"F*ck, you look even more beautiful than that night. Damn, I'm lucky to have you as my date." Michael said, his cheeks turning pink as I walked into the private dining room.

His words would have made my insides giddy and warm, but complements from mad men didn’t move me. And again, he wasn't Lorenzo.

"Thank you." I replied and gave him a simple smile instead.

He pulled out a chair for me, and I sat down.

"You took quite a while to change; you weren't plotting to escape, were you?" He joked as he sat opposite me.

"No, it just took me a few minutes to process that you had bought me exactly the same dress I had worn to the party. I was frozen in shock." I shrugged as I picked up the menu.

"I was robbed of meeting you when you wore the dress that day, so I decided to give myself a second chance. And you look even more ravishing up close." He said as he took my hand and pressed a small kiss on the back.

"Ok." I tried not to cringe and quickly pulled my hand away from him. "So

"I see why you talk a lot about this one. She is..." Silvano trailed off, looking for the right word to describe me as he glared at me. I was torn between rage and blushing like crazy at the moment. Who was Silvano calling 'this one'? I had a f*cking name that I wanted to scream into his head that he never forgot. And Lorenzo talked me to him! My stomach fluttered, and I tried not to smile. Good things I hoped. "Yes, she is. And the two of them are ridiculously overprotective of each other to the extent it's annoying. You can't try to get rid of one without triggering the other. It's like they are joined at the hip." Lorenzo clicked his tongue as he glowered at both of us. "You know if you let us leave, we won't be annoying. We'll be out of your hair, and it will look like we never existed." I smiled sweetly at him, batting my eyes. "Leave? Leave to where?" Silvano asked, furrowing his brows. "Nothing." Clara quickly said, fear flashing on her features, and she mouthed t

#Day 21#"How do I look? My dress isn't too much, right? Is my makeup ok? I think it's too heavy." Clara fretted as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. "I knew I should have done no-makeup makeup. But it would have been too simple—""Ooo, someone is excited for her date with her crush." I teased, wriggling my brows at her."Ha ha, very funny. You know how important today is. I have to look perfect." She glared at me."It's just a date, not the actual wedding. You look gorgeous. A ten. If I were a guy or I was into girls, I would've been smitten by your beauty and definitely asked you out." I grinned and winked at her."You're not my type. You're too crazy. If you asked me out, I would run straight to the heels." She snorted."Says the girl that is in love with a mafia Don. You like crazy too." I retorted."I guess you have a point." She giggled and looked at the mirror. "But I look alright, right? I think I should change the dress—""You look absolutely gorgeous, Clara. Hell,

"Your mom? You're her daughter? So she moved on. That's good." Pablo whispered, and though sadness flickered in his eyes, he was finding it difficult to believe what he said."No, she didn't. My mom always told me that she loved only one man, and that man was my father. She didn't tell me his name, though, but I think... I suspect... I..." I stumbled on my words, trying to find the appropriate one."You think you are my daughter." He stated. His face and voice were suddenly devoid of emotion, and I gulped."I'm not sure. It's just a hunch, but the timelines fall really well, and I—""When you said today is your mother’s remembrance... you... you... Tell me you were joking. Angela isn't dead, and you know where she is?" He whispered; his voice was still cold, but tears glinted in his eyes."I'm sorry. My mom... your Angela died seven years ago." I whispered as my own eyes watered. He stared at me for a few seconds; neither of us said anything, and the air was thick with choking tension

"Then why so gloomy? Isn't that a good thing?" I said, and Pablo let out a long sigh. "It's not as simple as it seems. Can you keep a very important secret?" He asked. "Are you sure you want to tell me? I literally am a girl you met at a club, and as you said, it's a very important secret." I replied. "I know I can trust you. Besides, if you tell anyone, I'll kill you." He joked, forcing a smile that fell instantly to a grim frown. "No, I can't do that. I don't think I'll ever be able to kill you. You look too much like her. In fact, that's why I'm here: to spend her birthday with you." My lips pressed into a thin line. Who was this 'her', and why did he insist I looked so much like her? "It's pathetic, isn't it? I'm a married man with grown-up children, and I'm still hung up on my first love, like a damn loser. But, damn, I f*cking loved her more than I can love any other woman. It's been twenty-three years, and I still f*cking miss her like she died yesterday." Pablo lamen

"I'm here! Sorry I'm late. Prof. Jerry wanted to see me after class." Clara said as she ran towards me holding a bouquet of carnations, and she handed them to me. "Thank you, and it's alright. We're almost done here." I replied as I placed it beside the other ones. "We? Don't tell me you invited another person. I thought it was a us thing." She pouted as she eyed Lorenzo's bouquet of flowers. "Well, it would have been if you hadn't told, Lorenzo, you traitor." I nudged her side, and she cringed. "Sorry. I know I shouldn't have, but he didn't give me any choice. I didn't even know how he managed to twist the words out of my mouth." I sighed. "It's alright. Lorenzo can be a sneaky b*tch but I can't be mad at him since he has been a great help and company today." I replied. "Great help? As in metaphorically and figuratively?" She frowned, and I smiled, knowing she didn't want to believe what she was thinking. "I mean literally." I giggled and nudged at Lorenzo, who was stan

Lorenzo wrapped his arm around me, pulling me into a hug. "She died, Lorenzo. On her f*cking birthday. I don't know what happened. One moment we were preparing to leave the hospital; the next, she had gone into cardiac arrest. The doctors that had been telling me she was recovering perfectly suddenly noticed there had been a problem with her heart that couldn't be diagnosed until it was fatal. How the f*ck did they not f*cking diagnose that when she was in the sh*tty hospital for weeks!" I cried as I clung to him. "A few hours after the cardiac arrest, she died. She f*cking died, just like that. All because of a stupid drunken driver that was still permitted bail though he had murdered my mom! It wasn't f*cking fair! If it weren't for him, she would have still been alive. There was so much she wanted to do, but her life was f*cking cut short." Lorenzo held me tighter, stroking my hair and muttering comforting words in my ear as I sobbed into his chest. A few minutes later, my cr
