FIFTY

Cassie was scrolling through the resort's website on her phone trying to find a guide on fun experiences and it had all its offerings laid out like a smorgasbord of adventure. Kayaking, archery, horseback riding, hiking, rock climbing, couples' massage, wine tasting, stargazing tour, bonfire night with s'mores and so much more.

Just staring at it tickled her. She flipped round and showed Dom the list with a grin spreading across her face that made him immediately nervous.

FIFTY ONEShe instantly turned red and he burst out laughing. She looked drop dead gorgeous even though there was colour all over her face and Dom officially became a finished man. “How does a taste of your medicine feel, Princess?”His next attempt was somehow worse. He held it too far from the flame and the marshmallow just kind of... hardened without actually getting warm.By his fifth attempt, Cassie was laughing so hard she could barely breathe, tears streaming down her face while Dom glared at the marshmallow like it had personally wronged him."This is not funny," he said, watching his latest victim turn into a smoking mess."It's a little funny," Cassie said through her giggles. "Here, let me help you."She guided his hand, showing him exactly how to position the stick and how long to hold it over the flame. Together, they managed to get one perfectly golden marshmallow, and when they constructed their s'more, Dom ate it like he'd just accomplished something monumental. As th

She flipped round and showed Dom the list with a grin spreading across her face that made him immediately nervous."Don't," he said, already knowing exactly what she was thinking."Don't what?""Whatever you're about to suggest, no.""I haven't even said anything yet," Cassie said, her eyes bright with mischief. "We're doing all of them.""Absolutely not.""Why not? We're here. The weather is perfect and we already paid for the access." She set the phone down and crawled onto his lap where he was sitting on the cabin's deck. "Come on, Dom. When was the last time you just did things for fun?""Fun is a relative term," he s

FORTY NINE "I've been thinking,” Cassie said. They had just woken up and she was pulling out her yoga mat. “About?”“I have always wanted a small destination wedding.” Cassie had a dreamy smile on her face. “What do you want?”"I was thinking maybe somewhere neutral too. How about we do it in a small venue upstate? Somewhere beautiful but intimate.""Like the Catskills?""Actually, yes. There's a gorgeous property about an hour from here. It has a lake and gardens and a small chapel." Dom turned to face her in the hot water. "We could have a small ceremony with the few people in our circle.” "Certainly no Marcus. I don't want anyone turning over my gorgeous, gorgeous cake.”Dom burst out laughing and she joined him. "Of course no Marcus. He'd most probably be in jail by then so it even makes it easier.” They laughed some more and Dom ordered their breakfast. "Thank you for making me do this," she said, settling beside him."Thank you for listening when I said we needed it.""I

FORTY EIGHT“What do you think about a break?” Dom asked out of nowhere. They were sitting at the dinning, snacking on apples for lunch when he asked the question out of nowhere, making Cassie freeze. "You think we need a break?” Cassie asked carefully. “I think so… in the last month, we've been caught up in the revenge, the investigations and so many fights… maybe the tension is doing too much harm.”"So… what kind of break is on your mind?"Dom grinned. "It's weekend. Let's go somewhere far from here. Somewhere we can just be ourselves without all the weight of everything that's happened pressing down on us." He took her hand. "I need to know what it feels like to just be happy with you without fighting for anything.""Where would you want to go?""Somewhere beautiful and peaceful." Cassie smiled. "Somewhere that has nothing to do with revenge or business or family drama. So… The Hamptons?""It's too close to the city. I'd still feel the pull of it all." Cassie thought for a mom

The next morning, Dom woke up early and went to his office. Cassie met him there an hour later, sitting in front of his computer, his hand hovering over the mouse."Ready?" she asked.“Yes.."She held his hand and they clicked the mouse together. The emails sent simultaneously to the SEC and the Manhattan District Attorney's office. Each package contained the complete documentation of Marcus's crimes, the coverup by Gregory and Eleanor's statement. There was no going back now.For several hours, nothing happened and they went about their day, patiently waiting for Marcus to show up for a fight. But when Dom's phone rang three days later, it wasn't Marcus. It was his father's lawyer."Dom…”“Spencer…” “We got a complaint from the SEC, did you…?”“Yes, I did.” Dom cut him short before he even finished answering his question. “Oh… well then my client would like to arrange an immediate meeting to discuss."Dom hung up without responding.Within the next twenty four hours, Marcus had cal
