Chapter 3

Autor: Dear Orange
The last glimmer of hope was completely extinguished in my heart.

I swiftly picked up the glasses of vodka on the table and downed every shot. Everyone stared at me in complete shock.

I chuckled as I then glanced at Monique. "Hurry up and kiss. I really ship the both of you as well."

The entire VIP room went deathly quiet.

Monique's face first turned red with embarrassment before turning as dark as thunder.

"Brayden Park! You know that this was just a damn game! Stop making such a mountain out of a molehill!"

Terry also spoke up just then, his voice as cold and high-and-mighty as ever.

"You're mistaken, Mr. Park. Ms. Walton and I are nothing more than colleagues. We're all just having fun here. I just thought it wasn't nice to ruin the mood for everyone."

I didn't say another word. I just found everything meaningless and got up to leave. However, Terry stopped me and blocked my way.

"It's just a game, Mr. Park. There's no need to get mad at all. I can apologize to you, but Ms. Walton is your girlfriend. Don't you think you should be apologizing to her for making her so uncomfortable in public?"

I laughed coldly. "And who are you to lecture me?"

He replied in his cold voice, "Ms. Walton and I are classmates. I do not wish to see her future husband humiliating her in public like this."

I stared at his holier-than-thou attitude and finally snapped, punching him right in the face.

Terry staggered back onto the seat, his glasses flying off.

"And who gave you the right to condemn me like this?" I growled through my teeth.

Monique's eyes widened at once and she slapped me hard in the face. Her hand was shaking, and the veins were popping on the back of her hands.

"Are you out of your mind? What the hell do you think you're doing?"

She slapped me so hard that my face was forced to the side. I then saw out of the corner of my eye how she immediately went over to Terry with a concerned, heartbroken look.

"Terry! Are you okay? Does it hurt?"

She kneeled down before him as she reached out to caress his face. The scene was so jarring that it nearly blinded me.

She then turned around abruptly and pointed her finger in my nose, her voice as cold as ice.

"Apologize to Terry at once!"

I licked the trickle of blood in the corner of my mouth and cackled.

"What the hell should I even apologize to him for?"

Monique glared at me. "You're not leaving this place until you apologize to him."

Just then, two of her bodyguards came in and went up to me, grabbing me from both sides.

"Apologize now!"

When she saw that I wouldn't, she stormed forward and kicked me in the back of my knees with her killer stilettos.

The immense pain shot through my leg at once, and I fell down on my knees in an instant.

The bodyguards then pinned me to the ground as I fell.

Terry's voice was still calm and undisturbed as he said, sounding like he was withholding pain, "It's fine, Ms. Walton. Don't jeopardize your relationship just because of me."

Monique immediately turned around and held his hand.

"Don't worry, Terry. I won't let anyone bully you or humiliate you."

Then, she turned back to me, glaring at me from above, as he ordered her bodyguards, "Make him apologize, even if that means you have to beat the shit out of him."

Immediately, they grabbed me by the back of my hair and began kicking and punching me like I was nothing more than a punching bag.

Blood trickled down from my head and blurred my vision. I didn't know how long they beat me up until Monique finally told them to stop.

Then, I was thrown onto the floor like a pile of garbage, watching as she stood on tiptoe to put her arms around Terry.

Terry hesitated at first before kissing her back, long and deep.

Ten minutes never felt so long.

My heart had grown numb by then.

They finally parted. Monique's face was flushed red as she panted and leaned against Terry's chest. She glanced at me and said, "This is your lesson. You'd better make sure you never forget it.

"If you ever dare to lay a finger on Terry again, I will never let you off this easily."

Then, she left with Terry without another backward glance.

Everyone around us was quiet, and nobody dared to step forward to help me up.

I slowly got to my feet, letting my blood drip onto the floor.

I limped out of the room slowly. As I walked past the bar, I picked up someone's leftover vodka and finished it all in one go.

The spicy liquid burned all the way down my throat, temporarily numbing all the pain and humiliation I felt at that moment.

I then staggered out of the venue, leaned against the wall, and lit up a cigarette. The cigarette burned my fingertips after a while, and I tossed it away and retrieved my phone instead.

The first thing I did was to delete every single photo of Monique from it. Then, I blocked all of her contacts and social media.

Finally, I called Dad.

"Dad, you can stop all businesses with the Waltons for now. Also, I'll agree to the marriage alliance with the Manning family. My only request is that they also immediately halt all business with the Waltons as well."

Monique's legs trembled uncontrollably after hearing Cheryl's account. She never thought that this matter would come back to light after so many years. She might have murdered someone, but she never regretted it. The Waltons were rich and influential, and Teresa was nothing but a poor girl from the slums. Nobody would have even found out if she had killed her.Monique finally lost it and roared, "That's enough! What's the point of you framing me for such heinous crimes, Cheryl Manning? What is it that you want?"Cheryl glanced at Monique, who'd fallen to the ground, and laughed at her mockingly."Honestly, I initially just wanted to help Brayden, but now, I want the truth to be brought to light. I'm going to make you pay for your sins!"Then, she waved her phone in her hands."The people in the poor village were too afraid to stand up against you in the past, but that's fine. There will be someone advocating for them in their place now."Comments continued appearing on the scree

Even though Cheryl had told me that she would handle this controversy, I stubbornly thought of resolving it myself. I didn't want her to look down on me.Monique looked a lot more haggard and worse for wear when we met. There were dark circles under her eyes, and it looked like she hadn't had a proper night's rest for a long time.As soon as she saw me, her eyes sparkled defiantly and she raised her head high, speaking to me in a condescending tone."You've seen what happened online, Brayden Park. I know plenty more ways to skin you, and I can do it if I want to. You're not living a good, peaceful life now anyway, are you?"She then began scrutinizing me carefully and desperately, as if she was eager to see my embarrassment and humiliation after having been exposed by her. However, I just looked at her coldly."It must have been really tough for you to sacrifice so much for a man like Terry, Monique."She immediately responded like I'd just stepped on her tail. She snarled, "Shu

Cheryl's words had me stunned. All this while, Monique had always hidden behind me in the face of controversy, making me deal with the consequences of her own actions. I never thought that there would be a day when someone else would also offer to protect me like this.I smiled helplessly and said, "Cheryl, you know that I'm a man, right? I should be handling this by myself."I didn't think that she would hang up on me as soon as she heard that.I thought about it for a while and still couldn't understand the meaning behind it. Had I said something wrong and made her mad at me?However, about 20 minutes later, Cheryl knocked on my door. I opened the door for her in surprise, but she just patted me on the shoulders and said, "You'll have someone to rely on from today onward."I couldn't help smiling after hearing that. At the very least, I now knew why Mom and Dad liked her so much.Ever since we got engaged, she would come over to our house every few days. Sometimes she would lo

Monique held a hand to her face and stared at me in anger. Although her family situation was nothing less than chaotic, and could never compare to my family's wealth, they were still quite financially secure. Despite living amidst intrigue and backstabbing, she had still been living a pampered princess lifestyle since childhood. On top of that, after realizing my feelings for her, I had always been tolerant and forgiving of her wrongdoings. I already treated her gently, kindly, and magnanimously, but I wouldn't hesitate to get into a brawl with someone else for her sake.In other words, she'd never experienced anything like a slap to the face before. She glared at me and yelled, "Fine! Don't you ever dare to regret your decision now, Brayden Park!"With that, she left without even a backward glance.Only Cheryl and I were left at home. She was still holding on to my hand, and I didn't know what to do.Monique had always been very possessive, and during our relationship, I'd nev

Monique stared at my stern face and suddenly felt a little panicked. She thought that I would be just like how I was in the past, talking to her gently and forgiving her easily without bringing up the past. However, all I did was calmly break off the engagement instead. She knew exactly what it meant by me breaking the engagement off.Her dad, John Walton, was a very promiscuous man who had plenty of mistresses and illegitimate children everywhere. Even though he'd orally said that Monique was the sole heiress, there were plenty of other step-siblings who were eyeing her place. She never dared to take a single step toward them and only rose to her position within the family because of her engagement to me. That was the only reason she'd even been able to speak to her dad on the same level at all.But now, I'd broken it off with her, and she began berating me like a madwoman."Are you out of your head, Brayden Park? I'm telling you that you're going to regret this for the rest of

Dad completely understood my feelings then, but he still had quite a shock."Are you alright, Brayden? I thought I really didn't like the Manning family's daughter. Maybe we should just forget about it," he tried, asking tentatively.I had always been following Monique around like a shadow since I was young. A "betrothal" made as a joke actually made me pathetically believe that I was her destined fiance in the future.I even thought that Monique would see how sincere I was toward her despite Terry's appearance as long as I treated her well, but I was just too naive for my own good.Monique had always had things go smoothly for her in whatever she did, and she had never endured any hardships in life before. The only thing that ever made her derail was Terry. And so, what could I, her fiance who always let her have things her way, even mean anything to her anyway?…The Manning family's reply was almost instantaneous.Even though the scandal from the engagement party had already
