Can't stay alone

My chest tightened, tears fighting to escape. Alessandro's demeanor had changed, turning more ruthless by the second.

Evelyn's words had pushed him to the brink. She was clearly flaunting about her mate, clearly unbothered by her actions five years ago. Alessandro got no one but me to vent his frustration.

He hadn't been joking when he said he would drag me out if I was pregnant. The coldness in his eyes, the mercilessness in his voice—none of it had been a lie.

Slowly, I shut the door behind me and grabbed the pregnancy kit from the counter. My fingers trembled as I stared at it, my mind spiraling with every possibility.

If I was pregnant, he would force me to get an abortion. If I wasn't... I would be safe. But deep down, I knew that either way, I was already broken. A part of me desperately wished I was pregnant. A child of my own blood and flesh could be the reason to keep going in this lonely world.

But reality was cruel. I decided to check anyway, to find out the truth I was so afraid of facing.

As I waited for the lines to change, the only prayer running through my mind was,

"Moon Goddess, please don't make me pregnant. I don't want to kill my own child."

Yet another thought crept in, bitter and selfish. Maybe if I was pregnant, I would have someone. I wouldn't be alone in the human world, with no one to call family.

But even I knew how selfish that prayer was. I didn't want Alessandro's child, not really. Any child of his would be neglected, despised by their own father and his family. A mere human like me had no right to bear the Alpha's heir.

Besides, Alessandro had his own enemies. Even as the strongest Alpha Wolf, acknowledged by the Moon Goddess as the next Alpha, he defied every prophecy and blessing to stay away from authority. His elder brother was the firstborn, and by tradition, only the firstborn should have possessed the strongest wolf. Alessandro's very existence had strained his relationship with his family beyond repair.

Everyone knew how cold and bitter things were between Alessandro and his parents, Alpha Simmons and Luna Simmons. They blamed him for overshadowing their firstborn's success.

If they found out that Alessandro had gotten a human pregnant, both the child and I would be in grave danger. Alessandro would be the first to eliminate his own weakness. He would never hesitate.

I stared blankly at the pregnancy kit. My breathing hitched, my body trembling, a painful lump lodged itself in my throat.

I was pregnant.

Before the result could truly sink in, a sound echoed from the living room. Panic seized me. I threw the kit into the trash bin and rushed out.

Alessandro was standing by the window, his broad shoulders stiff, his back facing me.

Why is he back? I thought he wouldn't return tonight. This was first night after his beloved woman returning. I thought he would spend his time with her or in his study like he always did whenever her birthday approached, grieving or missing her.

"It's past ten. Aren't you going to sleep?" I asked quietly, almost in a whisper.

Alessandro turned, his eyes meeting mine. They were hollow, void of warmth. For a fleeting moment, I thought I saw something—vulnerability—but it disappeared too quickly.

"I am," he muttered, walking to the bed and lying down on one side, his back facing me.

I froze. He had never stayed after... not like this. I was supposed to remain in his room only until he was finished with me. After that, I would return to my own bed. That was the rule.

Yet tonight, he stayed.

I didn’t dare ask why. Silently, I lay down beside him, pulling the blanket up to shield myself. Protecting myself from his unpredictable rage was the only thing I could do.

The silence between us was suffocating. Alessandro's heavy, uneven breathing filled the room, proof that a storm brewed inside him.

I wanted to reach out, to offer some meaningless comfort. But what could I say to someone who had long stopped believing in kindness?

I closed my eyes, exhausted. The earlier result still haunted me, even though I hadn’t dared to acknowledge it yet. I needed to survive tonight.

"Ms. Scarlet," Alessandro called.

My body jolted. The mattress creaked as he shifted, facing me.

I stiffened. I was too scared to face him. An Alpha's anger could be fatal for someone as powerless as me.

"Ms. Scarlet," he repeated, his voice dangerously calm.

My hands trembled. A shiver crawled up my spine. I swallowed hard and slowly turned to face him.

"Yes, Mr. Simmons," I answered in a small voice.

Our eyes locked. His golden irises had deepened into a dangerous shade of red. In that moment, I felt tiny under his gaze, a fragile doll trapped under a beast’s paw.

I looked away, my throat dry and tight.

Alessandro moved closer, reaching out to grab my chin. His touch wasn't painful, but it was firm enough that it made my heart pound in terror.

"Tomorrow, you must act like a perfect wife. Not a lover. Not an ex-lover. My perfect wife. After that, we will decide when to divorce. Do you understand?"

My eyes widened.

That meant... I could finally be free. No more punishments. No more forced acting. I could endure just a little longer.

"I understand," I whispered, carefully pulling away. Sitting up, I grabbed a shawl and wrapped it tightly around myself. The cold seeped deep into my bones tonight.

"Where are you going?" Alessandro asked. His voice was less cold, but there was a sharp irritation hidden beneath it.

"I need to prepare for tomorrow's celebration," I said, eager to escape the suffocating room.

I opened the door, but before I could leave, Evelyn barged in, almost knocking me over.

"Alessandro!" she cried, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Alessandro rushed to her side in an instant, his entire demeanor changing. Panic and worry filled his expression as he cupped her face gently.

"What happened? Evelyn, are you okay?"

"I'm scared," she sobbed, clutching onto him tightly. "I can't... I can't sleep alone!"

Alessandro froze, stunned by her sudden closeness. The corners of his face reddened slightly.

"You know... I can't sleep alone. Please. You don't even have to share the bed. Just... stay on the couch."

"It's fine," Alessandro said softly, almost too gently. "I'll stay on the couch. Don't worry."

"Really?" Evelyn’s face lit up. Then she glanced at me, her expression twisted with false innocence.

"But what if your wife gets upset? What if she minds?" she asked sweetly.

Alessandro's gaze snapped to me immediately. Regret and resentment clouded his eyes, as if he regretted my very presence here.

"She doesn't mind. She isn't insecure," he said sharply.

I nodded with a mechanical smile, feeling more like a trained puppet than a human being.

Alessandro’s expression softened slightly as he turned back to Evelyn, gently taking her hand.

"Let's go."

But Evelyn pulled her hand away with a playful laugh. She shot me a smug glance before speaking.

"I need some help from your wife. Can you wait for me in my room? Please?"

My stomach dropped. Her eyes and voice were definitely giving me a creep.

Before Alessandro could answer, she leaned forward and pressed her lips against his cheek. Alessandro froze, clearly uncomfortable, though he didn’t pull away fast enough.

"What do you need? I can help," Alessandro said hesitantly, looking between me and her.

"Oh, Alessandro, you're still the same clueless boy from five years ago," she teased in a flirty tone before focusing her gaze on me.

"It's woman stuff. You wouldn't understand," she said mockingly.

Her hand gripped my wrist with fake sweetness, but I hissed quietly when her sharp nails dug into my skin.

Alessandro lingered for a moment, his eyes flickering with doubt, but eventually, he left the room.

But his eyes held that distrust towards me. As if he didn't want to leave his beloved woman with me.

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   A Beast out of Mist

Maybe I had been too cautious. Or maybe too unsure of everything—of them, of this strange place, of the shimmering potion that tasted too sweet to be trusted. The moment it slid down my throat, a cool sensation rippled through me, wrapping around my ribs like chains made of ice. My limbs tensed, and the tips of my fingers tingled with a strange numbness. Then, Alpha Paleframe entered, his heavy boots echoing across the stone floor as he strode toward the statue in the middle of the temple—the Golden Moon glinting in the torchlight above. His eyes locked onto mine. "Come here, Mauve. We will see whether you have a werewolf or not," he said, his voice unwavering—authoritative, as if refusal wasn’t an option. Before I could gather the courage to protest, Marcus and the others appeared behind me. I flinched instinctively, my hand going to my abdomen. My child. My baby. “Don’t worry. Everything will be alright. Just go ahead,” Marcus urged, his tone unusually soft. I shook my head, st

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   A large family

Mauve, Descendant of the Moon Goddess? Me? The words hung in the air like a cruel joke. When Alpha Paleframe introduced himself as my biological father and claimed that I belonged to the bloodline of the Moon Goddess, laughter escaped me—sharp and hollow. Not the kind born of amusement. The kind born from a life spent choking on silence. A joke, after all, should know its limit. I folded my arms, facing him squarely. My voice, when it came, was steady, stripped of any pretenses. “I appreciate your story,” I said. “But I have no use for titles. The Moon Goddess—if she ever existed for me—gave up a long time ago.” My gaze drifted to the window before I sat on the edge of the bed. “You’re kind to bring me here, Alpha Paleframe. But I already had a father, and he ruined everything. I had a mother, and she was a monster.” I didn’t raise my voice. I didn’t cry. The emotion had long bled out of me, leaving behind only calm detachment. The father who bled my dry with his d

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   Don't betray the Pack

I went straight to the Alpha Pack House soon after. The entire Pack was chaotic and desperate to run away. The weak Werewolves to Omegas were disoriented and hysterically shifting into their wolves. They were losing control over their emotions, creating havoc and confusion that put the young pups and the unmated females at serious risk. The tension hung thick in the air like a dense fog of fear and impending doom. When I walked into the hall room, the house felt eerily silent. The contrast between the panic outside and the emptiness inside felt like a split in two different worlds. The servants were randomly running around, bumping into each other, their expressions pale and eyes filled with uncertainty. Some elders were talking in the corner of the hall room in hushed voices, their expressions grim yet terrified. One could tell by just looking at them that something far worse than a rogue attack was hovering over us.As I walked towards Alpha Simmons’s room, one of the elders, Sir Da

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   A dream

Alessandro, " Why bother? Are you scared that I don't look like others? I won't hurt you anyway. So don't need to be scared!" A gentle hand reached my face as I was standing outside the campus with nothing but a bag of popcorn that I barely ate. " Don't hate me for my look, Okay? I will be your friend forever!" She whispered, giggling. I opened my eyes, realizing that I was dreaming again. It was the same dream, dream when I saw a girl. Same age as mine but too different. Sometimes she would appear with torn clothes, appear with full of bruises and some time, beaming with joy. I started having this dream since I was five. And this girl was nothing but a dream with different eyes, with gentle smile. I used to tell Carl and Evelyn about her. Although Evelyn would laugh it off, Carl would say something like destiny which never helped me out. I never met that girl. Obviously it was creation of mine, my imagination. Since I spent most of my childhood alone with nobody.

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   The Actual Family

With a slight chill down my spine and cold sweats, I woke up in a room I couldn't recognize. The scent of lavender in the air was thick enough to twist my stomach and force my body off the bed in panic. There was a needle attached to my hand with an IV drip. Pulling it away from me, I stood in the middle of the room.My hand reached my mouth as I scanned the space, spotting the bathroom in the south corner. With the bathroom door closed behind me, the sound of the main door opening echoed through the room."You should have been a better mother if you didn't want to see her go through it." A voice came. Not the man who claimed to be my brother—someone else.I threw up, feeling everything inside trying to force its way out. I hadn't had proper meals, so it became incredibly difficult.Sitting on the floor, I watched myself collapse with no hope. I was terrified of walking out of the bathroom. Seeing that woman who made my life a living hell. A woman who faked her death to leave me with

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   Unknown Pack

Mauve,It took three days and two nights for us to cross five different packs before arriving at our destination. The man with the same eyes as mine carried me on his back, gathered food and water, and ensured that despite the long journey, my baby remained safe.I was grateful for everything he had done. The sense of having a brother—a guardian—was growing stronger with every passing moment. There was an unfamiliar comfort in his presence, in the way he looked after me.Now, we stood before an old entrance. Two wolf statues stood like guardians, majestic and unmoving, with two golden moons gleaming above the arch.He shifted back to his human form and looked at me with a soft smile.“We're home, Mauve. A lot of people are waiting for you,” he said, gently taking my hand.A lot of people... waiting for me?I was just a mere human—bullied, abandoned by those I once trusted. Unwanted. Invisible. My existence was never acknowledged, yet now, thousands of miles away from everything I knew

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   Seal it

After handling a few tasks in my company and helping others to stay cautious with the ongoing situation, I walked into the house. The Pack's sky was dark. The faint moonlight barely reached the ground, as if the heavens themselves turned their back on us. The air reeked of something uncanny, like someone had sprayed Wolfsbane across the entire territory. A looming disaster hung in the atmosphere—but why?Kyde didn’t seem to care. He was one of the strongest Alphas blessed by the Moon Goddess, yet he had gracefully refused the role of the next Alpha, syncing with the decision I once made without hesitation. As I pushed the door open and stepped inside, something felt off. Different. The house that once carried familiarity no longer welcomed me. I didn’t feel the weight of responsibility. No footsteps hurried toward me. No polite, rehearsed smile. No glass of cold water with a slice of lemon resting on the rim. Just silence. Why would I miss that presence around me? Why would I feel det

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   A plague

Alessandro,"How is she doing?" I asked Alexander when he walked out of the doctor's room.He gave a quiet nod before walking straight to Evelyn's room. He barely acknowledged my presence. Still sulking because I was fast enough to catch her before he could reach. It had been two days. I had been watching her from a distance. Her ankle was twisted. Thankfully, we could stop the pillar from hitting her from behind. But the trauma ran deeper than bones and bruises. She hadn’t said a word since the accident. The doctor said she kept staring at the ceiling with unfocused eyes, lost in a place no one could follow her into.I was emotionally detached from her. Yet, here I was... "Alessandro!" Dad's voice came from behind. He had just returned from the pack house after calming down the elders. "Let's talk outside. Healer Arnold is handling things.""Okay." I followed him quietly. As we went out, he lit a cigarette with a heavy, thoughtful sigh. The fire flickered against his hardened face,

  • Escaping From My Ruthless Husband   A long journey

When I was younger, I used to hate darkness. Each time the dark shrouded the world, the fear of being abused, beaten, starving, and sometimes—watching my father's ruthless wolf hunting those animals like they meant nothing to the world—came crawling in.The more I grew up, the better I realized—not only those innocent pets but even my life didn’t matter.I was different. I had my mother’s eyes, but I wasn’t like her at all. She was a woman who would charm men to earn money. While my father would drink all day long, and at night, he would go to my mom, torture her, and lock me inside a small closet.I was different. My eyes were different, and my hair... they were different too. Different from my mother’s as well. And once I grew up, I knew that all I had was my appearance—different from the people around me. No one had those eyes—silver with a drop of blue in the center. Long bluish-silver hair that I started dyeing when I was six.I was bullied constantly. No CPS, no cops could help,
