“Lily, take this.”

A familiar voice rang out, sending a chill down my spine.

Tiffany Owens pressed a small box into my hand and winked at me. “I know it’s that time of the month. This is an imported painkiller—it’ll make you feel better.”

Just three minutes ago, I had finished a major surgery and was getting ready to head home for some rest. That was when Gareth called, saying his mother had been critically injured in a car accident and that she only trusted family to operate on her.

Pain flared in my abdomen, sharp and unbearable. I curled up slightly to ease the discomfort.

As I stared at the box in my hand, hesitation filled my mind. In my past life, the only thing I had consumed before surgery was this very painkiller from Tiffany.

Could this have been the drug that led to my downfall?

I waved a hand, suppressing the pain. “No need, Tiff. I just need to rest for a bit.”

Seeing that I wasn’t opening the box, Tiffany snatched it back, popped out a pill, and shoved it directly into my mouth.

“Lil, you have to stay in top form for this surgery! You can’t afford to be careless.”

I held the pill under my tongue, studying Tiffany’s earnest expression with suspicion. She showed no trace of guilt.

When I didn’t swallow, she quickly tilted a cup to my lips, forcing me to gulp down a mouthful of water. The pill slid down my throat before I could stop it. I immediately started coughing violently.

I lifted my head, locking eyes with Tiffany. Her expression remained perfectly composed as if nothing was wrong. With no proof, I couldn’t confront her directly. I didn’t want to alert the enemy before I had solid evidence.

Tiffany’s medical skills were average at best, and she only had this hospital job because of my recommendation. I never imagined that my so-called best friend would go to such lengths to sabotage me.

But if this was the source of the illegal drug, then what about Madam Pratt’s blood type?

Had I really been mistaken?

No—if the blood type had truly changed, then the blood bank and the nurses would have caught it.

“What’s wrong, Lil? How did one sip of water make you choke so badly?”

As I slowly exposed Tiffany’s scheme, she sneered and lifted her chin."Lil! Nonsense! How could I do such a thing? I urged you to do the surgery for your own promotion! How dare you make baseless accusations against me? I’ll sue you!"Then, she leaned in close and whispered, "Yes, Lil, you guessed right. But what proof do you have?"Tiffany smirked.Just then, a group of people rushed out from the shadows and tackled Tiffany to the ground. She couldn’t dodge in time and was forced to kneel, shielding her head."You’re the one who set up my mom, aren’t you? You planned the accident, didn’t you?"These people were the real family of the woman on the operating table. On the day of the accident, they had called the police, but Tiffany had protection in the form of her brother. Making someone disappear without a trace wasn’t hard for them.To avoid alerting her, I had them wait in the shadows. "Mom! Wake up! Mom!"The woman on the operating table had lost too much blood, and her face was devoid of color. Her limbs hung limply over the sides of the surgical bed.Emma panicked, but no matter how much she called out, the person on the table remained unresponsive. Only the harsh beeping of the heart monitor filled the air.Tiffany hurried over to Emma, grabbed her, and was about to whisper something when Emma elbowed her away. Grabbing Tiffany’s hair, she dragged her to the ground."Tiffany! Didn't you say that as long as I helped you frame my sister-in-law, you had my mom's condition under control? Now my mom is gone! And you dared to lie to us that the surgery was successful! I'll beat you to death, you b*tch! I swear, today you’re paying for my mom’s life!"Tiffany was thrown to the ground as Emma furiously strangled her. Tiffany fought back, biting Emma's hand. “Tiffany, don’t waste your life over this wretched woman. She’s been bullying you because she has seniority. I’ve known all along. I never said anything because she’s my wife, but I can’t stand it anymore.“I am Gareth, Lilianne’s husband, and I testify that everything Tiffany said is true.”Hearing this, Tiffany sobbed even harder, burying her face in Gareth’s chest, but I noticed the smirk she tried to hide. She probably thought she had won again.Alas, I had lived through this once before—I knew every step of her game. Today, I would turn her own tricks against her. Before the crowd could react, the head nurse suddenly rushed over, looking frantic.“What are you all still doing here? I rushed out of the break room, grabbed Tiffany’s sleeve, and snatched the pillbox from her hands.“Tiffany, if you truly meant well, then tell me this.” I held up the pillbox in front of her and questioned, “You clearly know that taking prohibited substances before surgery is forbidden.
