Empty After All The Years

“That’s great, my dear! You’ve finally come to your senses!

“I’ll pick you up personally from the airport seven days from now, my supermodel.”

The moment I ended the call, tears silently streamed down my cheeks.

Immediately, a pair of huge hands gently wrapped around my waist.

Liam White rested his chin against my shoulder and whispered, “Evelyn, I’m so happy. The doctor said that you’re pregnant with triplets. I’m going to be a dad.”

I replied through trembling lips, “Liam, the doctor said that it’ll be a dangerous pregnancy with triplets. What about…”

Liam’s hands froze as he frantically said, “No way, we can’t let any one of them go. Could you bear to treat our children this cruelly?”

Tears kept streaming down my cheeks. I felt extremely hopeless.

My life meant nothing to him compared to his children with Holly Anderson.

Liam seemed to notice that I was crying, so he said gently, “You can’t get agitated when you’re pregnant. Think about the babies in your tummy.”

The next second, I saw a text message appearing on his phone. The contact was labelled as “X”.

A smile appeared on Liam’s face. Then, he said to me, “Evelyn, there’s something urgent for me to handle at work. I’ll make a move first.”

I wiped my tears away and immediately scheduled an abortion with the clinic.

I recalled the past ten IVF attempts, and all of them were excruciating to go through.

I even left my modelling career at its peak for him.

I had given up so much for Liam, but he had impregnated me with another woman’s children.

It was ridiculous for me to be a stepping stone for their relationship!

After I reached the hospital, I registered myself, signed all documents, and paid the fee.

As I laid on the hospital bed, the doctor sighed. “I saw your medical records. You only got pregnant after ten IVFs, isn’t it a shame to get an abortion?”

I recalled my past ten experiences. In order to get pregnant, I had hundreds of injections to trigger ovulation, and my entire abdomen was covered in pinpricks.

Tears welled up again as I whispered, “You may start, doctor. I’m ready.”

“Alright, we’ll administer the anesthesia.”

As they sedated me, my phone started buzzing.

It was an intimate photo from Holly. The hickies on her neck were proof of how passionate they were earlier.

“Evelyn, do you know Liam told me that he only loves me in bed just now?”

My vision blurred as my phone dropped to the floor.

The last photo was Liam hugging Holly tightly as they stood lovingly underneath a firework show.

It was the secret spot that he had proposed to me. It had become the spot for his affair with Holly.

When I opened my eyes again, I could smell the antiseptic scent.

After the anesthesia effect wore off, I felt jabbing pains coming from my abdomen. It was as if I was bleeding every single time I breathed.

After I was done with the IV drip, I took a cab home as I bore with the pain.
