Nate

Nate

It’s been three days since everyone showed up to discuss everything.  Since then, Devon and I have hardly seen Emerald.  I couldn’t believe how beautiful she had become.  She was already so pretty back then, but now she is absolutely stunning.  I have cough glimpses of her, but she has been avoiding the two of us like the plague. I thought I would lose it when Samuel and the others explained what happened to Emerald as she grew up.  How dare those bastards to tell her shit like that.  I could see her fighting with herself during the meeting.  I would see her start moving like she wanted to come over, but she would force it down and stay in that damn chair.  We were all sitting down to eat breakfast when Emerald walked into the room.  The only chair left was between Devon and me.  I smiled internally because I didn’t want to frighten her.  I could see the internal struggle on her face.  Emerald huffed out a sigh and sat in the chair between the two of us.

“Can you please pass the water?”  She asked.

“Of course Princess,”  I tell her.

I can tell she can’t decide whether she should be nervous or relaxed around the two of us.  The two of us pass stuff to her as she asks.  I hear her let out a barely-there gasp when my hand touches hers. Breakfast went smoothly, and the three of us actually had a decent conversation. I could tell she was still nervous, but she was starting to relax around us.

“Devon and I are heading into town to look around.  Would you like to come with us?”  I ask.

She went dead silent, and I was afraid I had moved too fast.  I instantly regretted my offer and was about to tell her to forget it.

“Sure.”  She answered.

I was surprised when she agreed to come with us.  We finished eating and stood by the door, waiting for Emerald to come down.  She had to run up to her room and get her phone and wallet.  She was staying in the room right across from ours.  Devon and I had two of the rooms on the top floor remodelled about six months ago so that when we did find our mate, the three of us could share a room.  None of the rooms was big enough, so we chose two rooms next to each other and had them remodelled into one large room with a large bathroom.  We figured our mate would appreciate a nice large luxurious bathroom.

“Ok got everything I need,”  Emerald said.

We both jumped a little because we had never heard her come back down the stairs.  She is between the two of us as we walk out the door and to my jeep.  I opened the door for her to get in, and she smiled at me.  This time it was a real smile.  I shut the door as Devon climbed into the back seat behind Emerald.  I knew he was just as happy as I was to have her here with us.  I backed out of the garage, and we headed off to town.  I parked in our usual area on the main street where all the shops are.  Devon and I hate the mall.  We try not to shop there unless it is absolutely necessary.  Honestly, I can’t remember the last time we even stepped foot in that place.

“This is great.  I thought you were going to take us to the mall.”  Emerald states.

“No way, we hate that place.  We only shop there if we have no other choice.”  Devon tells her.

“I hate going to the mall.  The only reason I go is for bathroom stuff and undergarments.”  She says.

I smile, which means she likes Bath and Body Works and Victoria's Secret.  Good to know what her favourite shops are.  It makes gift buying much easier.  We start walking down the street when she stops at a cafe and heads inside.   She walks out with an iced coffee.  I feel sparks travel up my arm when our hands brush against each other.  I glance over, and I can tell she feels it because she is blushing.

“You're cute when you blush Kitten,”  Devon tells her quietly.

I see her roll her eyes at his nickname for her.  It fits her since she is a part werecat.  I let out a quiet laugh, but she hears it and shoots me a glare.  I smile at her and hear her let out a huff of irritation as she starts to walk faster.  I grab her hand as a woman comes storming out of one of the shops.  I pull her back and wrap my hand around her waist.  The woman doesn’t even give us a look as she walks across the road in a hurry.

“Um, Nate you can let go now.”  Emerald whispers.

“What if I don’t want to?”  I whisper in her ear.

I can’t help but place a soft kiss on her neck, and she melts into my arms.  I hear a door shut behind us and Devon’s voice carries our way.  She pulls herself from my arms and steps away.

That moment is when I realize she feels the bond but is scared to give in.  I see Devon give us a weird look as we continue walking.  She stops and tells us she is going to go into a store, and we tell her we will be in the next store down.  She says she will come to find us when she is done.

“What was that about?”  Devon asks.

I explained to him what had happened and how she reacted when I kissed her neck.  He agrees that she is fighting the bond.  I tell him we have to be patient with her.  I hear him let out a quiet growl.  Devon is not the patient one out of the two of us.  He is quicker to anger and the more aggressive one of us.  I am the more diplomatic one and try to resolve issues before getting angry.

“Are you two alright?  You both look lost in thought.”  Emerald asks us.

“We are fine Princess,”  I tell her.

“Nate is right, we are all good Kitten,” Deven adds.

“Wow ridiculous nicknames already, great.”  She grumbles.

She walks off to look at something, still mumbling under her breath.  I just chuckle at her.  They are not ridiculous nicknames. They fit her perfectly.  She is the princess of two different kingdoms, and she is a part werecat, so yeah she is our kitten.  She turns and looks at me with those mesmerizing green eyes, and I get totally lost in them.

“Snap out of it brother,”  Devon smirks.

“Fuck off, she has the same effect on you,”  I tell him.

“This is true but we need to go, she is walking off the store.”  He comments.

The three of us spend another hour or so walking around.  She does buy some new clothes that she did model for us.  That was a nice bonus.  We took her out to dinner since it was getting late and then headed back home.  She lets out a yawn as we pull into the garage.  We all walk into the house.  It is quiet, but I can hear Tyler and Draven in the game room, probably playing a game of pool.

“I had a good time today.”  She tells us.

We are about to head into our room when she turns around and gives both of us a kiss on the cheek, then steps into her room and closes the door behind her.  Devon closes the door behind him as I walk further into the room with what I am sure is the stupidest smile on my face.  I look at Devon; he has the same stupid smile on his face.

“I wonder what made her change her mind?”  I ask.

“I don’t know but whoever or whatever did I need to thank them.  We are still going to have to be careful of what we do and say around her.” Devon points out.

“I know.  I seriously want to beat the shit out of that part of her family.”  I tell him.

“As do I brother, but that would just hurt her.  We just need to be there for her and show her that she means the world to us and she is the most important person to us.”  Devon adds.

I know what he is saying is the truth.  Emerald deserves to be treated like the princess she is and Devon and I have every intention of making sure that she has everything she needs.  She will never want anything again.  She will never hear a negative word against her from anyone close to her and if someone does say shit like that then they get to deal with Devon or me.

I hope she accepts them before someone ruins everything for her.
