Chapter 3

مؤلف: Shirley
Father frowned. "Diana, do you mean that?"

"Yes," I said. "I don't want either of them."

The hall fell silent.

Corbin looked at me in confusion, while Slade's cloudy eyes shifted in my direction, his jaw clenching.

A weakling actually daring to be picky. That was probably what he was thinking.

"Then who will keep you safe?" Father asked, playing the part of a caring parent.

"I want to join the pack's healing ward," I said. "There are healers and guards working there. I won't die."

I knew he wouldn't refuse me.

Shoving me into the medical wing meant throwing me into a pile of herbal remedies and hospital beds, far away from pack affairs and my right to rule. It was a great deal for him.

In my past life, I wasted all my time on Slade.

Taking care of that blind man meant I completely abandoned everything my mother left me. It was why I ended up trapped in the packhouse, with no way out.

This time, I was going to take back what was owed to me.

Starting right where my mother left off.

I started from the very bottom. During the day, I shadowed the senior healers, learning to identify herbs, treat deep cuts, and inject sedatives into wolves who lost control while shifting.

At night, I pored over the boxes of notes my mother left behind, copying them line by line.

My wolf might have been asleep, but the healing talent I inherited from my mother was stronger than ever.

A month later, disaster struck the training grounds.

Over a dozen young warriors used a new pain-relief ointment and started shaking violently, their wounds turning black.

The healers panicked, calling it an infection.

I pushed through the crowd, grabbed the jar of salve, and took a sniff.

"It's not an infection," I said. "There are traces of wolfsbane in here. Just a trace amount, but enough to rot the wounds. Swap the batch, stop using it immediately, and flush their systems with activated charcoal and saline."

No one believed me until the lab results came back three hours later, confirming I was right.

After that day, the senior healers started calling me 'Healer Diana' instead of 'the heir who can't shift.'

For the first time, my name was spoken more often than Cecilia's. Naturally, she couldn't stand it.

She snuck into my treatment room and swapped the ointment I'd prepared for a severely injured wolf, hoping to trigger a deadly mistake.

But she was stupid. She forgot that even with a dormant wolf, I was still an Alpha by blood.

I ran the ointment through the lab, tested it, and slammed the report on the Head Healer's desk. The distinct scent was exactly like the perfume in Cecilia's cabinet.

When questioned, she burst into fake tears on the spot, claiming someone framed her.

Father played along and swept it under the rug. That evening, Cecilia cornered me in the medical hall.

"You're in the spotlight now, sister." She smiled sweetly, though her eyes shot daggers at me. "Father says you're making quick progress."

I ignored her, but she stepped into my path.

"But the medical ward is exhausting. With your condition, you'll pass out if you stand too long. Why don't I ask Father to transfer you somewhere easier?"

"No need."

"I'm not trying to be mean." Her pitch rose slightly.

"Your little achievements are pure luck. If you mess up, the entire Lockwood pack looks bad. Besides, think about it. An Alpha who can't shift. Who would ever dare marry into our pack?"

"You know exactly why I can't shift, don't you?"

I stopped and stared her down. "I know exactly who lured those rogues and what your real intentions were. Do you honestly think I'm blind?"

Her face went white as her dirtiest secret was exposed, and the tears started falling. "I didn't mean to. I was just so scared back then."

The twins instantly moved, shielding her with their bodies like two fierce guard dogs.

Tracking my voice, Slade stepped forward, anger radiating from him. "You've gone too far, Lady Diana."

"Apologize to Lady Cecilia."

I sneered. I wasn't going to put up with his attitude for a second.

I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face.

[Bonus Chapter: Slade's Perspective]The wind and snow in the north cut like knives.Corbin and I were now packless Rogues. We hid in an abandoned logging cabin. The firewood in the stove crackled, but my body couldn't feel a single trace of warmth.Ever since we were kicked out of the medical group's building that day, my world had completely fallen apart. The pain of the broken mate bond ate at my bones like poison every single day. My eyes, ruined by the arena's toxins, were not only blurry now but also stung like needles every midnight. But this physical pain wasn't even a fraction of the agony in my heart. In my past life, I actually always resisted her approach. I was a broken monster who crawled out of the underground fighting ring. My stupid pride made me hate anyone's pity.Every time she brought me a bowl of medicine, and every time she deliberately slowed her pace in the dim hallway just to match my steps, I saw it as a constant reminder that I was a useless cripple.I was d

"Give me one more chance."He dropped to his knees three feet behind me, his hands braced on the floor. His palms were scraped and bleeding onto the expensive carpet, but he didn't even flinch."You don't have to accept me. You don't ever have to claim me as your Mate. Just let me stay. Let me guard you.""I'll give this life to you."A cold silver gun barrel pressed firmly against his temple.Kirk stepped out of the shadows, pulling back the hammer of the silver-loaded pistol resting against Slade's skull."This isn't the Lockwood packhouse," Kirk warned. "And this isn't the ring. Twitch a muscle, and this silver bullet won't care whose Mate you are."Slade froze entirely. His bleeding, ruined eyes stared at my back, the last flicker of hope dying out completely.Corbin gritted his teeth and hauled his exhausted brother up from the floor. "Let's go."After they were gone, my assistant hurried over. "Alpha, the tech team verified the drive. The files are real. It's enough to let Richar

Seeing I meant it, Kirk immediately bumped the party's security to maximum. Two nights later at the corporate party, the grand double doors were violently shoved open."Diana!" Slade's voice was rough, completely raw. "We've been searching everywhere!"I slowly turned around. Slade stood in the archway, trembling slightly. Corbin was half a step behind him, gripping his brother's elbow to keep him upright.I gave them a flat stare. "Can I help you?"Slade was deathly pale. The moment he took a step forward, half a dozen elite security wolves stepped in front of me, forming a solid wall of muscle and drawn weapons."I ruined everything." Slade's voice shook with desperate pleading. "I remember our past life. I felt the mate bond. I was the truly blind one before! I never knew Cecilia was playing us the whole time!"I arched an eyebrow and scoffed."Past life?""I only remember a man pretending to be blind for five years. I mixed his medicine, treated his eyes, and counted the stairs out

"Years ago, Diana barely survived those feral rogues just to drag you to safety. You called it a tragic accident," Slade pressed forward, step by step."But I dug into the pack logs. You always wore a custom perfume laced with scents that drive wolves feral. You planned that attack to ruin her first shift."Cecilia was shaking violently, covering her mouth, unable to speak."Enough!" Richard roared. "One more word of this treason, and I'll kill you right here!""Try it." Slade didn't flinch, a mocking smirk curling his lips."We know exactly what you did. You used us as meat shields to absorb your rival's hits. And now that Diana's gone and your accounts are bleeding dry, you need us as muscle to steal her mother's medical network."Exposed, Richard's face twisted into an ugly sneer. He raised his cane to strike, but Corbin caught the heavy wood mid-air."I wouldn't do that," Corbin warned softly. "The paper trail we have is enough to bring down the Alpha King's Royal Enforcers. You wa

Slade ripped the envelope open.Inside were faded birth certificates, two autopsy reports, and a stack of wire transfers."We were never orphans. Richard's rival pack butchered our parents. He bought us from the ring just to use us as human meat shields and pawns."Slade's thumb traced the birth certificates."He knew who we were the whole time." Corbin gritted his teeth. "That ambush wasn't an accident. Richard sold our route to a rival pack.""He wanted them to wipe us out, then stage a kidnapping to force Diana into giving up her mother's assets! But the old bastard miscalculated. He didn't think those lunatics would bring explosives and actually blow up his golden goose."A loud ringing filled Slade's ears. He'd always believed his drive to protect Cecilia was just his warrior instinct. He never realized that since the day they left the ring, they were nothing but disposable pawns."And Diana?" Slade choked out, swallowing hard.Corbin pulled out a stack of blurry surveillance phot

A high-ranking guard named Aaron was waiting at the helipad. "Wallace briefed us, Alpha," he bowed slightly. "I'll be your personal escort. Your mother's lawyer, Kirk, is waiting in the boardroom."I nodded, ignoring the exhaustion. "Let's go."On the drive in, I rested my eyes in the back of the town car.My new secure phone vibrated. Kirk had sent over a detailed file.I now held full control over a global medical network, elite pack hospitals, and cutting-edge drug labs. It was ten times larger than I'd imagined. My mother had never relied on the Lockwood name. She'd used them as a cover to build a massive empire.Richard didn't just murder her for pack control. He wanted this hidden fortune. The Lockwood pack had only survived because she allowed it.Kirk greeted me in the executive office. He handed me a thick folder."Diana, this is the master transfer agreement. Her orders were absolute: the moment you came of age or fled the pack, full control would instantly be yours."I flip
