Chapter 1

Wendy Lindell's red sports car slowed to a stop in front of the school gates.

Once the door opened, Wendy stepped out in a high-quality tailored outfit. Her makeup was perfect, and a smile lit up her face.

I felt my heart leap in joy and was about to go greet her when the door to the passenger's seat opened and a man walked out of the car.

It was Zachary Shea. He was one of Wendy's important business partners, and he was also the heir to the Shea family fortune.

The moment he stepped out of the car, he reached out and wrapped an arm around Wendy's waist.

He looked at me with a raised eyebrow as if showing off his dominance.

Before I could say anything, my daughter's eyes lit up. Quincy tossed my hand away and rushed forward excitedly.

"Uncle Zach! Is my customized music box here?"

A tender smile immediately bloomed on Zachary's face. He took a delicate gift box out of the pocket of his suit jacket and passed it to Quincy.

"Of course. I would never forget a promise I made to you. I'll buy you whatever you want from now on."

"Thank you, Uncle Zach! You're so much better than my naggy old dad!"

She held the gift box tightly as she stood by Zachary without even looking back at me.

I froze, feeling my blood turn to ice in my veins.

I looked at Quincy, who stuck her tongue out at me before turning to hug Zachary's leg.

Wendy approached me. She didn't look guilty at all. Instead, she looked impatient.

"Who told you you could come on your own? I told you I would handle it. Look at what you're wearing. It's way too casual. The school board is going to think we can't afford good things."

I looked down at my outfit. It was a high-quality casual set with no obvious brand logos plastered on it.

I looked at her with a frown. "Wendy, what's the meaning of this? What is he doing here?"

Before Wendy could speak, Zachary scoffed lightly. It was a sound that was full of disdain.

"Mr. Howards, you're probably uneducated about the world of business. After all, all you do is clean the house and take care of Quincy. You didn't even know that today was the day that Lindell Corp officially got on the market. Wendy and I have been partners for years, and she needs a proper companion.

"That's why I joined the celebration party with her, which made us a little late. You probably won't blame us for that, right, Mr. Howards?"

I suppressed the rage burning in my chest as I looked at Wendy. How did I not know it was the day Lindell Corp joined the market?

At that moment, a teacher from the international school approached us and politely reminded us, "Ms. Lindell, Mr. Howards, the interview is about to end. Please give us the necessary documents as soon as possible."

Wendy huffed impatiently in response, but she was looking at Zachary.

My frown deepened as my frustration began to build.

This was about Quincy's future. I spent a year carefully paving the road for her. Was Wendy about to let Zachary swoop in and claim all my hard work?

I quickly stepped forward and handed my marriage certificate to the teacher.

"Hello. This is our marriage certificate. We have already handed in the rest of the documents prior to this."

The teacher nodded politely after taking the marriage certificate from me. She turned and walked into the school.

Wendy's expression immediately darkened.

As for Zachary, he stood next to her with his arms crossed. He had a cold smirk on his face as if he was waiting for something to happen.

I felt confused. What did their demeanor mean?

I looked at the woman groveling at my feet. All I felt was disgust."Wendy," I said slowly. "Do you know what you did wrong?"She seemed to see a glimmer of hope and nodded hurriedly. "I know. I shouldn't have lied to you, and I shouldn't have cheated on you with Zachary. I shouldn't have—" "No," I said, cutting her off. "Your biggest mistake was never being satisfied. I settled all the household matters. You enjoyed my thoughtfulness, but also wanted the reputation and resources that the Shea family could give you. "You saw me as a reliable sanctuary, but Zachary was the one you showed off to the world. "You thought you could control everything, but you forgot that power is a double-edged sword."I pulled my leg out of her clutches and stepped back to distance myself from her."Also," I said, looking at her messy, tear-streaked face. "Don't ever say you love me again. Your love is worthless, and I think it's disgusting."I turned and walked toward the Rolls-Royce Phantom, s

Zachary and Wendy both collapsed to the ground, as if they had lost all feeling in their legs.I walked toward them and stared down at them as if I was looking at rubbish."Wendy, I gave your family a chance to turn Lindell Corp from a D-grade company to a top-class company. I did it because I loved you and because I loved our family. I hid my identity so that we could be a regular couple that didn't have to care about money or status."I let you become the CEO because I wanted to make your dreams come true, but you treated me as an obstacle that you chewed up and spat out."I looked at her and said almost tonelessly, "If I could save you, I can toss you away just as easily."I scoffed. "My bad. I didn't just save you. I was the only reason you could survive."My words completely destroyed the last shred of sanity that Wendy and Zachary had left.Zachary was completely expressionless. His gaze was dead and empty as he chanted, "It's over. It's all over…"The Shea family was ban

"Guards!" Lindsay roared. Two bodyguards approached and dragged the screaming, crying Zachary away as if he were just a sack of rubbish.I ignored his desperate cries and walked slowly toward Wendy. I looked at her contorted face and said calmly, "Wendy, I remember you said that you could call yourself the richest woman in Javeton since I called myself the school's chairman."With a scoff, I continued, "Sorry, but that's a no-go. I'm the richest person in Javeton, and…" I paused before saying, "This school is just one of my many ventures."Wendy shook her head in disbelief. She stammered out, "I-Impossible. How could you be the richest person in Javeton?"Coldly, I replied, "Why not? As if you have a chance. Did you really think you became the CEO because of your skills, or because of the Shea family's help? You're just a piece of useless trash. Your mom didn't even try to rely on you for help. I was the one she asked to help save Lindell Corp from bankruptcy."I stepped toward W

I began speaking into the receiver in a scarily calm voice. "Ms. Lindell, this is Terence. I'm at Erudite International School. In ten minutes, come and settle your family's mess."The moment I finished speaking, Wendy and Zachary looked at each other before breaking out into laughter. "Hahaha! He's insane! How can he be so confident? I can't believe he's still putting on this act!" Wendy could barely stand straight with how hard she was laughing."My family's mess? Terence, who do you think you are? A king? Listen. Even if you were a king, I still wouldn't be scared of you!"Zachary waved a hand and said mockingly, "Let's go! Let's go wait at the gates. I'd like to see who he hired to show up for him in ten minutes!"They strolled toward the school gates.Soon enough, they all heard a loud screech of tires. They all looked in the direction of the loud noise. They saw a long line of cars with a black Rolls-Royce Phantom at the very front. The succession was speeding toward the

When Vincent hung up, he was barely even able to stand up straight. When he looked at me again, his expression was no longer tinged with disdain. Instead, he looked at me with fear and respect."Mr. Lynch, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and stamp our enrollment form. My time is expensive, you know. A single minute could cost millions of dollars," Wendy said impatiently when she saw that Vincent hadn't stamped their form yet.Instead of answering her, Vincent shot upright. He almost flipped the desk in his rush to stand up.He walked around the huge desk and hurriedly approached me.Then, he did something that made everyone's jaw drop.He began to grovel toward me. He said loudly, "Mr. Howards! W-What are you doing here? I'm so sorry for not noticing your presence earlier! Please forgive me for my lack of respect!"The moment he said that, the room fell silent.Wendy's smile immediately froze.Zachary's eyes widened in disbelief as he dropped his coffee cup."Mr. Lynch, yo

I laughed. "Wendy, if I'm a hooligan, then you're a street rat. Your mother chose me to be your husband. Are you sure you want to do that to me?"Wendy's expression faltered for a moment, but she quickly calmed down and smirked disdainfully. "So what if my mom chose you? I was just being polite, but I guess you mistook it for kindness. You didn't assume I loved you just because I married you, right?"Zachary became even more cocky after hearing Wendy publicly insult me."Terence, you can't blame Wendy. You only have yourself to blame for being so gullible. You're just a nobody. How can you help her with her career? I can give her Shea Group's resources and help her rise to new heights. What do you have to offer? Your love? That's worthless!"I shook with anger. My fury rushed to my head, and I raised a hand, about to slap her. However, Wendy grabbed my wrist and screamed, "Can you stop? Terence, stop embarrassing yourself!"She tossed my wrist away, causing me to stumble backward
