Chapter two

Camilla POV

It was 3:25 pm, just one more hour before my shift was over. I decided to waste my last twenty-minute break in the hospital cafeteria, observing the patients interact with one another and chat while sipping my drink.

I work at one of the biggest, well equipped, well-staffed, and famous hospitals in Alameda, Kessaint Laurent medical hospital.

Bam! A sound rang out as someone hit the table in front of me.

What is it with everyone and interrupting my thoughts?

I looked up lazily expecting another raging patient or Mrs.Olivia. "How may I...."

"Why didn't you tell me Mrs. Olivia hit you?" Ashley questioned and examined my face while I wondered how she found out. "It's nothing Ash, don't let it bother you." I tried to reason with her, but it didn't work.

"Camilla Jones," She sighed. "You know this is assault, right?" I nodded and grabbed the cup of coffee I had ordered a few minutes before she had arrived. "The last time she hit you, you said it was nothing but she had your dislocated arm!" I remained quiet and lowered my head. "God knows that if I see that bitch I will make her go through hell. I'll rip her heart out and feed it to vultures or ravens." Ash bellowed angrily.

I love that Ash does not sweet coat what's in her mind. She expresses herself no matter which situation she is in.

But like people say: Too much of something can become harmful.

I appreciate that Ash says things like they are, but sometimes her honesty hurts.

Last week, We boarded a cab, and -oh my God- no one on earth would be able to withstand the odor coming from those seats.

The old man driving tried talking with us to distract us from the odor. He cracked jokes and even tried singing, but Ash eventually shouted, "Excuse me, sir" She interrupted. "talking or whatever you are trying to do won't make us forget this grease-pit we're in. I am going to work, not a fucking garbage dump!"

I felt bad for the old man, I apologized over and over again for Ash's bad behavior, but he still ended up tripling our cab fee.

Ash continued to try and convince me to file a report against Mrs. Olivia

"Ash, I will tell you again. It's not a big deal, and if I bring up the case you know I don't have enough money to win against her. She's stinking rich and I am just me."

I shrugged and turned my face away.

Ash sighs, frustrated. "Okay, if it makes you sleep at night I'm going to let it go for now. I'm giving you the remaining hours off, Becky is willing to take your shift, besides there's just a few more minutes left before you are free." she offers.

Her uncle is the owner of the hospital which gave Ashley a say in whatever went on.

"No, I can't accept that. I will wait for my shift to end." I insist.

"Hell no, if you won't take my advice and go report Mrs. Olivia, then you should at least take a few hours for yourself." She insist

I hugged her goodbye, got my things and then hailed a cab heading to a muffin shop two streets away.

**********************

"What should I do now since I have free hours in my hands?" I questioned myself continuously trying to figure out what to do.

"I would like three blueberry muffins and a smoothie, please." I ordered as the sales girl handed me my order on a tray.

"Come back soon!" She waved as I headed outside to a nicely arranged table.

I munched down on the muffin moaning in delight, cream crumbs falling onto my white uniform.

"Excuse me, ma'am." A man's voice asked from behind me.

I looked up to see a well built guy towering over me. All I could do was appreciate God's creations. Or cant I?

My eyes adjusted to see a really cute guy with two sticking dimples standing above me.

When last did I see a beauty like this? perhaps in college?

"H-How may I help you? " I nervously replied, inhaling his cologne.

"Are you busy?" He asked still smiling.

Dammn. Could someone tell him to stop?

I was always a sucker of dimples. I am really hopeless.

"Not for the next few hours." He grabs a nearby chair and places it on the other end of the table.

"Excellent, my boss would like to speak to you." he points at a tinted Lykan Hyper sport.

I looked at him and took a sip of mu smoothie .

I had a feeling that this 'boss' of his was not going to be a nice person. All I knew was that but he must be very rich to own this kind of car.

The boss couldn't stoop so low as to step his foot on the land everyone walks on. So why should I be bothered to speak to him when he only sent his worker to see me?

"Tell this boss of yours that if he can't meet me here, we have nothing to discuss." I fumed, not caring if he was rich.

"For all I knew he could have a fat belly, be bald, or be an old man looking for people to service him."

The cute guy stared at me, shocked -and perhaps insulted- at my remark.

"Ma'am, please, he won't take more than five minutes." he tried to convince me.

"And it won't take him ten seconds to walk over here." I retorted.

The cute guy sighed and called someone on his phone then hands it to me, "My boss".

"Hey you, bastard, if you can't walk over to me with those expensive shoes of yours then go shove the words down your pants." I cut the call handing the phone back to him.

I stood up and put the leftovers of my wrapped muffins in my bag and grabbed my smoothie. As I was heading towards the nearest bus station, someone pulls me back forcefully.

I immediately look up and come face to face with another tall, handsome guy. He looked about six-foot-four -give or take- had a strong jaw, an athletic body, and -oh my God- don't get me started on his lips.

The only thing I couldn't see were his eyes since he wore a pair of dark sunglasses over them.

Feeling slightly intimidated by his demeanor, I stepped back and immediately thought back to the comments I'd made earlier.

Maybe his eyes were red due to the nasty statement I directed at him.

"If you're done checking me out. Let me know." he smirked.

 The nerve!

I pulled my hands from his grip and stared at his with a mix of fear and annoyance in my eyes.

"So you're the boss, huh?" I questioned as his worker walks towards us. "Not what I expected."

"I heard all the nasty things you said loud and clear. Some fat belly bald man huh?" He retorted, looking pissed off.

"I still think you're an obnoxious weirdo. Sending your worker to a lonely woman to get her attention. " I say walking to the side way to hail a cab.

Then I did the lamest thing in the world. I grabbed my phone trying to pretend I was receiving a call.

The cracking sound I heard broke my heart a hundred times repeatedly as a truck smashed it into pieces.

My birthday gift!!!
