TWENTY-FOUR: A HELPING HAND II

Still holding on to the tray of coffee, Elaine suddenly became conflicted. She had been too busy eavesdropping to remember to drop the coffee in and now that she was gone, what exactly was she supposed to do?

Walk in and pretend to not have noticed Mya’s departure or return to the office and risk Rachael wondering why she didn’t give them their coffee ages ago.

The latter seemed like the least feasible one of her choices especially since she couldn’t deny, was curious about what Alexander was still doing in the meeting room. He should have stepped out few seconds after his mother took her leave but instead, he was still indoors, locked.

Summoning the courage, she tightened her grip around the tray and returned to the meeting room, immediately placing a knock on the door. One Alexander surprisingly replied to immediately.

“Come in.”

“Mr. Xavier,” her voice was soft as she stepped in. “I brought you coffee.”

He was standing by the farthest end of the office, hands tucked in his pocket,
