I Love You, Mom.

Scarlett feigned sadness as she walked into the living room.

Clarissa’s brows knitted in worry as she walked up to her with Levi on her hip, “How did it go Scarr?”

She exhaled and plopped down on the sofa.

Clarissa came up beside her and smoothed her hair, “It doesn’t matter how this interview went, this was just one out of the many you can...”

“I got the job mum!” she cut in a cheery voice.

“Holy shit!” Clarissa blurted out before she could stop herself.

Scarlett’s eyes widened in alarm, “Mom!” she leaned forward and took Levi from her, showering him with kisses.

Her hands went over her mouth. “You had me genuinely worried when you walked in with that long face…” she playfully swatted her arm.

Scarlett leaned away from her, her eyes turned into slits as she burst into laughter.

Clarissa pulled her into a hug and kissed her forehead. “I am so proud of you Scarr…”

Her eyes crinkled at the corners as her lips curled into a smile. “Thank you, mom,”

Later that evening, when Levi was fast asleep, Scarlett filled her in on everything that happened at the company. She was resting her head on Clarissa’s thigh in the large sofa in the living room. They were seeing rerun episodes of their favourite horror series.

Clarissa absent-mindedly ran her fingers through Scarlett’s hair. Scarlett shut her eyes and let out a satisfied hum. It was the most relaxing thing ever, to be in her mother’s arms. For the longest, her mother had been a steady handy holding her through whatever challenges life threw at her. In her mother’s arms, she didn’t have to worry. “How did your day go, ma?”

“The same old…” she answered.

Scarlett knew her mother better than anyone, she would carry the world on her shoulders without a care in the world and no complain on her lips. “So that means, your day was stressful? Levi was handful, you could not get to the daycare on time, you had breakfast at noon, Levi put up such a fuss and you had to be home early, which explains why you had such a large dinner prepared before I got back…”

Clarissa shook her head.

Scarlett sat upright, “Mom, I am really so…”

“You have nothing to be sorry about, didn’t I tell you already?” she cut in, “I love my grandson so much, he could never be so much trouble, you on the other hand, well that’s a different case entirely.” They burst into laughter.

Scarlett relaxed. “I am going to make it up to you mom, you know that…”

“Shhh…” she placed a forefinger over her lip. “I love you too much already, you do not have to do anything else for me to love you more. I am so proud of you and how much you have had to endure to get here, Scarr…” She cupped her cheeks, “I thought I was going to lose you by this time last year and the thought was terrifying. The thought was like having my whole heart violently ripped from my chest. You went through the most trying time in your life and came out with a beautiful bundle of joy. Now look at you, picking up the pieces of your life and getting it together…”

Scarlett flicked away tears from her eyes, “Okay, if you don’t stop mom, I am going to end up a blubbering mess…”

Clarissa sniffled, “I think I am going to end up a blubbering mess whenever I remember I have to get used to you on blonde hair.” She teased.

Scarlett burst into laughter. It was always like this with her mother. Despite whatever it was they were going through, there would always be a reason to smile.

After she left Paris with the weight of her betrayal and disappointment weighing on her, she had gone back to her small town but she didn’t feel better. It didn’t help that she kept bumping into Luke at every turn, almost very day. He was apologetic for the first week but apparently, he gave up on it the following week because she would bump into him with different girls the next time.

Sometimes she would recognize the girls. She had this little game in her head she played, where she gave the girls names and based off how many times she saw them with him, she tried to figure out whom he loved the most.

His plea for forgiveness turned to polite greetings, later it was just a mere acknowledgement as she walked by, in the end it was nothing. It was like she never existed, like he could not see her walk by.

It didn’t help that they lived in the a very small town and everyone knew them together, at first it was pitiful stares, some were bold enough to walk up to her and apologize. At first, she didn’t understand why there was so much sympathy. It was later she found out from a co-worker that Luke had been doing a lot of talking around town about the “huge vacation” he was planning. She was losing her mind bits by bits, trying to make sense of everything. Until she fell sick at work and was confirmed pregnant.

As if she was not already going through a lot, the pregnancy came with its troubles, her mental health was on a steady decline. Her deteriorating health didn’t allow her go back to work. She was crawling in debts and suicidal. Her mother had showed up just in time to save her.

Even as she reminisced on that time of her life, she was glad of where she was presently and grateful for her mother.

“I am honestly torn between just outing myself to him or letting the joke go on for as long as I can” she said with a tinge of amusement in her voice.

Clarissa chuckled, “He sounds like he has a stick up his ass, I would love to see his reaction much later, when it is a little too late…”

“I love you, mom.” She said with a smile on her face.

“Okay, enough of the touchy-feely stuff...” Clarissa protested. Even though she didn’t say the words out loud, Scarlett could hear her say it loud and clear.

Lucious arrived fashionably late, as always, for Mrs. Grayson’s birthday celebration. Through no fault of his own, his flight had been delayed. He rushed in when the party was already underway, grabbed a glass of champagne, and blended in with the merry crowd. His eyes searched the room for familiar faces, and then he spotted her: Scarlett Knowles. She looked beautiful in the blue and white floral dress she was wearing. He rushed towards her, grabbed her shoulders from behind, and exclaimed, “Hello, Scarlett!”She turned around sharply, her eyes widening in excitement. “Lucious! You got here late. I was beginning to think you wouldn’t come anymore!”He rolled his eyes. “I had the most hectic flight, you won’t believe it…” He let out a big exhale and fanned himself with his hands. “The flight got delayed, and we encountered some difficulties on the way here. I should have just listened to Mr. King's advice and flown private…”Scarlett gave him a knowing gaze. “Mr. King, huh?”Lucious g

  • Entangled with the Billionaire    Happy birthday!

“Happy birthday to you...” Everyone's voices rose together in a slightly off-key rendition of "Happy Birthday."Belinda beamed, glowing as her family and friends sang together for her. They were all gathered at a hall in the resort. Her birthday celebration was a small, cozy event. At the end of the rendition, everyone stepped forward to personally wish her a happy birthday and hug her.Her husband, Mr. Grayson walked up to her, beaming with smiles. He opened a jewelry box and revealed a diamond necklace. “I had one especially made just for you, there’s only one special gem, just like you...” He leaned close and kissed the top of her head. There were a lot of "aww's" from the crowd. She shut her eyes. “Thank you, my love.”Her grandchildren, Loretta and Levi, had brought gifts for her: handmade cards and letters. It was the cutest thing. Levi’s gifts were mostly illegible scribblings, while Loretta’s were more meaningful, but she loved and appreciated every one of them.Cameron and Va

Vanessa walked into the lounge, her hands folded across her chest, “Cameron! Cameron!” She yelled aloud as she walked in.He rolled his eyes, “Nessa, it says relaxing lounge for a reason,” he gestured towards the sign at the door. She glanced at it and back at her scruffy-looking brother, “Yes, I can see that it clearly says relaxing lounge and has a no alcohol policy so what’s that about?” she pointed at the half-full bottle of whisky by his side.He exhaled, “Does it matter? We bought out the whole place. The rules don’t apply anymore.”She walked up to him, “I don’t think that’s how rules work, but you’ve never been one to abide by any rule ever, so I can’t say I’m surprised.”He groaned, the last thing, okay maybe not the last thing. The second to last thing he wanted to hear was his sister’s bickering. The last thing was definitely his mother's voice chiding him for something, “What are you here for, Vanessa?”She gave him a long look. He lay on the couch, his hair overgrown, spo

Cameron bit down on his lips, liking the way she called out his name softly. It made him rock hard. “I want to bend you over right now, right here, and make love to you until your body shakes in excitement. I’d like to hear you cry out my name as you beg me to make love to you, knowing no other man will ever give you pleasure like I would, knowing it will never be enough…”Scarlett let out a small squeak. He spun her around until she was facing him and pulled her close. Her breasts were pressed up against him, almost spilling out of her dress. He stared at them with a burning look of desire in his eyes.Jaxon was fuming where he stood. Somewhere in the middle of the song, he had stopped pretending like he wanted to dance. He just stopped and stared at them. His hands were clenched into fists. Cameron’s hands were roaming, whispering into Scarlett’s ears, and she looked like she was enjoying it, every bit of it. Her eyes were shut, and she was leaning into Cameron. She had no fear for

It was going to be fun, alright! Cameron gulped down two more shots, loving the burn of the liquid as it trickled down his throat. This was what he needed. He turned around to leave. Jaxon finalized their order before he left.Cameron was only halfway towards Scarlett and Hadley when a familiar song came on the speakers. He stopped in his tracks to listen, his lips curling into a small smile. He looked up to meet those bright blue eyes staring at him with flushed cheeks. He knew exactly what she was thinking about at the moment. He walked up to her and grabbed her, “Shall I have the first dance, Scarr?”Scarlett looked around in worry.Hadley opened her mouth in protest, “Cam—”“Oh, it’s only an old-fashioned dance, love,” he cut in. “It will be good for us, remember?” he used her exact words against her.Hadley frowned.“What the hell, man?” Jaxon protested when he saw Cameron was holding hands with her.Cameron spun around to face Jaxon, still holding onto her. “Oh, it’s only a danc

As they got out of the car, Hadley leaned forward, cupped his cheeks, and kissed him, “This will be good for us.”Cameron stared at her hesitantly.“I promise.” She leaned into him, grabbed his hand, and put it around her waist, “You’ve been stuck up all day, overthinking, worrying...” She pulled at his cheeks, “You’re beginning to have worry lines. You’re in need of a good rest…”He gave her a look. She burst into soft laughter, “Yes, you need rest and you’ll rest later tonight. You’re also in need of some fun. I don’t think you have enjoyed any bit of our trip here. You can’t keep wallowing in your problems, let loose and let’s party!”He glanced at the neon flashing sign; it read Club Dazzle. They had driven a long way to find the club. Apparently, it was a hotspot for tourists. He could easily blend in without being noticed, and maybe that was what he needed. A night without Scarlett, a wild night drinking and dancing might just be enough to stop thinking about her. He hardly beli
