Story 2: Office Heat

Chapter 1

I should have left the building at six like everyone else.

Instead I stayed, hunched over my desk on the thirty-second floor, trying to finish a client presentation that kept refusing to come together. The open-plan office had gone quiet hours ago. Only the soft glow of my monitor and the distant hum of the air conditioning kept me company. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city lights blinked like they had somewhere better to be.

I told myself I was just being thorough.

I was lying.

Part of me was waiting.

Adrian Cole’s office light was still on. It always was when I worked late. The glass walls of the executive suite gave me a clear view of him at his desk, sleeves rolled up, tie loosened, focused on whatever document held his attention. Every now and then he would glance up, and for a split second our eyes would meet across the empty floor. Then he would look away first, like the contact meant nothing.

It meant something to me.

I hated that it did.

He was my boss. Twelve years older. The kind of man who walked into a room and owned it without raising his voice. Sharp. Controlled. Impossible to read. And for the last two months I had caught myself watching the way his hands moved when he signed papers, the way his voice dropped when he was giving instructions, the way his shirt stretched across his shoulders when he reached for something on a high shelf.

I told myself it was just admiration.

I was lying about that too.

At 8:47 the printer jammed for the third time. I muttered a curse under my breath and walked over to fix it, kneeling on the thin carpet to pull the crumpled paper free. The machine made an ugly grinding noise. I was still on my knees when I heard footsteps behind me.

I froze.

“Still here.”

Adrian’s voice was low, almost conversational. I stood too quickly, nearly knocking the paper tray loose. He stood a few feet away, hands in his pockets, watching me with that same unreadable expression he wore in meetings.

“Just finishing the Harrington file,” I said. My voice came out steadier than I felt. “It’ll be on your desk first thing.”

He nodded once. Didn’t move. The silence stretched long enough that I became painfully aware of how empty the floor was. No one left. No one coming back. Just the two of us and the soft click of the cooling vents.

“You’ve been staying late a lot,” he said.

“Trying to keep up.”

“Is that all it is?”

The question landed heavier than it should have. I felt heat crawl up the back of my neck. I looked at the printer instead of his face.

“What else would it be?”

He didn’t answer right away. He took a step closer. Then another. Close enough that I could smell the faint trace of his cologne and the coffee he must have had hours ago. Close enough that my pulse started hammering in my throat.

“You’ve been watching me,” he said quietly.

My stomach dropped.

“I—”

“Don’t insult me by denying it.” His voice stayed calm. Almost gentle. “You look when you think I’m not paying attention. You stay when everyone else leaves. And every time I walk past your desk, your shoulders tense like you’re waiting for something.”

I swallowed hard. “You’re my boss.”

“I know exactly what I am.”

The words sat between us, heavy and dangerous. I should have stepped back. Should have made an excuse and walked to the elevator. Should have protected the career I had worked too hard to risk.

I didn’t move.

Adrian’s eyes dropped to my mouth for half a second, then returned to mine. “Tell me to leave you alone and I will. Right now. No consequences. We never speak of this again.”

My heart was beating so hard I could feel it in my fingertips. Every logical part of me screamed to take the out he was offering. To keep the line clean. To not destroy the only stable thing I had left.

Instead I heard myself say, voice barely above a whisper, “I don’t want you to leave me alone.”

Something shifted in his expression. Not a smile. Something darker. Hungrier. Controlled, but only just.

He reached past me and locked the glass door to the executive wing with a soft click that sounded far too loud in the empty office.

“Then get on your knees,” he said. “And this time, do it properly.”

I dropped.

Not because I had planned to.

Because the way he said it left no room for anything else.

And as I looked up at him from the carpet, heart slamming against my ribs, I already knew there would be no going back from whatever happened next.

Office HeatChapter 3I stayed late the next day.And the day after that. And every day that followed. It became a pattern so clean it almost looked innocent from the outside. I worked. The floor emptied. Adrian’s office light stayed on. I waited until the last of the junior associates left, then walked the short stretch of carpet to the executive wing with my heart already racing and my cock half-hard from anticipation alone. He never made me wait long.Sometimes he locked the door the second I stepped inside. Sometimes he made me stand there for a full minute while he finished an email, eyes never leaving the screen, like he had all the time in the world and I was simply another task on his list. Those minutes were the worst. And the best. My pulse climbed with every second of silence until I was desperate before he even touched me.On Thursday he didn’t lock the door right away.He looked up from his desk, took in the way I was already breathing a little too fast, and said, “Come h

He just looked down at me like he was giving me one last chance to stand up and walk out. The locked door clicked softly in the silence. Somewhere far down the hall a cleaning cart rattled and then faded. We were alone. Completely.“Last chance,” he said, voice low. “You get up right now and this ends. No one ever knows. You keep your job. You keep your reputation. We pretend this never happened.”My hands were shaking against my thighs. Every rational part of my brain screamed at me to take the out. To stand. To leave. To protect the life I had built.I didn’t move.Adrian’s eyes darkened. He reached down, slow, and brushed his thumb across my lower lip. The touch was light. Almost careful. It still sent a jolt straight through me.“Open.”I did.He unbuckled his belt with one hand, the other still resting against my

Chapter 4 I lasted until Saturday. Two full days of open doors, of Kai walking past my room without stopping, of my hands staying exactly where he told them to stay. By Friday night I was so wound up I could barely sit still. Every time I shifted on the couch I felt the ghost of his fingers. Every time he looked at me across the kitchen I had to force myself not to drop to my knees just to make the ache stop. Saturday he came home late. I heard the front door. Heard his keys hit the counter. Heard him pour something into a glass. Then silence. I stayed in my room with the door open like he’d ordered, sitting on the edge of the bed in nothing but an old T-shirt and briefs, waiting for whatever came next. Footsteps stopped in my doorway. Kai stood there with two glasses of whiskey. He set one on the nightstand without a word, then took a slow sip from his own. “On your knees.” I dropped. The carpet was soft under me. I looked up at him and waited. He didn’t rush. He finished h

Chapter 3 I cleaned up. Hands still shaking. Face still hot. The toy rinsed and put back in the silk bag like nothing had happened. I pulled my sweatpants up, splashed cold water on my face, and stared at myself in the mirror for a long second. I looked wrecked. And I still walked out to the living room. Kai was on the couch, laptop open on the coffee table, one ankle resting on the opposite knee. He didn’t look up when I stopped a few feet away. “Closer.” I moved closer. He closed the laptop, set it aside, and finally lifted his eyes to mine. There was no heat in them. No rush. Just calm, focused attention that made my stomach twist. “Turn around.” I did. “Hands on the back of the couch.” My palms met the cool leather. I heard him stand. Heard the soft shift of fabric as he moved behind me. He didn’t touch me yet. Just stood close enough that I could feel the heat of his body. “You followed instructions well,” he said. Voice low. Almost conversational. “But you still cam

Chapter 2I didn’t sleep.Every time I closed my eyes I saw him standing in that hallway. Arms crossed. Voice calm. Eyes locked on me like he’d already decided what I was going to do next.By morning the embarrassment had turned into something sharper. Something restless. I told myself I would act normal. Pretend last night never happened. Pretend I hadn’t left the bathroom door cracked open on purpose when I finally went back to bed.Kai was already in the kitchen when I walked out.He didn’t look up from his coffee.“There’s food,” he said. “Eat.”That was it. No smirk. No comment. No mention of the toy or the note or the way he’d watched me come.I hated how much that bothered me.I ate in silence. He scrolled through his phone. The quiet between us felt heavier than it should have. When I finished and stood to rinse my plate, he finally spoke again.“I’m working from home today.”I nodded once. “Okay.”He set his phone down and looked at me properly for the first time. “The guest
