THE CORRECTIONAL CENTER.

Elise

The rain splattered down on the roof, as I sat up on my bed, my head in between my clasped knees. My mind was completely muddled, as the thought that I'd be punished reverberated in my ears over and over again.

At intervals I'd sigh, and look out through the window.

The door opened at that moment, and Lazarus walked in. "Hey, Elise." His voice was down a bit, and that made me sit up.

"You good?" I asked, and for the reason I couldn't fathom, I patted on the space beside me, gesturing for him to sit.

He nodded, and waded over without hesitation. "I'm fine." Lazarus replied, however he kept his eyes glued on me.

It was already nighttime, and everywhere would have been dark in the room, except the illumination from the bedside lamp. My bedside lamp.

"Where are the others?" I finally asked, after a moment's silence. My toes curled up, when his hands brushed mine. I could tell it was a mistake, however I couldn't help but gasp.
