Chapter 246

Author: Love Berries
Her feelings for him clearly had never changed.

That realization darkened Aurora’s gaze.

No wonder Lucas had agreed to let Wendy move in.

So, it had all been planned from the start.

Thinking back, Aurora felt like a complete fool.

There was no such thing as a purely platonic relationship between a man and a woman.

That was something she now understood better than anyone.

Lucas shut the door and, seeing her hair still damp, reached for a towel. “Rora, lie down. I’ll help you dry it.”

“No need.”

Her voice was cold, and she didn’t even look at him, treating him like a stranger.

That was when Lucas knew for sure—something was seriously wrong.

She’d been angry when she came out of the bathroom, but now it was worse.

And it was all directed at him.

He wanted to explain.

“Rora, between me and her… we…”

“Stop,” Aurora cut him off. “I don’t want to hear it. I’m not curious about any of it.”

He stepped forward, trying to take her hand, but she pulled away faster than he could reach her.

"You…"Wendy had wanted to say more, but the moment her eyes met Lucas’ cold, unyielding expression, the words died in her throat. She knew he meant it. He was fully capable of following through on that threat.Whatever footing she once had here was gone. These days, Lucas only tolerated her because of her brother.Things between them weren’t what they used to be.It was exactly because she understood that, that Wendy chose to back down.“I get it. I won’t do it again,” she murmured, lowering her head. She had no choice but to retreat for now. This was still Ravenshore. If she caused a scene, her brother would never let her hear the end of it.Lucas let out a cold snort. “This is your last warning.”With that, he turned and headed back to the bedroom.Wendy stared at the mess left on the table. Her thoughts drifted to the wager she’d made with her brother and her hands slowly curled into fists. She wasn’t going to lose. She couldn’t afford to.Taking a deep breath, Wendy narrowed h

Even so, Aurora merely raised an eyebrow without saying a word.A part of her still had doubts—were these two putting on a show for her?But she didn’t call them out. She simply sat there, watching them trade words, silent and unreadable.Lucas glanced at her expression, that slight, amused curve of her lips, and suddenly felt unsure of himself.Even Wendy was thrown off. What was wrong with her today? Why wasn’t she reacting? She had been blatantly provoking her, and yet Aurora remained calm as ever? But Aurora acted like none of it mattered, quietly enjoying the mille-feuille pancake in front of her.Wendy asked hesitantly, “Aurora, you’re not saying anything… does that mean you agree with me?”Lucas shot her a warning look. He’d finally seen through Wendy lately—how restless she’d become. He had already warned her once, and yet she clearly hadn’t learned her lesson.Nervously, he turned back to Aurora, afraid she might be upset by Wendy’s words.“Rora, Wendy just talks without th

In an instant, her mood soured. So, Aurora was definitely on her way back—Lucas’ expression had already said it all.Wendy clenched her fists, a surge of frustration bubbling in her chest."Aurora Walton, you damn bitch. If you didn’t want to come back in the first place, then why return now? What’s the point? Do you think it’s fun to toy with people like this?"The curve of Lucas’s lips felt like a knife to Wendy’s eyes. She couldn’t understand him—after being strung along like that, how could he still look so happy?Lucas glanced at her, and clarity struck. Without hesitation, he said, “Go out for a bit tonight.”The words hit her like a thunderclap.Wendy pointed at herself, stunned. “Are you kicking me out?”Her voice cracked, thick with disbelief and hurt. After knowing him for so long, Lucas was really throwing her out over someone else?Just the thought of it made her chest tighten. She could barely breathe.Lucas frowned. “You’re an adult. You should have your own life, not sp

By the time she finally looked at her phone, half an hour had already passed.Aurora blinked in surprise at the two unread messages sitting quietly on her screen.“When are you coming back?”“I made your favorite mille-feuille pancake. Don’t be mad—come home and try it?”The messages were sent twenty-something minutes apart, but the last one had come through thirty minutes ago.Staring at them, Aurora couldn’t quite name the emotion that hit her—just that something deep inside her felt unexpectedly shaken. She had assumed Lucas would stay cold and distant, that this silent war between them would drag on until he finally gave up and went back to the woman he once loved. In truth, she’d been avoiding him these past few days. Avoiding the confrontation and reality. She didn’t want to know what Lucas was thinking or doing. Part of her had even been bracing herself for divorce papers to arrive. But now, seeing these messages, it dawned on her—was he not angry?Had he actually set his pride

She hadn’t expected that even with Aurora not at home, she still couldn’t get a chance to talk or connect with Lucas.Wendy was unwilling to give up. She followed him into the kitchen, her voice syrupy sweet as she asked, “Lukey, is there anything I can help you with?”“No. You should leave,” Lucas said without even looking up, fully focused on what he was doing.Wendy didn’t budge an inch. Acting as if it was a casual question, she asked, “Oh, Lukey, it’s been so long since I’ve tasted your cooking. Are you making this for me?”Only then did Lucas raise his head, his gaze chillingly cold.“Wait till there’s some left. This has nothing to do with you.”He went back to kneading the dough, preparing a mille-feuille pancake—Aurora’s favorite. It took time, which was why he’d gone straight to the kitchen after returning home. Still, he was barely managing to finish it in time.Wendy acted like she didn’t understand a word he’d said and remained in the kitchen, refusing to leave. She s

Over the past few days, everyone at the company could tell their boss was in a foul mood.During meetings, no one dared to even breathe too loudly. Every employee walked in on edge, nerves stretched thin.Even Desmond, who had just returned from Fortline, kept his mouth shut in front of Lucas. For all his authority as a special assistant, he knew exactly where the lines were drawn. And with a temper like Lucas’, it was obvious his sudden mood swings had everything to do with Aurora.Still, watching Lucas bury himself in work without saying a word, Desmond didn’t dare bring it up. When it came to marital problems, no one could step in—it was up to the couple to sort it out themselves. And just as Desmond had guessed, though Lucas looked focused on the documents in front of him, his mind kept drifting far from the office. What was Aurora doing right now?His grip on the file tightened at the thought. His jaw clenched, brows drawn. His mind was a mess, a tangle of frustration and unce

Tessa finally gave in, lowering her proud head. “I understand, Mom. I’ll handle it.”Aurora was a little surprised. She hadn’t expected Grace, who had always sided with Tessa, to actually scold her in front of her.But it all made sense now. People always prioritized their own interests. No matter the situation, nothing mattered more than personal gain. Once her interests were threatened, even someone like Tessa could be cast aside.Aurora set down her fork and turned to Grace. “Mom, I’m done. I’ll head back to my room and rest.”“Alright, go rest. Your health comes first.”Aurora gave a faint smile and said nothing more. But that calm, almost indifferent demeanor only made Tessa seethe with anger. Who would’ve thought Aurora had grown so arrogant?Grace didn’t miss the resentment flashing in Tessa’s eyes. A flicker of doubt crossed her mind. Had Tessa always been like this? There was something off—something two-faced about her lately.Grace offered a light warning. “Tessa, your

The fact that she even asked that question made it obvious—she was just waiting for something to go wrong, eager to swoop in and enjoy the fallout. With that attitude, there was no need to play nice anymore. People like her only got bolder the more you tolerated them, mistaking patience for fear. It was better to confront her head-on, let her know she wasn’t someone to be trifled with.As Aurora stared at the red light countdown in front of her, Lucas’ handsome face surfaced in her mind. Her grip on the steering wheel gradually tightened. So, did this man realize that Wendy was interested in him?And even knowing that, he still insisted on letting her stay in the house?Aurora took a deep breath. Sometimes, she really didn’t understand what went on in Lucas’ head. But now, it was becoming clearer—he was just hopelessly muddled. The two of them went about their own routines, coming and going separately. Occasionally, they would cross paths at home, but neither would speak to the o

"Alright, I got it."Aurora nodded, brushing it off like the matter had been settled. Her indifferent tone made something twist in Lucas’ chest. He felt wronged too—hurt even—but what could he say? He couldn't bring himself to lash out at her. All he could do was mutter a quiet, “Got it,” and turn to leave the room.Aurora let the towel fall from her hand as she stood there, deflated like a balloon with all the air let out.She had put on a strong front, but really, it was all for show. Her strength was nothing but a thin layer barely holding her together.Back in his room, Lucas didn’t feel much better. After everything they'd been through, no matter what he did or said, he still couldn’t get through to her.He tossed his phone onto the bed and pressed a hand to his forehead, feeling the weight of it all.Was their relationship really going to fall apart because of someone like Wendy? The thought alone left a bitter taste in his mouth.Still, the next morning, when he went to find
