Mag-log inAnna sat in the helicopter, her eyes puffy with tears. Somewhere deep within her, she wished the helicopter would crash. She couldn’t move an inch with her father’s men watching her.
It all felt like a terrifying nightmare to her, she prayed for it to end—but it was all real, too real. She had thought her life was already miserable but the rapid twist…, tears brimmed in the corner of her eyes.
In no time, the long-dreaded moment came. They arrived in Italy—Vincenzo Empire. They stopped at an airport, and the longer they waited for Vincenzo’s men to show up, the faster her heart beat in her ribcage.
The men’s keen eyes were on her—they knew if she managed to slip through their fingers, they would be dead.
And then they came—the men the Don had sent himself. The leader of her father’s men walked up to them, and they exchanged words in Italian, none of which she could understand.
One handshake was all it took for them to hand her over. Her body trembled, her blood ran cold.
She was led into a black SUV, and just like that, she was taken to the clan. The ride was long, and despite how deep into the night it was, she didn’t bat her lids. She couldn’t dare close her eyes.
A black gate stood tall and eerie, welcoming them. This was it—Vincenzo Clan. She shuddered. The dark gray walls made her phobia worsen. She could only imagine the terror awaiting her behind those gates.
The gates opened, and it was nothing like the Lorenzo Empire. Her forehead creased in fear and worry at the forest path that greeted them. Were they here to kill her? And dump her body somewhere?
Her hands shook as they drove past the path, thick forest on both sides. The forest seemed never-ending, stretching for miles. She swallowed. She was seated between two large men—she couldn’t bolt, and even if she managed to, she’d be shot down and wild animals would certainly gobble her up.
Thankfully, they passed the forest, and a large mansion greeted her. The gates opened, and they drove in. They were here—Vincenzo Empire.
She got out of the car, and they led her inside. The walls were dark gray, the ceilings high, and something thick lingered in the air. Golden dim lights, luxury, and power filled the place. But she wasn’t here to admire the antique decor—she was here to see the Don.
They led her to a lounge.
“Sit,” one of the men ordered.
Her eyes took in the room—glass walls, gray sofas, and an enigmatic chandelier hung from the high ceiling, casting golden lights.
Her body shook fervently. She was in enemy territory. Her eyes fell on the glass windows. She could jump, but the odds of ending up with a broken neck were very high.
Then the door pushed open, snapping her out of her thoughts.
Three bulky men stepped in, draped in expensive suits—and then he walked in. The Don of Vincenzo Empire. Her heart caught in her throat.
Midnight black hair, black eyes, features sharp, and a gaze as cold as death.
She had only seen him on the news once or twice—never had she thought she’d meet him in person. She straightened her back when his shrewd eyes landed on her.
“Miss Lorenzo,” his words were low but thick in the air. “Welcome.”
He dismissed his guards, and then it was just the two of them left in the room. His movements—everything he did—were poised and calculated. Well, he was the Don of the strongest mafia group in the world.
“I won’t harm you, little child. Loosen up those stiff little shoulders,” he chuckled. Anna wondered why he even bothered to pacify her. Why did he care?
“A… a pleasure meeting you, Don Vincenzo,” Anna stammered, her gaze lowered to the floor.
“Likewise.”
No more words were exchanged before the door flung open. An average-height but sturdy man stepped inside, his blonde hair ruffled, his green eyes burning with rage.
“Warn that fuckin’ piece of trash or I’ll break him in half,” he snarled.
Anna gulped. Was he the Don’s son—the one she was to marry?
The Don’s eyes flickered with annoyance. “Sit, Domenico,” he ordered. And even though the man was obviously angry, he didn’t dare defy the Don.
He sat in the chair closest to her, and then his eyes snapped to stare—no, glare—at her. Anna shrunk in her seat.
“Is she…” he half-questioned the Don.
“Yes, Domenico. This is Anna Lorenzo—your wife to be.”
Anna’s heart dropped. The way he stared at her after the air had been cleared—it felt like he wanted to engulf her in flames.
She parted her lips to speak, but then someone else stepped into the room.
Sturdy. Extremely tall. Midnight black hair. And those gray orbs. Anna felt cold sweat roll down her back. It was him—the murderer she had seen in that dark alley. His cologne instantly lit up the room. Anna almost couldn’t breathe.
Things constantly moved from bad to worse. Why was he here? Everyone knew the Don had only one son, whom he had just introduced—Domenico. So why was this killer here?
“You motherfucker—I’ll definitely kill you!” Domenico snapped, not giving a damn that Anna was in the same room.
“Hm? How did you know?” An enigmatic smirk rested on his lips. “Mother and I… had a good time.”
His words enraged Domenico even more, and he instantly sprang up, throwing a punch at him—but Leone easily caught it.
“Where’s your etiquette? You shouldn’t be doing this in the presence of our… visitor,” he drawled. Then his eyes fell on her.
Anna felt like her heart was about to leap from her chest. His eyes locked with hers. A smirk rested on his lips, but his gaze… as cold as the night they met.
“Anna, my second son…” Enzo drawled, as if his own words left a bitter taste in his mouth. “Leone.”
Chapter 160 Anna clutched the strap of her bag tightly. No, she mustn’t give in. She wouldn’t. She was here with him to find the kids and that was it. When she left him after he had brought her to Hong Kong, she thought that would be the last time she would breathe the same air he did, but she had been dead wrong. Things had taken a sharp turn in such a way that they had met on countless occasions after that. She took a deep breath in, tipping her chin up, her eyes met his briefly and then she stepped into the car. Leone got back in and then he drove them out of there.Anna pressed her lips tightly as the drive continued. She looked outside the window, her mind helplessly drifting back to the time they had gone on a drive just like this one in Madagascar. A smile nearly formed on her lips but she instantly bit down on her lips.Once upon a time, he was her Prince Charming. She had never thought he would become her worst nightmare. He had broken her, his betrayal had crumbled her in p
Chapter 159 She placed her smaller hand in his, he gently ran his thumb over her fingers, she shivered, not from the cold but from something else. She cleared her throat, pulling her hand away from his hold and then she stood on her feet, now coming face to face with him…more like she craned her neck to stare at him while he stared down at her. Even while she wore heels she couldn’t match his enormous height. Now staring directly at him, she realized how close he was to her as they were now standing underneath his black umbrella. She attempted to take a step back from him but her leg came in contact with the front of her car.She took her lips to wet them, now that she wasn’t so emotional about how things were going. She tilted her head up, staring at him dead in the eye; “You don’t have to bother yourself with this, I can find the kids myself, my men are the most skilled in the country and we would be—““It wasn’t a question your highness, I know I’m the worst father ever but that d
Chapter 158Disappointment sunk deep into her bones. What was she going to do now? She had put all her hopes on the fact that the kids were there; she had placed all her bets on the idea that Leone had taken her kids just to spite her, but she had been wrong.Leone hadn’t taken them, and that meant someone else did—probably someone from a rival mafia group who wanted to get back at her. A gush of cold wind brushed down her spine as reality sank in even harder.Right now, she knew nothing about the kids’ whereabouts or how they were faring. What if something bad had happened?“No,” she muttered, staggering backwards; her back hit the wall. She spared Leone one last glance and then bolted out of the mansion and into her car, speedily driving away. She stepped on the accelerator with so much force that it practically sent her flying down the road. Her eyes welled up with tears as she recounted the few moments she had spent with the kids today. It had been roughly three hours since they’d
Chapter 157Her hands tightened around the steering wheel, her eyes burned with unshed tears. A sleek black Rolls-Royce Sweptail drove with maddening speed in front of her.She stepped on the accelerator, chasing him. She couldn’t let him out of her sight, so no matter how fast the car sped, she matched his pace even if she couldn’t overtake him. The chase went on for almost an hour until he sped through a black gate and Anna followed immediately. She stepped out of the car just in time to see him getting down from his car as well, a look of surprise marring his face. “What are you doing here, Anna?”His question was followed by a slap on his cheek and before he could recover, Anna slapped him once more. “You piece of shit,” she grabbed his shirt. “Where are they? Where did you take them?!” she yelled. His men moved toward them, pointing their guns at her, but Leone raised his hand, signaling them to back off. “It’s fine.”He stared back at Anna, who was still breathing heavily, but A
Chapter 156Just one phone call had both Rocco and James here in an instant, and they didn’t come alone. They brought some men from the Pietro Empire.“Let’s get one thing straight here,” Rocco’s voice thundered. The attendants and other people who were present at the restaurant sat captive, visibly shaking with fear. The whole restaurant was surrounded by their hitmen carrying guns and weapons.“No one is leaving this place till we find our kids. The sooner you provide the needed information, the better for you!” The room fell dead silent.Anna paced restlessly, her hands clammy with sweat. All this seemed like some terrifying nightmare to her. She had thought the kids had wandered off somewhere, but it had been an hour since they went missing. Her kids would never do that. Her kids would never play such a prank on her.Their ice creams remained half-eaten on the table; it seemed like they had disappeared without a single trace. Oh dear Lord, she had been gone for no more than ten mi
Chapter 155Dressed in a blue floral gown, Anna stood in the outdoor garden where the breeze blew her hair to and fro. Some errant strands came to lay on her eye, but she tucked them behind her ear.“You wanted to see me?”Rocco’s voice had her turning to see him standing right behind her. “Ahh, yes.” She took her lips in to wet them. “Things have been rather rough since the wedding… I’m sorry for how things unfolded. It wasn’t my intention for things to go downhill so fast. I’m sorry about the wedding; I know it must’ve been rather embarrassing,” she apologized.Truth was, she had been rather embarrassed about how things turned out, which was why she hadn’t been able to confront Rocco about it since the mishap occurred. But now that things were settled, now that he was gone, she felt this was the right time to talk about things.“It’s not your fault things happened the way they did. There’s nothing to be sorry about,” Rocco sighed out.Anna mustered a smile. “Thanks for understanding
