ISABELLA’S POVKnowing he had seen me naked multiple times didn't reduce the ache in my heart. This wasn't the best picture of me. What if that this version of me repulsed him? Reading his expression every now and then had always previously given me peace. But now, there was this storm in me.“Is—” His voice pulled me out of my thoughts. “Can I?” He repeated. As much as I wanted to refuse, I needed him to get through this bath so I nodded. I could feel his palm as they slid over my skin and my head tilted to the other side of the room in a bid to bit back the tears that stung my eyes. The silence in the room was as thick as a blanket. The anguish in my chest grew and soon my palms clutched into a fist, my nails digging into them. There was something clogging my throat. Something I needed to let out.“Do you hate me?” The words found their way out of my mouth and I blinked.“Is—” His voice was low and it had this slight terror. His palm cupped my chin as he slightly turned it toward

THIRD PERSON’S POVAlaric managed to remain calm all through the video interview but he really wasn't in the mood to converse. “We heard you recently got married, and this has raised an uproar amongst your fans. Would you love to tell us if that is true or not?” The blond lady dressed in red suit spoke from the other side.My lips tipped in a smile.“Yes. I’m married to the only woman I love.” She nodded for a while, her eyes landing back on the ipad she laid on her laps.“Someone here said she is the famous Phoenix. Her beautiful masterpieces are sold widely,” She went quiet for a second before proceeding. “And they wish to know if she will be the same person hosting the Art Gallery Opening in Alabama, next Friday.” Alaric’s heart skipped. His throat dry as a desert. The urge he had to talk endlessly about what she does and how proud of her he was ate him deep. But the fear of his wife’s current reality clutched his chest hard. His mind trailed to her, if she was fairing fine, if

ISABELLA’S POVUntil the words had slipped past my lips, I didn't realize how true my reality was and a million thoughts flooded my head. There was one that stood out like a warrior.Would he ever leave me if I were stuck this way?“Don’t say that, baby. Please don’t.” I could hear my husband saying as he kept his arm around me. His voice shook and being unable to tell what expression he had on was unbearable. The second his arms let me go, the void within me deepened. I could hear things moving but nothing came to mind. Being unsure of what could happen in the next minute was terrifying. She was silent now but I could hear his footsteps.“Babe—” I let out, afraid of the unknown.“I’m here, baby. I want to tuck Sunshine back in bed.” I squeezed my eyes shut as relief downed its rain on me the minute his voice flooded my ears. There was this hollow feeling embedded in my stomach from having to depend on someone to get things done. I don’t know how many minutes ticked by but soon h

THIRD PERSON POVCortical Blindness. The Doctor’s diagnosis rang in Isabella’s head once again as she stared at the blur, emptiness deep-rooted within her. The baby had taken her sight. Temporary or not, the doctor couldn't say how long this would last. The past hours had been the toughest of her life. Discomfort engulfed her, her heart was thumping so fast as she feared what lurked around her. She tried to picture an image of her face but not much popped up. Before now it never occurred to her to stare at herself regularly. “What if I never see again?” Alaric heard her say as he sat on the edge of the bed, worry in his eyes. She had not spoken a word since they left the hospital about an hour ago. He moved closer to her.“Don’t say that, Is. I believe—”“Trying to sweet-talk me won’t change the fact that everything is painted in a color now—” Her voice cracked. “The color of nothing.” His heart squeezed with pain. Above everything, he blamed himself for what he knew he had no po

ALARIC’S POV“We don’t do milkshakes,” I informed in a flat tone and watched Mr Brian raise a brow.“Not yet but the demand is high. I will suggest you think about it. I brought testers.” We were sitting in my office in Georgia. But we weren't alone. Two other people were here. Male and female, both in their twenties. The flight had stretched into hours and luckily he understood and was willing to wait. My company was the current big talk and anyone would be more than pleased for a chance to be a part of this. But milkshakes? That never crossed my mind.“We make cupcakes, Mr Brian. No milkshakes.” I repeated. My eyes followed him as he adjusted in his seat. “It will increase family orders and my city would definitely demand for more. I promise you massive sales.” My eyes searched his face as I could tell he was sincere. My secretary had said something about that too. That people were asking for something to pair our cupcakes with.“Fine. I will take a look.” His lips broke into

ALARIC’S POVOvernight, the smell of baby powder seemed to have heightened in the air. A scent I never thought I would come to accept wholeheartedly, and learn to love with everything that beat in my chest.Standing beside the crib, I stretched my arms to slowly let her small body fill my palms before cradling her to my chest.Would it be weird if I admitted that my body was shaking? Her body was so tiny. Too small that I feared I might crush her if I held her this way for too long. “Hey—slow down,” I muttered, rocking her gently amid her small cries. The way her small hands moved, her eyes glittered with tears. I checked her diaper a few minutes ago, and it was dry. Her sock was still on, so what could be the reason for her discomfort? My forehead formed a wrinkle. “Look, sunshine, I have no idea what I’m doing, alright? So be gentle on your Father.” My eyes are holding her grey ones. They are big and innocent. As though understanding me, her lips broke into what looked like a
