Chapter 4

مؤلف: Ellie C
Back at the Obsidian main house, the air in the great hall had turned suffocating.

Damon sat on the sofa with a glass of cold wine in his hand.

He tugged irritably at his collar and stared at the antique clock on the wall.

It was already eleven.

Three hours had passed since he had thrown me out.

Ivy approached with a plate of fruit and tried to settle beside him.

“Serena is terribly stubborn,” she murmured. “With all that snow outside, she’s probably hiding nearby, waiting for you to come after her.”

Damon shoved her hand away.

The plate fell. Fruit rolled across the floor.

He rose and crossed to the window, staring into the white night beyond the glass.

In seven years, I had never stayed away from him for more than a day.

No matter how badly we fought or how long he ignored me, I had always appeared at his study the next morning with the medicine for his old wound.

He was certain I would not truly leave. Sooner or later, the cold would become unbearable, and I would return to the front steps in tears, begging him to let me inside.

But three hours passed without a sound from beyond the doors.

A strange mixture of irritation and unease settled over Damon. He instinctively reached for our mind-link, intending to order me back.

There was nothing on the other side but silence.

His wolf stirred restlessly, and a faint pain flickered through his chest.

Damon suppressed it almost at once.

He told himself he simply wasn’t used to the sudden absence of a connection he had carried for seven years.

He spun toward the guards waiting in the corner.

“Open the gates and search outside. See if Serena has frozen to death out there.”

Several guards rushed into the storm.

Ten minutes later, their captain returned covered in snow, his face grim.

“Alpha, there’s no one outside. We searched the entire area around the house. Even Lady Serena’s footprints have been buried.”

The wineglass cracked in Damon’s grip.

His jaw tightened, his eyes turning cold.

“So she’s finally grown a spine. Check the security footage and find out where she went. Freeze every account in her name too. Let’s see how long she lasts without a penny.”

The captain hurried away.

Minutes later, he returned with a tablet held between trembling hands.

“Alpha, the footage shows Lady Serena reaching the edge of the territory and entering a convoy. Every vehicle bore the Silver Moon crest.”

Damon stared at the twelve black vehicles on the screen, his pupils contracting sharply.

Three hours later, the Silver Moon convoy reached the heart of its territory.

My father and brother helped me from the car, keeping me sheltered between them.

My mother was waiting outside the main house with the pack elders and guards.

The moment she saw me, she ran forward and crushed me against her, sobbing.

“My Serena. I finally found you. What did they do to you all these years?”

My father and brother stood beside us with red-rimmed eyes. My father touched my hair with trembling fingers while my brother gripped my hand tightly.

The sight of their worn faces broke the last of my restraint, and tears spilled down my cheeks.

Seven years ago, a rival pack had attacked me near the border. Badly injured and with no memory of who I was, I had wandered into Obsidian territory, where Damon found me and took me in.

I had believed he was the only person I had left in the world.

Only now did I understand that, far away in Silver Moon territory, my family had never stopped searching for me.

On my first day home, my father summoned the pack’s finest healer to examine me.

I removed my outer clothes, revealing the jagged scar from the time I had shielded Damon from an attack and the raw, blistered wound where wolfsbane ash had burned the mark from my neck.

The room fell silent.

My mother covered her mouth as tears flooded her eyes.

My father stared at the wound on my neck. Slowly, his irises flared crimson.

An instant later, the force of his Alpha aura exploded through the room, shattering every glass vial on the table.

“Damon.”

My father forced the name through clenched teeth.

“How dare he do this to my daughter?”

He wheeled toward the guards waiting beyond the door.

“By my authority as Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, we are now at war with the Obsidian Pack.”

The Obsidian council gave Damon one month to leave the territory. The new Alpha could not allow a deposed predecessor to remain within the pack.Ivy appealed to several elders, but none of them would restore her Luna title. In the end, the new Alpha offered the pair an abandoned cabin beyond the western ward.Ivy went pale.“You can barely shift. How are we supposed to survive outside the wards?”Ivy’s voice broke. “My wolf is too weak to live as a rogue.”On the final day, Damon found Ivy’s bags packed by the door and realized she had not included a single thing that belonged to him.“Where are you going?”“The new Alpha has agreed to let me stay.”“You’re my fated mate.”“That doesn’t make this easy for me,” Ivy said through her tears. “But you can’t expect me to lose everything just because you were banished.”“All you ever wanted was the Luna title.”“You gave me everything that belonged to Serena and still expected her to remain at your side. Neither of us got what we wanted.”Ivy

The council gave Damon one day to vacate the Alpha’s rooms.Seven years earlier, when he first entered that study, my hands had still been stained with the blood of the last challenger I defeated for him. Damon had held me tightly and promised that every honor the Obsidian Pack possessed would belong to us both. Now servants carried his robes and personal belongings into a remote room while Beta took control of the study.“Put that back!” Damon shouted when they removed the Alpha’s ceremonial robe.No one stopped.A young servant met his gaze without fear.“That belongs to the Alpha.”From that day forward, Damon could no longer attend military meetings or command a single guard. Wolves who had once bowed at the sight of him now either passed him without acknowledgment or openly mocked his fall.Only then did he remember the day he forced me into a storage room.He had been certain that losing the master bedroom and my title would leave me with nothing. It had never occurred to him tha

The Obsidian elders convened before dawn.Every council member and head of a high-ranking family attended. Most of them were the same wolves I had forced into submission seven years earlier, when they refused to accept Damon as Alpha. When Damon entered the chamber, only Beta rose to greet him.He took the Alpha’s chair, his face dark.“Serena cares about the Obsidian wolves. She won’t let her father attack us.”Elder Marcus gave a cold laugh.“From what I understand, she has already stopped him once. She also gave us a way to avoid this war. You’re the one refusing it.”Another elder spoke up.“Serena has been gone less than ten days, and two sections of our border have already failed. We have also lost a hunting ground. Without her Moon Crown blood, our priests cannot restore the wards.”Damon’s expression turned glacial.“I am the Alpha of this pack.”No one answered.Their silence humiliated him more thoroughly than any argument could have. The doors flew open, and a bloodied guard

When the ceremony ended, Damon remained in the courtyard, watching as my family gathered around me.My mother adjusted the cloak around my shoulders. Something my brother said made me laugh.Damon had seen me smile countless times, but only now did he realize that when I was truly happy, there was no caution in my eyes. This was my home.He shoved past the guards and strode toward me.“Serena.”My brother stepped into his path.“This is Silver Moon territory. Your commands mean nothing here.”Damon released his Alpha aura, but not one Silver Moon warrior bowed.I touched my brother’s arm.“Let him speak.”Hope flashed across Damon’s face.“Are you done with this, Serena? Withdraw the ultimatum and come home.”I nearly laughed.“This is my home, Damon. Where exactly do you think I should go?”His expression stiffened before his voice softened.“I know you’re still angry about Ivy. I shouldn’t have given her the master bedroom or Moonlight. I took back the Luna necklace.”He held the moo

The collapse of the eastern ward was only the beginning.Three days later, a rival pack seized the northern hunting grounds under cover of darkness. The next morning, two children slipped through another failing ward and nearly wandered into rogue territory. The infirmary overflowed with injured wolves, all of them healing far more slowly than before. Why had wards that had stood unbroken for seven years begun failing the moment Serena left? The question spread through the Obsidian Pack.Damon doubled the patrols, ordered the priests to reinforce the wards, and threatened to punish anyone who spoke of the Moon Crown bloodline. None of it stopped the silver glow along the border from fading a little more each day.Since my departure, he had not slept through a single night.Every time he closed his eyes, his wolf searched for me. Whenever his mind brushed the broken link, it found nothing but silence. On the seventh night, Damon woke with my name already on his lips.He tore through the

“Wait.”My father stopped and looked back at me.His Alpha aura still filled the infirmary, holding every guard outside the door rigid and silent.“Don’t send the warriors yet.”His expression changed, frustration flashing across his face.“After everything he did to you, you still want to protect him?”“Not Damon. I don’t want innocent members of the Obsidian Pack dying for his choices.”I had lived among them for seven years. Damon had betrayed me, but the wolves who had fought at my side and entrusted their injured children to my care had not.My brother frowned. “Then what do you want?”I lifted my head.“I want Damon removed as Alpha.”“When he first took power, at least half the high-ranking wolves refused to accept him. Three challengers came for his title in the first year alone.”“My Moon Crown blood strengthened the pack and reinforced its wards. I was the one who brought his would-be usurpers to heel. That is the only reason he has ruled unchallenged for seven years.”Damon
