Chapter 3

مؤلف: Ellie C
Snow began falling that evening.

Damon returned to the main house after a pack council meeting, bringing the bitter cold in with him.

He stepped into the hall, swept his gaze across the room, and frowned.

A maid approached him nervously.

“Alpha, Lady Serena moved into the storage room in the north wing today.”

Damon’s expression darkened.

He stormed down the corridor and kicked open the storage-room door.

It slammed against the wall with a deafening crack.

I was sitting on the edge of the bed, watching the snowfall. I turned to face him.

Damon crossed the small room and looked over its bare walls before his attention fixed on the half-empty travel bag beside me.

“What game are you playing now, Serena?” he demanded.

“Ivy only asked for the master bedroom. Who told you to move into a place like this? Are you trying to make me feel guilty?”

I stood and met his stare.

“Your maid said you ordered the servants to give me this room. It makes no difference to me where I sleep.”

My indifference infuriated him.

He seized my wrist hard enough to hurt.

My sleeve slid up, exposing the jagged scar that ran the length of my forearm.

I had gotten it three years ago while shielding him from an attack by a rival pack.

A wolf’s claws had torn my arm open, and I had nearly bled to death.

Damon stared at the scar. There was no tenderness in his eyes, only irritation.

“Do you leave that exposed just to remind me that I owe you?”

“Ivy is sensitive. She saw it today and was so frightened she couldn’t eat lunch.”

“From now on, you’ll wear long sleeves in this house. If you can’t manage that, move into one of the guard cabins at the edge of the territory. I don’t want Ivy seeing you.”

He chose every cruel word to hurt me, waiting for me to defend myself the way I once would have.

He wanted tears. He wanted anger. Most of all, he wanted me to break and beg his forgiveness.

I looked at the fury twisting his face and felt nothing but calm.

I didn’t argue. I didn’t cry.

I pulled my wrist free and picked up my travel bag.

“All right. I’ll move to a guard cabin now.”

I walked past him and headed for the door.

That was what finally shattered his control.

He had expected a fight. Instead, my obedience felt like an insult.

Damon followed me, tore the bag from my hand, and yanked open the front door.

Snow and wind roared into the hall.

He hurled my bag outside and pointed into the storm.

“If you insist on putting on this ridiculous act, then get out of my territory! Don’t ever come back!”

“Let’s see how long a penniless orphan like you survives without me.”

I stood in the doorway in a thin cashmere sweater, with no coat to protect me from the storm.

The wind cut across my face like a blade.

I looked at my bag in the snow, then stepped outside without hesitation.

I walked into the storm and never looked back.

Damon watched from the doorway before slamming it shut behind me.

The sound echoed through the winter night.

I bent to retrieve my bag and brushed away the snow.

My phone lit up.

I answered. My father’s voice came through the speaker.

“Serena, the Silver Moon convoy just crossed into Obsidian territory. Your brother and I will be there in half an hour.”

The storm intensified. Ice-laced wind drove snow against my face.

Cold seeped through the weave of my sweater and sank into my bones. Before long, my legs were numb, each step stiff and painful.

I kept moving. Not once did I glance back at the black doors of the Obsidian main house.

By the time I reached the edge of the territory, twelve black vehicles bearing the Silver Moon crest had lined up across the road.

The rear door of the center vehicle flew open.

My father and brother climbed out and strode toward me through the snow.

The moment my father saw my thin clothes and blue lips, rage flared in his eyes.

He tore off his coat, wrapped it tightly around me, and pulled me into his arms.

“Damon sent you out into a storm dressed like this?” His jaw locked, his voice tight with fury and grief. “I’m sorry, Serena. I should have reached you sooner.”

I leaned against the strength and warmth of his shoulder, surrounded by a sense of safety I had forgotten long ago.

I shook my head.

“You came at exactly the right time. Take me home, Dad.”

My father lifted me into the back seat. My brother climbed in after us and held my frozen hand between both of his.

Warm air filled the car, and feeling slowly began returning to my limbs.

The convoy turned around in the storm and sped toward Silver Moon territory.

The Obsidian council gave Damon one month to leave the territory. The new Alpha could not allow a deposed predecessor to remain within the pack.Ivy appealed to several elders, but none of them would restore her Luna title. In the end, the new Alpha offered the pair an abandoned cabin beyond the western ward.Ivy went pale.“You can barely shift. How are we supposed to survive outside the wards?”Ivy’s voice broke. “My wolf is too weak to live as a rogue.”On the final day, Damon found Ivy’s bags packed by the door and realized she had not included a single thing that belonged to him.“Where are you going?”“The new Alpha has agreed to let me stay.”“You’re my fated mate.”“That doesn’t make this easy for me,” Ivy said through her tears. “But you can’t expect me to lose everything just because you were banished.”“All you ever wanted was the Luna title.”“You gave me everything that belonged to Serena and still expected her to remain at your side. Neither of us got what we wanted.”Ivy

The council gave Damon one day to vacate the Alpha’s rooms.Seven years earlier, when he first entered that study, my hands had still been stained with the blood of the last challenger I defeated for him. Damon had held me tightly and promised that every honor the Obsidian Pack possessed would belong to us both. Now servants carried his robes and personal belongings into a remote room while Beta took control of the study.“Put that back!” Damon shouted when they removed the Alpha’s ceremonial robe.No one stopped.A young servant met his gaze without fear.“That belongs to the Alpha.”From that day forward, Damon could no longer attend military meetings or command a single guard. Wolves who had once bowed at the sight of him now either passed him without acknowledgment or openly mocked his fall.Only then did he remember the day he forced me into a storage room.He had been certain that losing the master bedroom and my title would leave me with nothing. It had never occurred to him tha

The Obsidian elders convened before dawn.Every council member and head of a high-ranking family attended. Most of them were the same wolves I had forced into submission seven years earlier, when they refused to accept Damon as Alpha. When Damon entered the chamber, only Beta rose to greet him.He took the Alpha’s chair, his face dark.“Serena cares about the Obsidian wolves. She won’t let her father attack us.”Elder Marcus gave a cold laugh.“From what I understand, she has already stopped him once. She also gave us a way to avoid this war. You’re the one refusing it.”Another elder spoke up.“Serena has been gone less than ten days, and two sections of our border have already failed. We have also lost a hunting ground. Without her Moon Crown blood, our priests cannot restore the wards.”Damon’s expression turned glacial.“I am the Alpha of this pack.”No one answered.Their silence humiliated him more thoroughly than any argument could have. The doors flew open, and a bloodied guard

When the ceremony ended, Damon remained in the courtyard, watching as my family gathered around me.My mother adjusted the cloak around my shoulders. Something my brother said made me laugh.Damon had seen me smile countless times, but only now did he realize that when I was truly happy, there was no caution in my eyes. This was my home.He shoved past the guards and strode toward me.“Serena.”My brother stepped into his path.“This is Silver Moon territory. Your commands mean nothing here.”Damon released his Alpha aura, but not one Silver Moon warrior bowed.I touched my brother’s arm.“Let him speak.”Hope flashed across Damon’s face.“Are you done with this, Serena? Withdraw the ultimatum and come home.”I nearly laughed.“This is my home, Damon. Where exactly do you think I should go?”His expression stiffened before his voice softened.“I know you’re still angry about Ivy. I shouldn’t have given her the master bedroom or Moonlight. I took back the Luna necklace.”He held the moo

The collapse of the eastern ward was only the beginning.Three days later, a rival pack seized the northern hunting grounds under cover of darkness. The next morning, two children slipped through another failing ward and nearly wandered into rogue territory. The infirmary overflowed with injured wolves, all of them healing far more slowly than before. Why had wards that had stood unbroken for seven years begun failing the moment Serena left? The question spread through the Obsidian Pack.Damon doubled the patrols, ordered the priests to reinforce the wards, and threatened to punish anyone who spoke of the Moon Crown bloodline. None of it stopped the silver glow along the border from fading a little more each day.Since my departure, he had not slept through a single night.Every time he closed his eyes, his wolf searched for me. Whenever his mind brushed the broken link, it found nothing but silence. On the seventh night, Damon woke with my name already on his lips.He tore through the

“Wait.”My father stopped and looked back at me.His Alpha aura still filled the infirmary, holding every guard outside the door rigid and silent.“Don’t send the warriors yet.”His expression changed, frustration flashing across his face.“After everything he did to you, you still want to protect him?”“Not Damon. I don’t want innocent members of the Obsidian Pack dying for his choices.”I had lived among them for seven years. Damon had betrayed me, but the wolves who had fought at my side and entrusted their injured children to my care had not.My brother frowned. “Then what do you want?”I lifted my head.“I want Damon removed as Alpha.”“When he first took power, at least half the high-ranking wolves refused to accept him. Three challengers came for his title in the first year alone.”“My Moon Crown blood strengthened the pack and reinforced its wards. I was the one who brought his would-be usurpers to heel. That is the only reason he has ruled unchallenged for seven years.”Damon
