Chapter 1

Author: Bear Alert
I watched these people praise my sister, Anna Smith, and belittle me, and my heart gradually turned cold.

In the family chat group, my mother mentioned Anna.

Mom: [I booked the flight for you. Once we arrive in Mexico, you can buy whatever you want. I have money.]

My sister hinted: [Mom, I heard that Mexico is close to Guatemala and has many good materials.]

My mother immediately responded: [Okay, okay, we'll buy you a jade bracelet.]

My niece, Emily Johnson, immediately sent a voice message. "Grandma, I want one too. I want one too!"

My mother immediately answered with a smile.

Mom: [Okay, okay. We'll buy one for everyone.]

My mother enthusiastically arranged gifts for everyone, even my brother-in-law, but she never mentioned me.

I glanced at the phone record.

She spent nearly 20,000 dollars on the flight tickets, using my supplementary card.

It had always been like this since I was little.

I spent 20 dollars to buy a practice book, yet my mother gave me a beating, saying that all I did was ask for money and showed no understanding for the family.

However, my sister would receive 20,000 dollars from our mother to buy an LV bag.

When I had just turned 18, my mother said I could not spend her money for nothing since I was now an adult. From then on, I started working part-time and applied for a supplementary card to support my parents.

Anna got married and had a baby. My mother bought Emily's formula milk with the supplementary card.

I suddenly felt tired. Looking at the supplementary card on my app, I clicked on it to cancel it.

It turned out that it was easy not to be the family bank.

Without my support, what could they do to be loving toward each other?

After canceling the supplementary card, I immediately applied to the company for a transfer to a branch office.

I only told my mother I had to go on a last-minute business trip and might not be back before Independence Day. She did not offer a single word of concern, only asking if I would be compensated for the business trip before discussing what clothes to wear with my sister. She kept muttering, "It's a good thing I didn't book your ticket; how much would the refund have cost?"

Looking at my mom enthusiastically trying on clothes in the mirror, I smiled mockingly. Perhaps my absence during the trip was exactly what she wanted.

After all, I had always felt like I was the odd one out since I was little.

My dad frowned and glared at me. "You brat, what are you standing there for? It's just a few bucks! Why are you so stingy? If I hadn't raised you, you'd probably be a prostitute somewhere now! You're so calculating with your own family. You're indeed an ingrate! I should have strangled you to death back then!"

There was it again — One could not be calculating with their family. Thus, I had to let my whole family bleed me dry; I would be calculating if I refused.

Seeing that I remained silent, my father suddenly felt a little guilty, and his tone softened. "Don't blame your mother and me for being biased; it's your own fault for being so disrespectful. If this were back in the day, you would have been executed. It's only because your mother and I are soft-hearted that we raised you."

Memories flooded back, and I felt as if I were back on that dark, rainy night.

I was a senior in high school at the time and I left school very late because of school competition training. My dad, who was supposed to pick me up, never showed up, so I had to go home by myself. That same night, someone dragged me into an alleyway, but luckily, a neighbor happened to be passing by and rescued me.

Disheveled, I was taken home by the police, while my dad returned with cupcakes.

"Deena, I'll cause a commotion at your hotel if you don't look after your sister!" My mother threatened."Go ahead! Mom, our hotel's reputation went up a notch after you last caused a commotion. Mom, you're welcome to cause a commotion," I answered seriously. My mother immediately calmed down.I instantly felt a tinge of regret; I should not have said that.Just now, several plans flashed through my mind to take advantage of my mother's commotion to raise the hotel's reputation to a new level.I ignored my mother but still reported Anna’s case to the police.Unfortunately, Anna was no longer in the area. The police could do their best, but they could not do much.My mother sued me for this.In court, I presented the bills for all the years I supported my mother and Anna, as well as explained my mother's favoritism toward Anna. The judge was sympathetic to me. Since my mother was not yet 50 years old and had not lost her ability to work, the court denied

My mother no longer held back. "She... she took out a loan with her nude photos and videos as collateral. They threatened to post her photos online and even show them to your brother-in-law if she didn't pay them back. You know your sister is a mother, and her child is only four years old. The child can't lose her father. Besides, your sister can't live without your brother-in-law."I immediately understood. The last sentence was the key point.Anna was a hopeless romantic. She insisted on marrying Justin, a drunkard. After getting married, she and Justin even stayed and lived off us. My mother disagreed with Anna and Justin being together. However, every time my mother asked them to break up, Anna would become hysterical and even cut her wrists several times. No wonder Anna went to work in Mexican cartel territory this time."Your sister met a good friend who said there was a way to make money. Who would have thought that your sister would be tricked into entering Mexican cartel t

"Why are all of you defending her? Are you also this heartless?"An onlooker could not help but scold, "You care about family. Why don't you ask your eldest daughter to pay for your youngest daughter? Or even pay for her yourself!"Feeling guilty, my mother simply sat on the ground and burst into tears. "Oh, why am I so unlucky? My daughter is ungrateful. I should just die.""Dad, say something." I saw my father, who had hidden far away.My father stood there, stammering for a long time before finally shouting at my mother, "Stop humiliating us!"My mother pointed at my father and scolded him, "My daughter is ungrateful, and my husband can't be relied on either.""You're unreasonable!" My father said and turned around to leave.I sneered. Men were always like this, avoiding everything and then saying a few meaningless words.I gave the security guard a look, and he quickly dragged my mother away. The onlookers cheered. The video of my mother's rampage at the hotel was posted o

"Deena, come here!" My mother shouted, pointing at me.Everyone around looked at my mother."You think you're all independent now? What's wrong with spending money on your family? Are you happy seeing your sister beaten up? How could I have raised a daughter like you?"My dad chimed in at the side, "Deena, I know you're upset, but she's your sister. We're family, so don't be so petty. You can't be too concerned about money; you also need your family!"The crowd around did not know the truth and began pointing fingers at me.Seeing this, my mother became even more agitated and shouted, "Look at this ingrate! She doesn't take care of her parents. She's heartless and cruel!" A security guard nearby came over. "Ms. Smith, do you need any help?"My mother froze when she heard this. "When did you become the hotel manager?"As if realizing something, my mother suddenly grabbed me and shouted, "You heartless brat, hurry and return Anna's 50,000 dollars. I know. "I have a lot of savings, but withdrawing them now would result in losing interest, so that's why I haven't paid yet."Our relatives looked at Anna suspiciously, unsure if what she said was true.Anna showed a smug expression. "I'll pay up today to prove that everything I said is true, but I will never treat you again."Anna looked down and fiddled with her phone for a while. It was unclear what she had done. Then, she arrogantly walked to the reception desk. "Payment with card!"After a moment, the receptionist smiled and returned the card to Anna. "Madam, I wish you a pleasant stay."Anna raised her head proudly. "I told you I had money. I'm not a peasant."Our relatives quickly apologized. "See, I told you. Anna is the most capable. We were just all tricked by that ingrate just now.""Anna, don't mind me. In my opinion, that brat Deena is just jealous of you!"Anna was even more smug and was about to say something when she was suddenly slapped.Unexpectedly, my brother-in-l

My mother also realized that she had blurted out the truth and was stuttering, unable to continue speaking.Anna walked over. "Oh, Aunt Lisa and Uncle Jordan, you two have misunderstood my mother. Mom, stop covering up for Deena."I looked curiously at Anna in the surveillance footage, wondering what else she could say."Actually, I took my supplementary card from my mother a while ago. It's currently with Deena."Everyone was dumbfounded to hear this."What's going on? How could it be with Deena?""Yeah, what's really going on?"Anna nodded with satisfaction and explained pretentiously, "I don't know how Deena spent it. We're too embarrassed to tell you about her financial difficulties, so we kept it a secret. We just never expected that she had spent all the money. That's why I haven't paid yet."The relatives did not know the truth and thought it was me who had spent everyone's money. They all became indignant."What? Deena spent all of Anna's money? What's a young girl lik
