LOGINAnna sat in the helicopter, her eyes puffy with tears. Somewhere deep within her, she wished the helicopter would crash. She couldn’t move an inch with her father’s men watching her.
It all felt like a terrifying nightmare to her, she prayed for it to end—but it was all real, too real. She had thought her life was already miserable but the rapid twist…, tears brimmed in the corner of her eyes.
In no time, the long-dreaded moment came. They arrived in Italy—Vincenzo Empire. They stopped at an airport, and the longer they waited for Vincenzo’s men to show up, the faster her heart beat in her ribcage.
The men’s keen eyes were on her—they knew if she managed to slip through their fingers, they would be dead.
And then they came—the men the Don had sent himself. The leader of her father’s men walked up to them, and they exchanged words in Italian, none of which she could understand.
One handshake was all it took for them to hand her over. Her body trembled, her blood ran cold.
She was led into a black SUV, and just like that, she was taken to the clan. The ride was long, and despite how deep into the night it was, she didn’t bat her lids. She couldn’t dare close her eyes.
A black gate stood tall and eerie, welcoming them. This was it—Vincenzo Clan. She shuddered. The dark gray walls made her phobia worsen. She could only imagine the terror awaiting her behind those gates.
The gates opened, and it was nothing like the Lorenzo Empire. Her forehead creased in fear and worry at the forest path that greeted them. Were they here to kill her? And dump her body somewhere?
Her hands shook as they drove past the path, thick forest on both sides. The forest seemed never-ending, stretching for miles. She swallowed. She was seated between two large men—she couldn’t bolt, and even if she managed to, she’d be shot down and wild animals would certainly gobble her up.
Thankfully, they passed the forest, and a large mansion greeted her. The gates opened, and they drove in. They were here—Vincenzo Empire.
She got out of the car, and they led her inside. The walls were dark gray, the ceilings high, and something thick lingered in the air. Golden dim lights, luxury, and power filled the place. But she wasn’t here to admire the antique decor—she was here to see the Don.
They led her to a lounge.
“Sit,” one of the men ordered.
Her eyes took in the room—glass walls, gray sofas, and an enigmatic chandelier hung from the high ceiling, casting golden lights.
Her body shook fervently. She was in enemy territory. Her eyes fell on the glass windows. She could jump, but the odds of ending up with a broken neck were very high.
Then the door pushed open, snapping her out of her thoughts.
Three bulky men stepped in, draped in expensive suits—and then he walked in. The Don of Vincenzo Empire. Her heart caught in her throat.
Midnight black hair, black eyes, features sharp, and a gaze as cold as death.
She had only seen him on the news once or twice—never had she thought she’d meet him in person. She straightened her back when his shrewd eyes landed on her.
“Miss Lorenzo,” his words were low but thick in the air. “Welcome.”
He dismissed his guards, and then it was just the two of them left in the room. His movements—everything he did—were poised and calculated. Well, he was the Don of the strongest mafia group in the world.
“I won’t harm you, little child. Loosen up those stiff little shoulders,” he chuckled. Anna wondered why he even bothered to pacify her. Why did he care?
“A… a pleasure meeting you, Don Vincenzo,” Anna stammered, her gaze lowered to the floor.
“Likewise.”
No more words were exchanged before the door flung open. An average-height but sturdy man stepped inside, his blonde hair ruffled, his green eyes burning with rage.
“Warn that fuckin’ piece of trash or I’ll break him in half,” he snarled.
Anna gulped. Was he the Don’s son—the one she was to marry?
The Don’s eyes flickered with annoyance. “Sit, Domenico,” he ordered. And even though the man was obviously angry, he didn’t dare defy the Don.
He sat in the chair closest to her, and then his eyes snapped to stare—no, glare—at her. Anna shrunk in her seat.
“Is she…” he half-questioned the Don.
“Yes, Domenico. This is Anna Lorenzo—your wife to be.”
Anna’s heart dropped. The way he stared at her after the air had been cleared—it felt like he wanted to engulf her in flames.
She parted her lips to speak, but then someone else stepped into the room.
Sturdy. Extremely tall. Midnight black hair. And those gray orbs. Anna felt cold sweat roll down her back. It was him—the murderer she had seen in that dark alley. His cologne instantly lit up the room. Anna almost couldn’t breathe.
Things constantly moved from bad to worse. Why was he here? Everyone knew the Don had only one son, whom he had just introduced—Domenico. So why was this killer here?
“You motherfucker—I’ll definitely kill you!” Domenico snapped, not giving a damn that Anna was in the same room.
“Hm? How did you know?” An enigmatic smirk rested on his lips. “Mother and I… had a good time.”
His words enraged Domenico even more, and he instantly sprang up, throwing a punch at him—but Leone easily caught it.
“Where’s your etiquette? You shouldn’t be doing this in the presence of our… visitor,” he drawled. Then his eyes fell on her.
Anna felt like her heart was about to leap from her chest. His eyes locked with hers. A smirk rested on his lips, but his gaze… as cold as the night they met.
“Anna, my second son…” Enzo drawled, as if his own words left a bitter taste in his mouth. “Leone.”
Chapter 220She stumbled backwards and might’ve lost her footing if she hadn’t held on to the shelf for support. He truly stretched wide, and with trembling hands, she picked up the letter once more. Was this some kind of joke??? The letter was a newsletter reading: ‘The tragic passing of Donna Lisa Pietro’.Seems like someone had done this to mess with her or scare her. Whoever had done this would definitely pay for it, because she couldn’t let this slide. Her mind wandered, and she almost fished her phone to call Leone, but she had to stop herself midway. What was she calling him for?The best thing to do was to figure out the culprit who had dared pull this prank. She summoned her secretary.“Did anyone come here?” She fixed her composure as she asked her.Riele slowly shook her head. “No one came in here, and I always made sure the office was locked at all times.”Anna didn’t want anyone in Singapore to know she was tangled up in the mafia; she had left that mafia business in Hong
Chapter 219It had been a tough decision to make, but she had come to an absolute decision. Perhaps they weren’t meant to be together; perhaps their relationship couldn’t be fixed; perhaps she needed space away from him.“Peach….” His face fell upon her words, and then his eyes moved to land on her aunt, Rebecca, who stood at a considerable distance, watching them.He could feel his heart slowly ripping in half in his chest. “I—”“We can talk about joint custody for the kids when I return from Singapore. Take care of the kids till then,” she cut him off sharply. She put on her dark shades, then stepped into the car. She revved the engine to life and then drove out of the mansion. As much as she wanted to put on a brave front, as much as she wanted to pretend like she wasn’t hurting, she couldn’t, and a tear slid past her eyes. She gripped the steering wheel tightly as she stared at the road ahead of her. It was high time she accepted that both of them weren’t working out; the more the
Chapter 218She glared at him with so much intensity, like she would kill him if he weren’t the father of her children. Anna really didn’t want to hear any of his explanations; the truth remained that he had such a big secret from her. If he really loved her, he wouldn’t do such a thing, but I guess she was being delusional to expect a hundred percent love from this person.“I don’t want to speak with you, let me be and leave!! Please,” she tugged her hair in frustration.No. She would be the one to leave, because that’s the only way to maintain a complete distance from this man. She needed some time alone to process this extent of betrayal and to process everything else that had happened before.Leone parted his lips to say something but instantly clamped them shut, and then he stepped away from her and left the room.Anna didn’t look at him once; she sank deeper into the bed. She was so exhausted she couldn’t even cry anymore. She felt drained in and out; there was nothing that coul
Chapter 217The truth was, he hadn’t really been thinking; he had badly wanted to escape the guilt. He hadn’t thought that his actions would cost their kids becoming fatherless, not like he had been the best father. He had told himself he would be better, but as it seemed, he was slowly losing his damn mind. He wasn’t this person; he wasn’t one to act without thinking. It was just… he groaned tiredly, running his hand through his hair.He was no coward; he was not one to run and hide when the issue required him to take full responsibility. He was a fool, a big one.“Thanks for saving me, Massimo.”Massimo rolled his eyes. “I would keep today’s event between us. Enzo called; he was worried, but I didn’t mention your act of stupidity.”Leone palmed his face. Enzo—he had thrown him under the running bus while talking with Anna before he left the house. He was really a dick. Enzo hadn’t been the one to kill Anna’s parents…..“You should get going; your presence irks me to no end.” Massimo
Chapter 216Massimo, who had discreetly followed Leone, rolled his eyes as he watched him jump down the cliff.“Idiot,” he shook his head. He knew he would do something so foolish, which was why he had been sticking around for this very moment and had tailed Leone here.He could only imagine how he felt right now. He couldn’t say he felt his pain; only fools fall in love. Oh well, love was indeed painful—to think someone as powerful and intellectual as Leone could be reduced to this utmost point of stupidity because of some damn love.He drew in smoke from his stick of weed and puffed it out from both his mouth and nose. He couldn’t wait to get something more exciting to do; then he could be free from this damn babysitting job. If only his old man was still alive, if only he had stalled his death a bit more…He checked the time on his watch. It was exactly 2 a.m. He leaned on his car. He should let Leone suffer a bit longer before saving him; that was his penalty for being such an id
Chapter 215The loud gunshot sound spilled out of the room. Leone froze instantly, and without a second thought, he burst the door open. His heart raced madly in his chest when he saw Anna on the floor, holding the gun while she remained in a dazed state. Her hand was wrapped firmly around the gun, a bullet hole on the wall.“Peach.” He rushed to her and held her shoulders, observing her body to make sure she wasn’t hurt anywhere. He sighed in relief; she wasn’t hurt. When he had heard the gunshot, he had thought the worst had happened. He was extremely glad she was okay.He slowly wrapped his hands around the gun, pulling it from her grip, and she continued to stare at him like he was someone she had never met before. His heart squeezed from guilt. He had broken her; he had hurt her beyond repair. He was so stupid, so foolish for allowing his fear to take control of him. He shouldn’t have kept this from her.“Anna, I’m sorry. I really am. Hate me all you want, but I beg you with ever
