I let out a deep breath, steeling my nerves, and lifted my head.

"Michael," I said.

"Yes," he replied.

"Do you think my coming here is straining Pablo and Beatrice's relationship? They've constantly been arguing since I came here. I mean, I understand why she's angry with me. I don't think I'll be all smiles and giggles if my husband brings his ex-girlfriend's daughter into my house. I might not like Beatrice, but I don't want her happy marriage to suffer because of me."
