LOGINElara's POV
Divorce me. My throat tightened and I gasped as I stumbled backwards. He wasn't just planning on torturing me, he was planning on taking the little the Vale family left for me as the actual biological child.
The only thing I ever got from my family. I bit on my lips as I fought back my tears.
How have I havehave be en with such a man for years?
My control did nothing and tears rolled down my eyes as I broke into a silent sob. He wasn't just cheating, he was planning on leaving me, wrecked and destroyed.
“Ohhh,” Seraphina gushed from inside, “that's wonderful but what do you think,” I heard a grunt and I guess Seraphina moved away. “What if we make other plans, Lucien?”
“Anything,” my supposed husband drawled, “what are you suggesting, Sera. That woman stole 3 years of our supposed happiness, Sera. You have been too kind, I'm open to your options.”
“Elara that I'm aware of wouldn't let you go easily, she loves you, or perhaps your title, the image that comes with it. You know I shouldn't be saying this but…”
Silence reigned and I held my breath as I waited. Another word of destruction. To shatter every illusion that I've built. Another word for me to finally get the betrayal. Another word to destroy me.
“I think we should make her disappear.” The words hit like a blow.
Make me disappear. From where? From… the earth? trulyina reaevery word she said her words. She was back for her place, to take her claim and her plan was to make me… disappear.
I broke into another sob and ran my hand over my mouth to avoid being heard.
“What do you think?”
“Anything Seraphina,” Lucien added and I could swear my heart snapped, “do whatever you want.”
He agreed. He didn't even think twice. He didn't even know the kind of disappearance she meant and he… he just agreed. Tears spilled out of my eyes as I rested on the wall, my tears falling freely.
3 years. 3 years of emotional torture after surviving in the adoption centre. What made me choose that? What made me stay? The hope or satisfaction of being finally chosen? The feeling of finally having a family?
And this is how I end up as— a betrayed loser.
I palmed my face as I cried and I sniffed and for a second… that was too loud.
“Did you hear that?” Seraphina barely asked her question when Lucien's phone rang and his voice boomed. “What? My secretary is here?”
My eyes widened and my limbs froze. He is aware I'm at the hotel and… footsteps neared and I gasped as I picked at my heels.
They couldn't see me. I couldn't let them see me. I couldn't let them know I heard them. I quickened my steps, my eyes darting around until I found a door. I dashed towards it, pushing it open immediately.
Shutting it, I rested on it and just as I raised my head, I paused in my steps as I found him… the same man from the other day. The one who had helped me while I crashed to the floor.
“I'm sorry,” I gasped and rushed to the blinds. Peeping, I saw Seraphina and Lucien.
“She's here Lucien, I promise,” Seraphina stated, “I heard clicking of shoes. She's the one, Lucien.”
“Let's check.”
No. No. My lips trembled. I couldn't let them know I heard their plans. They … they would find ways to make me keep shut. They could hurt me, they were monsters. I couldn't let them find me.
“You—” the man in the room stepped forward and I rushed to him.
“Help me… please,” I looked to the window and saw the duo had reached the door, “they can't find me. I can't let them see me here.”
“What… what,” the man grabbed my arm, “what do you mean?”
“Let me hide here, please,” Without waiting for approval, I dashed to the bathroom and shut the door. Inside the bathroom, I heard a knock on the door.
“What do you want?” The stranger queried Lucien immediately.
“I'm Lucien Ashford, CEO of…”
“What do you want?”
“Did a woman just come in here? Can we see her? She looks like someone we have been looking for?” Seraphina chipped in and I peeped from the bathroom and watched the stranger almost shut the door.
“No. You were mistaken.”
“No!” Seraphina declined, “You know… that woman stole something of mine, so I… I hope you can assist us.”
“I see,” the stranger drawled and turned to me and our eyes met. We locked eyes for a second before he looked away.
“I'm sorry the woman who entered is my girlfriend. I assume you were mistaken.”
“You —”
“Please leave or I will get the authorities and file for harassment.” The stranger finalised and I watched Seraphina grit before she rolled her eyes. Taking Lucien's hands, they both walked away.
When the door finally shut, I rushed out of hiding.
“Thank you,” tears accompanied my words. “Thank you for helping me,” My knee almost gave way and I grabbed the sofa for support.
“Are you okay?” The man rushed towards me, “Do you need to go to the hospital again?”
“You remember.”
“You are too perfect to not be remembered. Now what do you need?”
“I need to leave,” I fought back my tears and blinked. I needed to make a decision before they outsmarted me. If Lucien already had plans to have the compensation the Vale left me, he must have started acting towards it.
I can't let them. I can't let them destroy me.
I needed to make a decision fast.
Even as my chest ached, I balanced on my feet and wiped my tears, “Thank you for helping me again,”
“Yes but someone wouldn't be there to help you every time,” the man blocked my way and shut his eyes, “what is happening to you, Elara?”
My mouth went agape. “You… know me.”
“No,” he shook his head and ruffled his hair, “no, those people mentioned it.”
“A lot,” I bit my lips and sniffed, “thank you for your help,” I brushed past him and headed to the door as a ground decision stood heavy in my throat.
I needed to leave Lucien first. But first, I could only leave without a tie to him. I would leave him without him having leverage against me.
I would cut off all ties with him by making one grand decision. My palm rose to my tummy and I gulped.
Sorry child, you have to go.
Chapter 28The Virex attack Elara's POV “And it starts now,” Darius spelt out, “according to the clause we're ready to proceed. We have our system auditor and technical scientist. Our team is outside Miss Vale, if you'd like to proceed.”The world thinned around me as I struggled to blink. All of it. Things I've put together for years were about to go down. It technically wasn't going to be now.But it was only a matter of time.I inhaled a sharp breath as I tried to steady my racing heart. I wasn't going to break. Not now. Not ever.“They can,” I shrugged and Darius clicked his tongue, “I mean according to our agreement, you can.”“Good, come in,” Darius communicated with his team members and soon a group of 7 people walked in. 7 corporately dressed men that weren't particularly different from Darius. They had the same cruel look he had on them.“Elara…” Caleb took my hands, “we can't let them access it now.”“They should get it done with. I want them out of my sight,” my voice was
Checkmate: Virex MovesElara's POV “They had access to the logs. I couldn't stop them and I called you as soon as I was informed,” Caleb sighed heavily as he gazed at the computer, “all our data, clues have been accessed.” His voice tightened as he looked around.“Were the security fucking useless?”“I will fire them,” I said and shut my eyes, different neurons in my brain firing. Were the securities bribed and therefore allowed entry? And what gave Darius the audacity? To walk into my Laboratory so brazenly. It wasn't even three weeks yet since our partnership and he was already pulling tricks. My fist locked beside me. He was dangerous. Caleb had mentioned that to me but I never expected him to reveal his deceitful nature that fast.“He is deceitful but he forgets I own this game, Caleb.”Caleb paused and raised a brow, “what?”“Those are decoy data sets. Our research data is private, not those on the screen.”“Elara—” Caleb called, mouth agape. “You—”“I felt he would do that, so
Chapter 26Breach by VirexElara's POV “Aria!” I called as I crouched to her length almost immediately. “You were running? Did you fall?” I asked as I searched her body frantically. Apparently, she decided to take part in their relay race, and exhausted her energy.“Tell me.”“She didn't,” Adrian answered. “She ran faster and the nurse said she had to come here for glucose. Because she would need it,”My tension evaporated as I shut my eyes. It was still the same thing. The teachers would have wondered how she could run so fast. “You do not have to take part in the race,” I whispered as I took them both in my arms, “mum was scared.”“Sorry mummy,” Aria whispered and I let them in my arms before I finally stopped, noting the company in the room.My head turned immediately and my eyes dilated as soon as they rested on Seraphina. She was standing, holding her daughter in her hands while she watched us.“Those are the kids they mentioned,” she stated as she glued her eyes on them, her ja
Denying him the cure Seraphina's POV The burgundy heels I wore kicked against the floor with every step I took while my eyes ran across the environment. Marble walls, chandeliers gleaming light above and the soft hum of people. As soon as I reached the reception, I mentioned my name, “Seraphina Ashford.”“A second,” the receptionist said before she confirmed my meeting and I took the elevator heading to the CEOs office. Already expecting me, I pushed the door open at the first knock and seated on the seat was the man I had always seen from afar. The one that had repetitively sent moles to the company. Our data set. The brain behind our inventions, that's what they had always needed.“I am surprised I see you just so easily,” Darius Cole finally spoke as he stood. A tuxedo hung to his body, hugging the toned body underneath. A gold watch was strapped to his wrist and even as it shone, it did nothing to help the coldness that stuck to his face.“One thing has got to bring us together
Chapter 24Come at me, Seraphina Elara's POV The moment I stepped into the office, my eyes rested on the box on the table. “A courier delivered it, it accompanied the message we received, ma'am,” Kate explained and I nodded.“Alright, you can leave,” she said. The moment she left, I flipped through the delivered information. A lawsuit. With full details. Proudly sent by the Ashford Corporation.I skimmed the pages, my eyes scanning every line of content. Breach of contract, intellectual property dispute.Lucien really took to my advice to charge me with an offence but none of it could stand. I clicked my tongue as I leaned into the seat. Now, I finally have something to do rather than being idle. Lucien wasn't tough after all, the confrontation the day before must have struck his ego and now he charges me with a lawsuit. As soon as the thought crossed my mind, I stilled and reached for the files immediately.Personal Vendetta.“The defendant knowingly exploited her former position t
Chapter 23Clash at homeLucien's POV As soon as the engine roar died down, I sank my fist into the steering wheel, my knuckles bursting the moment they made contact.Blood oozed out, aching shooting through my fingers but it was nothing like the emotions twirling inside of me. She was indifferent.Five years later, and now her stare was cold, raging,, and venomous, like she wasn't the same Elara. As if she weren't the same woman who cherished me. My fist collided with the steering wheel again as I let out a scream.Pain shot through my hand, but something deeper twisted inside my chest. For a moment the world tilted and black dots danced at the edge of my vision.Damn it.I was getting worseMy breath staggered and the beast inside me stirred violently, claws scraping against my ribs as if trying to tear its way out.The beast inside me was raging but more importantly, it was yearning, it was craving and howling for her, the same woman who had managed to have him suppressed. It had
