Chapter 4

Author: Paper Relic
Lucien's POV

I locked my phone and responded apathetically, "A friend."

Seeing my reaction, the corners of Eira's mouth lifted, though the smile didn't reach her eyes. "Is that so? I had no idea you had other friends besides me."

"It's just a text message. Surely you're not going to make a scene over something so trivial, Ms. Primrose?" I calmly used her words against her, yet her expression instantly hardened.

Jaden, who was beside her, put on a pitiful expression. "Eira, is he behaving like this because he doesn't want to look after me? I think he just looks down on someone like me who only does odd jobs at the racetrack. In his eyes, even if I solved his problem and allowed him to effortlessly become a father, I'm still not worthy of a bit of his care."

Eira scoffed. "Do you think he's any nobler than you? Without me, he'd just be a homeless blind man right now."

Right after saying that, she kissed Jaden lightly on the lips and drawled, "Since he doesn't respect you, I'll allow you to teach him a lesson."

Ignoring my protests, I was forcibly shoved into a modified race car.

Jaden pretended to be surprised. "Eira, are you sure it's okay to take things this far? There are no brakes on this car. Once it takes off, it'll just keep accelerating. He won't have control over anything besides the steering wheel."

Eira wrapped her arm around him and smiled indifferently. "You're the one who made me a mother. If it makes you happy, consider it his way of making amends."

I stared intently at the couple in front of me, a chill spreading through my heart.

The vehicle shot forward, controlled remotely by the device in Eira's hand.

I didn't dare let my guard down. Clutching the steering wheel, I desperately tried to keep the vehicle under control. However, with a loud thud, the rear of my car was struck violently, nearly wrenching the steering wheel from my hands.

Before I could regain control, a barrage of collisions followed in rapid succession. Countless sparks burst from the rear of my car.

The vehicle continued to accelerate, tearing through the wind at a lethal speed. Despite the protective roll cage, my skin was shredded with burning, stinging scrapes.

I noticed Jaden behind the wheel in my rearview mirror. He wore a sinister smirk.

Realizing that my car had been knocked off course and was hurtling closer to the ocean beyond the guardrails, I couldn't hold it together any longer. My whole body began to shake like a leaf. "Eira, make him stop!"

Back when she first made a name for herself, she crossed quite a few people. Those people had plotted against her, stuffing her into a burlap sack and dumping her into international waters.

I'd thrown caution to the wind and dived into the icy winter sea. My body had turned blue from the bitter cold, and I'd nearly lost my life just to drag her back ashore.

Ever since then, I'd been left with severe psychological trauma. The moment I came close to the ocean, that deep-rooted fear would instantly engulf me, rendering me immobile.

After hearing me bellow, Jaden's unbridled laughter crackled through my racing helmet. "Eira said someone who knows they're wrong but refuses to change isn't worthy of calling himself her husband.

"Tell you what, I'm not a petty guy. All you have to do is get down on your knees, slap yourself across the face, and apologize to me. Then, I'll stop. How does that sound?"

I glanced at Eira through the rearview mirror. Sitting beside him, she remained silent, silently condoning his actions. Ironically, I remembered how she had once sworn that she would never let me be put in harm's way again.

Unfortunately, at the moment, she was sitting beside another man, tacitly allowing her lover to use my Achilles' heel to force me to submit.

I smiled wryly as I withdrew my gaze. Looking at the red dot on the GPS that was getting closer and closer to my location, I no longer hesitated. I ground the side of my car against the railing, using the friction to forcibly slow the car down and turn around.

Following the violent grinding against the railing, my car accelerated once again.

I watched as Eira's expression shifted from disbelief to sheer panic through the windshield. She frantically mashed the buttons on the controller, but inertia made it impossible for her to stop the two cars from rapidly closing in on each other.

"Lucien, have you lost your mind? Stop!" Her furious bellow boomed through my helmet.

Before severing the connection, I smiled at her. "You're right, Eira. I'm not as magnanimous as you. I can't sit calmly beside the man who killed my child!"

As soon as my words fell, the two cars collided with a deafening crash. My car was already on the verge of falling apart, and after being launched into the air by the fierce impact, it plunged into the vast sea behind me.

Eira's heart-wrenching scream tore through the wind. "No! Luc—" she only had time to shout out that one sentence before the massive impact rebounded on her. In the blink of an eye, she blacked out.

  • Ending Our Marriage in 30 Seconds   Chapter 10

Lucien's POVAt the time, I shook my head and beamed at Calliope. "I can't. My star's right here."Sadly, in a mere decade, everything had changed beyond recognition. Still, I looked up at her and earnestly said, "Thank you for being willing to help me." Had she not arrived in the nick of time that day after my car plunged into the ocean to pull me out of the sinking vehicle, I would most likely have become nothing more than bones at the bottom of the ocean. Calliope looked away as if it was no big deal, though her ears were burning bright red. "Don't sweat it. You kind of saved my life back then, too... Besides, we're partners now. Of course I should help you!"I couldn't help but chuckle and nod. The moment I decided to leave Eira, I had reached out to Calliope. I proposed becoming her business partner, offering my expertise in sports nutrition and biomechanical care tailored specifically for race car drivers. Looking back on it now, I felt a little sentimental. I guess I

Third-Person POVEira's touch was as gentle as a lover's caress, yet it made every hair on his body stand on end. "I know I fucked up. Please—"However, the force around his neck only tightened further. The unwillingness to accept his impending death fueled a self-destructive courage within him. He figured he had nothing left to lose and cackled. "As if you're any better than me! You're the one who gave me the opportunity to teach Lucien a lesson, remember? Why are you pretending to be a devoted wife now?"Now that he doesn't want you anymore, you got what you deserved! Besides, when I pushed your pitiful husband down the stairs that day, do you have any idea how much he bled? It practically soaked through his white shirt! "Where were you then? You didn't even hear his cries for help. I merely beckoned, and you crawled into my bed like a dog!" Eira's chest abruptly tightened. Recalling that day, when she had received the call informing him that Lucien had been hospitalized, sh

Lucien's POVEira stared long and hard at our intertwined hands. "So the reason you suddenly wanted a divorce was because of this bitch? You told me you loathed me for cheating on you, yet if you weren't infertile, I wouldn't have gone looking for other men! Look at what you're doing now. How are you any different from me back then?"Eyeing me mockingly, she reprimanded me matter-of-factly, as if my inability to give her a child was a perfectly valid justification for her unbridled affairs. Yet, she had never once stopped to ask me why we couldn't have children. Eira had simply used it as a convenient excuse to indulge in the thrill and excitement of the chase. Before I could retort, Calliope, who was beside me, had already lunged at her. "How dare you speak to him like that! If it weren't for you, Luci would never have suffered those injuries in the first place! Instead of reflecting on the cause, you brazenly brought your lover into your home and even indulged him when he pushed L

Lucien's POVThe moment Eira saw me, she could hardly believe her eyes. When I turned to leave, she strode up to me. "I knew you were still alive, Luc!" Her expression was filled with uncontrollable excitement. "You must've gone through so much while you were wandering out here all this time. Come on, I'll take you home."However, I avoided her outstretched hand and took a step back. "Please keep your hands to yourself, Ms. Primrose. We're divorced."Eira froze. "Excuse me?" My brows drew together, but I knew that since she had tracked me down, there was no way for me to avoid her any longer. So, I pulled up the social media post I had made to celebrate my new life on the day I received the divorce certificate. "See? We were no longer husband and wife as of two months ago."Eira stared blankly at the photo, muttering under her breath, "N-No, that's impossible! I've never signed—"Mid-sentence, realization struck her. She stared at me in utter disbelief. "Two months ago... What

Third-Person POVEira's question made Jaden flinch. He forced a smile. "Why would you think that?"Paying him no mind, Eira coldly ordered, "Pull up all the surveillance footage from that road on that day."The blood drained from his face in an instant. He thought he had enough time to cover his tracks. It never crossed his mind that Eira hadn't trusted him for a single second. In no time, Rowena returned with a laptop. When Eira watched the fiery-red car crash through the guardrail, her face darkened as if a storm was brewing. Even though she couldn't make out who was inside the vehicle because the footage was taken from afar, an uneasy feeling spread through her chest. Rowena leaned in to take a closer look. "Huh, isn't that Mr. Sinclair?" As soon as her words fell, she watched the car plunge straight into the ocean. In a heartbeat, her face twisted in sheer terror. "Mr. Sinclair… Why is he there?"Rowena whipped her head around to look at Jaden. "When I arrived at the

Third-Person POVBy the time Eira came to, the excruciating pain racking her body tore a sharp gasp from her throat. Clutching her forehead, she felt disoriented until a hand reached out from beside her and grabbed hold of her. Her gaze shifted toward Jaden, who was equally disheveled beside her, and her brows knitted together. "Who are you?"He froze for a moment before an overwhelming sense of joy washed over him.Eira appeared to have lost her memory, and Lucien was now missing. Wasn't this a golden opportunity for him to become Eira's husband?Suppressing his tumultuous emotions, he stroked her lower abdomen and hurriedly clarified, "I'm your husband, Eira. Quick, save our baby!"…Lying on the hospital bed, Eira stared blankly at the wedding ring on her finger. The deep indentation it left on her skin suggested that this marriage had lasted a long time. Yet, when she thought of the man in the room next door, all she felt was an indescribable sense of estrangement. The mome
