there was no place for me in her heart.

Thus, I simply said, "There won't be a next time. We're done."

There was a long silence on the other end, and then she hung up.

When I went home, I discovered that the locks had already been changed.

I was just about to call a locksmith when the door opened.

Clarence stood there leaning against the doorframe, wrapped in a towel from the waist down. Two scratch marks crossed his chest.

"Rachel was worried about me being out there alone, so she asked me to stay for a while. Oh, I guess she didn't tell you."

As soon as he finished speaking, Rachel walked over in a revealing nightdress.

Her neck and collarbone were covered in hickeys.

"Clarence is still pretty shaken up, so I'm letting him stay for a while," she explained. "I was worried he'd forget the old door code, so I changed it to his birthday."

I nodded and stepped inside, walking past her.

When she saw me pull out a suitcase, panic flashed across her face.

"Where are you going?"

Henry's POV"Don't worry. I've made sure Clarence paid for everything he did. He'll never bother us again. Please, just give me one more chance."Also, I wasn't the one who posted those videos of you. Clarence was behind that."Henry, I've spent two whole months looking for you. Have you been okay? I miss you so much. It wasn't until after you left that I finally realized how horribly wrong I'd been."I shook my head and looked at Rachel calmly."Rachel, it's too late. I gave you 99 chances, and you threw every single one of them away."Rachel stared at me stubbornly, her voice full of bitterness."Henry, I know I broke your heart. What will it take for you to forgive me? Whatever it is, I'll do it."Oh. Are you angry because I hit you? You can hit me back."With that, she began slapping herself while repeatedly apologizing. But no matter how emotional she became, I felt absolutely nothing."Rachel, after the 99th time you abandoned me for Clarence, there was never going to

Henry's POVWhile Rachel was tearing the world apart trying to find me, I'd already been in Fancer for a month. The person who pulled me out of the water that day was my childhood friend, Emily Chase. She had stayed by my side ever since. When she dragged me out of the ocean, her eyes were bloodshot, and there was unmistakable fear in her voice."Henry Murray, how could you be so stupid? Why would you throw your life away for someone who never deserved you?"Did you forget? I've always been right there behind you. All you had to do was turn around, and you'd see me."Emily brought me back to Fancer with her.Once she saw that I was gradually recovering, she handed me a thick folder.Inside was a list of all the assets she owned. She looked me straight in the eye and said, "I swear that in these ten years, I've never been with another man. Not once."Henry, you know that I've loved you since we were kids. I've never forgotten you, and I never forgot the promise we made ten ye

Third-Person POVBefore Clarence could finish, Rachel slapped him.Her expression was icy."You still have the nerve to say that you saved my life? Take a good look at this!"With that, she threw Henry's phone at Clarence. The moment Clarence saw the video, fear flashed across his face.He looked at Rachel and immediately put on the same helpless and pitiful expression he'd used so many times before."Rach, I can explain…""Explain? The evidence is right there! What is there to explain?"It's enough that you lied about being the person who saved my life, but why did you have to frame Henry too? Why did you create so many misunderstandings between us?"What about the phone call to my parents back then? Was that you too?"Clarence went pale. He immediately shook his head."Rachel, what are you talking about? What phone call? I don't understand what you're saying."But Rachel no longer believed a word he said. She ordered the bodyguards to seize him.Clarence had watched eve

Third-Person POVRachel's emotions settled down a little. She frowned and asked, "What is it?""It's about Mr. Spears. After looking into it, we discovered that the video about him that was posted online was actually uploaded from his own phone."Rachel instinctively denied it. "That can't be. Clarence is a good person. He'd never do something like that. Besides, what would he even gain from…"She stopped mid-sentence.She knew better than anyone what Clarence had to gain. It was to frame Henry and drive a wedge between them.Anger surged through her.But then, she remembered how Clarence had risked his life to pull her out of the rubble during the earthquake years ago. No matter how furious she was, she couldn't bring herself to get mad at him. After a heavy sigh, she instructed the bodyguard to continue searching for Henry. But the bodyguard wasn't done."Ms. Trent, that's not all we found. At the hospital, it was Mr. Spears who fell down the stairs himself. Mr. Murray neve

Third-Person POVClarence immediately retorted, "You've all been fooled by him. Henry is an expert at putting on an act. He's completely different behind closed doors. Rachel saw with her own eyes how he pushed me down the stairs."Rachel grew irritated. She got up and stepped onto the balcony for some air while instructing her assistant to find Henry's whereabouts.By the time all their friends had left, her assistant still had no news about Henry. An inexplicable sense of panic crept into her heart. She took out her phone to call him again. This time, the automated message told her that his phone was switched off.Clarence keenly noticed the irritation on Rachel's face. A flash of triumph appeared in his eyes."Mr. Murray is probably just throwing a tantrum. He must've found somewhere to hide so you'll worry about him."Rachel frowned and scoffed coldly."Does he think hiding will solve anything? Let him sulk! We'll see how long he can hide. I'm not going after him."That

If you just answer the phone, I'll let everything that's happened slide!"But all she heard was the automated message telling her that the line was unavailable.Unwilling to give up, she texted him."Henry, what are you trying to pull? I didn't post those videos, and I've already taken down all the news about you. What more do you want?"No matter how many messages she sent, it was like screaming into the void. There was no response.Just then, Clarence opened the door
