Chapter 1

In my past life, when my father bought the twin guards, my stepsister tossed the nearly blind Slade to me.

I prepared his remedies myself and even deliberately slowed my pace when walking. I matched his steps for five long years. But on the day of the attack, he flawlessly protected my stepsister in the heavy smoke.

Lying in a pool of my own blood, I finally understood. His blindness was never a disease. He simply didn't want to look at me.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day we chose our guards. This time, I'd give him exactly what he wanted.

"Maybe I'll take Slade. Diana's wolf is dormant, so Corbin's size will protect her better."

Cecilia's voice stabbed into my ears like a needle.

I snapped my head up.

The lights in the main hall were blinding. I saw the long carpet, the pack crest, and my father's ebony cane.

Two boys stood side by side at the end of the carpet, still reeking of blood and rust from the fighting ring.

Everything was exactly the same as it was five years ago.

Before I could even refuse, she plastered on a fake smile and turned to Corbin. "Corbin, I'm entrusting Diana to you. You must keep her safe."

My fingers grew cold, but anger burned in my chest.

In my past life, her false kindness fooled me completely.

She chose the healthy brother first, then acted like she was doing me a favor. She knew my flaw too well. I never accepted other people's charity.

If I refused, she'd get the better guard and a good reputation.

The whole pack would say Cecilia was kind-hearted, while her useless sister was just being ungrateful.

Back then, I was actually stupid enough to think she really cared about our sisterhood.

This time, I didn't say no like I did before. Instead, I cut right through her act. "Sure, I accept."

Cecilia froze. Her smile remained, but her eyes widened for a split second. She hadn't expected me to accept.

I met her gaze and flashed a cold smile.

In my past life, I let her manipulate me however she wanted. Not this time.

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught the brief shock on Slade's face.

My father, Alpha Richard, spoke up, his expression darkening.

"That's ridiculous. Absolutely not. Cecilia, you're the future of our pack. There's no room for error when it comes to your safety. That blind boy can barely see. How is he supposed to protect you?"

I turned to him, swallowing the bitterness rising in my throat.

In his eyes, I, the rightful Alpha heir, couldn't even compare to a bastard from nowhere.

Back then, he married my mother to save the pack's failing finances. The healer network she brought in saved the entire Lockwood pack.

But in the end, she found out he already had a child out of wedlock.

Heartbroken, my mother fell ill and passed away a year later.

Less than a month after her death, my father moved Cecilia and her mother into the packhouse, forcing me to call her my older sister.

I still held onto a tiny bit of hope for him, thinking he bought these twins to make up for my dormant wolf.

But he knew perfectly well that Slade was half-blind, yet he still brought him here, making this choice a complete joke. From the beginning, he only ever intended for Cecilia to have the strongest guard.

Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief, grabbing his arm as she softened her voice. "Then what about Diana?"

Father didn't even look at me. He gave a nod to the men behind him.

His elite personal guard, Garrick, understood and stepped forward.

I knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted to teach the blind boy a lesson so Cecilia would give up on him, leaving me grateful for the scraps. It was his usual trick.

The faint scrape of a drawn dagger echoed. Garrick lunged from Slade's back left, launching a surprise attack from his blind spot.

Slade remained completely calm. He tilted his head just a tiny bit, dodging it perfectly before backhanding Garrick's wrist and twisting it outward.

A sharp crack of breaking bone echoed. Garrick screamed and dropped to his knees, his dagger clattering onto the carpet.

Slade let go and stood tall. His cloudy gray eyes lacked focus, yet they stared steadily toward the Alpha's seat.

"My eyes might be useless," he said. "But my claws and teeth are not."

He paused.

"I'll protect Lady Cecilia with my life."

[Bonus Chapter: Slade's Perspective]The wind and snow in the north cut like knives.Corbin and I were now packless Rogues. We hid in an abandoned logging cabin. The firewood in the stove crackled, but my body couldn't feel a single trace of warmth.Ever since we were kicked out of the medical group's building that day, my world had completely fallen apart. The pain of the broken mate bond ate at my bones like poison every single day. My eyes, ruined by the arena's toxins, were not only blurry now but also stung like needles every midnight. But this physical pain wasn't even a fraction of the agony in my heart. In my past life, I actually always resisted her approach. I was a broken monster who crawled out of the underground fighting ring. My stupid pride made me hate anyone's pity.Every time she brought me a bowl of medicine, and every time she deliberately slowed her pace in the dim hallway just to match my steps, I saw it as a constant reminder that I was a useless cripple.I was d

"Give me one more chance."He dropped to his knees three feet behind me, his hands braced on the floor. His palms were scraped and bleeding onto the expensive carpet, but he didn't even flinch."You don't have to accept me. You don't ever have to claim me as your Mate. Just let me stay. Let me guard you.""I'll give this life to you."A cold silver gun barrel pressed firmly against his temple.Kirk stepped out of the shadows, pulling back the hammer of the silver-loaded pistol resting against Slade's skull."This isn't the Lockwood packhouse," Kirk warned. "And this isn't the ring. Twitch a muscle, and this silver bullet won't care whose Mate you are."Slade froze entirely. His bleeding, ruined eyes stared at my back, the last flicker of hope dying out completely.Corbin gritted his teeth and hauled his exhausted brother up from the floor. "Let's go."After they were gone, my assistant hurried over. "Alpha, the tech team verified the drive. The files are real. It's enough to let Richar

Seeing I meant it, Kirk immediately bumped the party's security to maximum. Two nights later at the corporate party, the grand double doors were violently shoved open."Diana!" Slade's voice was rough, completely raw. "We've been searching everywhere!"I slowly turned around. Slade stood in the archway, trembling slightly. Corbin was half a step behind him, gripping his brother's elbow to keep him upright.I gave them a flat stare. "Can I help you?"Slade was deathly pale. The moment he took a step forward, half a dozen elite security wolves stepped in front of me, forming a solid wall of muscle and drawn weapons."I ruined everything." Slade's voice shook with desperate pleading. "I remember our past life. I felt the mate bond. I was the truly blind one before! I never knew Cecilia was playing us the whole time!"I arched an eyebrow and scoffed."Past life?""I only remember a man pretending to be blind for five years. I mixed his medicine, treated his eyes, and counted the stairs out

"Years ago, Diana barely survived those feral rogues just to drag you to safety. You called it a tragic accident," Slade pressed forward, step by step."But I dug into the pack logs. You always wore a custom perfume laced with scents that drive wolves feral. You planned that attack to ruin her first shift."Cecilia was shaking violently, covering her mouth, unable to speak."Enough!" Richard roared. "One more word of this treason, and I'll kill you right here!""Try it." Slade didn't flinch, a mocking smirk curling his lips."We know exactly what you did. You used us as meat shields to absorb your rival's hits. And now that Diana's gone and your accounts are bleeding dry, you need us as muscle to steal her mother's medical network."Exposed, Richard's face twisted into an ugly sneer. He raised his cane to strike, but Corbin caught the heavy wood mid-air."I wouldn't do that," Corbin warned softly. "The paper trail we have is enough to bring down the Alpha King's Royal Enforcers. You wa

Slade ripped the envelope open.Inside were faded birth certificates, two autopsy reports, and a stack of wire transfers."We were never orphans. Richard's rival pack butchered our parents. He bought us from the ring just to use us as human meat shields and pawns."Slade's thumb traced the birth certificates."He knew who we were the whole time." Corbin gritted his teeth. "That ambush wasn't an accident. Richard sold our route to a rival pack.""He wanted them to wipe us out, then stage a kidnapping to force Diana into giving up her mother's assets! But the old bastard miscalculated. He didn't think those lunatics would bring explosives and actually blow up his golden goose."A loud ringing filled Slade's ears. He'd always believed his drive to protect Cecilia was just his warrior instinct. He never realized that since the day they left the ring, they were nothing but disposable pawns."And Diana?" Slade choked out, swallowing hard.Corbin pulled out a stack of blurry surveillance phot

A high-ranking guard named Aaron was waiting at the helipad. "Wallace briefed us, Alpha," he bowed slightly. "I'll be your personal escort. Your mother's lawyer, Kirk, is waiting in the boardroom."I nodded, ignoring the exhaustion. "Let's go."On the drive in, I rested my eyes in the back of the town car.My new secure phone vibrated. Kirk had sent over a detailed file.I now held full control over a global medical network, elite pack hospitals, and cutting-edge drug labs. It was ten times larger than I'd imagined. My mother had never relied on the Lockwood name. She'd used them as a cover to build a massive empire.Richard didn't just murder her for pack control. He wanted this hidden fortune. The Lockwood pack had only survived because she allowed it.Kirk greeted me in the executive office. He handed me a thick folder."Diana, this is the master transfer agreement. Her orders were absolute: the moment you came of age or fled the pack, full control would instantly be yours."I flip
