Rylan's POV

Without knocking, I barge into the conference room where the meeting is being held. Heads turn toward me, eyes and mouths wide open in disbelief.

My presence thickens the tension in the room. Slowly, Beta Hale—whose hard voice I’ve been hearing from the hallway—stops talking, her gaze fixed on me.

I take a step closer. Everyone in the room, except Lucien, bows slightly—just enough to meet protocol. Of course, no one respects me here. The professors are one of the few who know about my place in the pack, so it's expected.

Lucien’s head is lowered. He's still seated, unaware of my presence. My chest tightens at the sight of my best friend looking like a shadow of himself.
